Women's DIII 2010-2011 Fan Opinion Poll

Re: Women's DIII 2010-2011 Fan Opinion Poll

Here's mine. Remember I'll be compiling the poll tomorrow so get yours in.

1. Amherst
2. Plattsburgh
3. RIT
4. Norwich
5. Elmira
6. Gustavus
7. Manhattanville
8. Middlebury
9. River Falls
10. Trinity

I based it off of the preseason poll...not many changes. I didn't really see any significant results to change it anymore than this, although I figure it will change quite a bit in the next couple weeks.

If you don't think Middlebury is a top 10 caliber team in the country, I'd love to know what you're smoking!

I thought it was interesting that RIT was so close to Amherst with only 1 1st place vote.

Next poll will be accepted from 11/8 - 11/11

I think RIT deserves a lot of credit for their win against the much-hyped Norwich squad. Until Amherst plays a game, however, I'm not sure how one would dislodge the defending national champion. The RIT-Amherst double-header will be real interesting later this month...

I would expect Norwich and Plattsburgh to win all of their games leading up to their 12/3 matchup against each other, so that tilt should go a long way toward determining their rankings relative to each other.

If anything, I think that's one of the major problems with D-III women's hockey these days. The top teams are so good that they pretty much only lose to each other, and if any of them happens to drop a game to a non-top team, they immediately exit from the post-season picture.

There are only 2 Pool C bids. Take care of business and win your conference tournament and there is nothing to whine about. When it comes down to the wire and you are picking 2 teams out of the 44 non-auto bid teams how can you not hold losses to weak teams against someone's selection?

Well of course you should hold that against them. The problem is that winning the conference tournament is easier said than done for some teams, while other teams have an easier road. The way to balance that out is to provide at-large bids, and there just aren't enough of those.

That's how the DIII rules work. There are 7 slots and 5 Pool A (or AQ bids), The 7 comes from the DIII rule that slots in the post season are based on 1:6.5 ratio. You want more Pool C bids get more schools to add the sport (and join an existing league).

I don't think we're questioning the rule here. I think we're questioning how there's almost a guarantee that one good team from at least three conferences in the country have no chance at an at-large bid (ECACW, NESCAC, NCHA anyone?)

Yeah, I knew all that. But I don't see how it addresses my point.

I don't know whose idea it was but I kinda like the idea of not ranking teams who haven't played yet. So I'm gonna do that this week.

1. Plattsburgh
2. RIT
3. Gustavus
4. Norwich
5. Lake Forrest
6. River Falls
7. Elmira
8. Manhattanville
9. Stevens Point
10. Neumann

Re: Women's DIII 2010-2011 Fan Opinion Poll

Based only on teams which have played. I know a lot of big names are missing and they will be included as soon as they start playing
Here's this weeks poll with a twist

1. Norwich (3-1, 2 w's against tougher opponents, respect for how they did last year)
2. UWSP (4-0, 2 W's over a top MIAC team from last year)
3. RIT (4-0 1W over tough opponent (Norwich) )
4. M'Ville (2-0 maybe a tough opponent win against St Anselm)
5. Lake Forest (4-0 has not faced a tough opponent yet)
6. Utica (3-0 without a tough opponent yet)
7. Platty (only 1 game in and not a tough opponent, will soon be near the top})
8. Concordia mn (4-1, one "tough" opponent in UWS:)
9. GAC (2-0, 0 tough opponents yet)
10. Elmira (2-1-1 Lost to Norwich beat and tied Oswego a sub.500 team last year)

Just curious how RIT isn't #1 in your poll when they are undefeated AND beat Norwich (the team you put #1)
