Women's DI Rankings/Polls 2012-2013

Re: Women's DI Rankings/Polls 2012-2013

Badgers back in?

Possibly, but the question becomes which currently ranked team is going to fall out of the Top 10 to make room? Other than Cornell, which will likely stay in the Top 5, the only team that stumbled somewhat is #8 OSU. And then you have to ask, how much credit do you give the Badgers for their two wins on home ice over St. Cloud, a team that was also swept in their previous three series in the league.

Yeah...don't know Wisconsin will get much cred for a sweep of the Huskies. Don't know what the loss at Princeton will cost the Buckeyes...but that's not a good result for them. If the Buckeyes don't sweep the Mavs...ummm.

Let's just hope the Gophers squash any optimism they might be experiencing in Madison.

I don't see how Wisconsin managed to leap-frogged OSU this week. Three of the 4 Badgers losses and both of their ties were to teams in the bottom half of the current WCHA standings. Two of Ohio State's five losses were to Minnesota, one to North Dakota, one to Wisconsin, and the only bad one was to Princeton this past weekend. That's more on-par with #8 North Dakota, who was also swept by the Gophers and lost one each to Minnesota State and Clarkson.

I know, I know, I'm trying to use logic to figure out an illogical process. Shame on me.

I can only speculate the human factor...where perhaps pollsters have a gut feeling that Wisconsin has progressed / evolved into a better team than Ohio State in recent weeks. Buckeyes need a pretty convincing sweep vs. Minnesota State...and Minnesota needs to dash potential optimism of Badgers per getting back in the conference race, all to possibly alter those theoretical gut feelings.

Whoops. Now Minnesota is missing from the RPI rankings. They're in the Pairwise, though, which shows them as having the best RPI.

That is what happens when you approach infinity :D (Re: Rutter discussion)

Out of Sight...Out of Mind :)

Re: Women's DI Rankings/Polls 2012-2013

Predictions for changes in the polls? #2 Clarkson beats #3 Cornell in a close 2-1 battle but then loses 2-1 to way unranked last place in the ECAC, Colgate. Does Clarkson stay at #2? This is the same Colgate that Cornell beat 9-2 and 9-0 just 2 short weeks ago. Does Mercyhurst move up after 2 drubbings of Penn State? Harvard at #5 whoops Dartmouth.

What say you???

Re: Women's DI Rankings/Polls 2012-2013

Minnesota now shows an RPI of .0000*. I'd hate to think of what it would be if the games that lower the rating weren't removed from the calculations.

Yet another appearance of an obvious error indicates to me that there are serious problems in the programming at USCHO. This looks to me like a problem bigger than can be fixed by one guy looking at the results and tweaking the input tables to get the right results. This looks to me like time to open the hood and dig down into the code to try to find the real problem.

Just sayin'.

Clarkson can't stay at #2. It was close for them being there in the first place. I'd look to Harvard, with convincing wins this week over Northeastern and Dartmouth. BC is thumping people, so they'll move up I'm sure. BU had trouble with PC, but did manage to win. The Lakers haven't played anyone that's a factor in so long that it is hard to get feel for just where they are.

Definitely Minnesota should drop, because any team with a 0 RPI can't be #1. BTW, Ed Trefzger is aware of the problem and will look at it when his schedule permits. In the meantime, use the value from PWR or the one from LakersFan's page, although it's not like any of us stay up late at night thinking, "Mmm ... I wonder what Minnesota's RPI value is?"

Re: Women's DI Rankings/Polls 2012-2013

I'm wrong; Clarkson does remain at No. 2.

Re: Women's DI Rankings/Polls 2012-2013

Wisconsin gets swept and moves up a spot. That's unusual. It's also deserved. That was easily the best team Minnesota has played yet this year.

Re: Women's DI Rankings/Polls 2012-2013

Kind of an odd week. BC destroys Maine and hasn't lost since October, but moves down. Clarkson loses at home to Colgate, and stays at #2 with three losses. Seems to be a big pack of teams between 2 and 7 that are hard to evaluate.

Looks like the win over Cornell played a bigger factor.
Only two teams below Clarkson have less than 3 losses, #4 MC and # 5 Harvard, and you can easily make the argument that Clarkson played a much tougher set of opponents to date.

Yup. Any given day anyone can win (Except when you play team Inifinity :D)

Who votes for this??? Do they even watch womens hockey? Wisco is swept gains ZERO points and MOVES UP a spot???? Clarkson lost to Colgate... colgate.. Ohio gets 5 out of 6 points from a hot Maverick Goalie and drops out of the top 10?

Almost exclusively coaches, so they probably follow the game a little closer than we do. By the simple math of results you are right, OSU should be ahead of UW, but the Buckeyes were already out of the top 10 last week after losing to Princeton. Maybe they had a hot goalie, too, I don't know. Part of the logic may be that Wisconsin looked very impressive in losing yesterday. Obviously, that convinced some voters to give UW some slack going into next weekend's showdown with UND.
