Women's DI Rankings/Polls 2012-2013

Re: Women's DI Rankings/Polls 2012-2013

Thank you Arm for taking the time to try to explain to me... I guess I figured last week they'd drop and didn't so much. I figured it was kinda a look at just the week in which they are voting I see how a tie to an unranked team can still be damaging in the rankings, reguardless points taken. It does seem some teams are given the benefit of the doubt however. With that said I can't argue too much at our spot as my Buckeyes are struggling abit scoring wise. Hopefully they can right the ship and get back in it! However In the WCHA it feels like you're always IN it! ha No points seem to come easily.

Re: Women's DI Rankings/Polls 2012-2013

Mercyhurst appears to have suffered the most damage this weekend, while Harvard moved up a notch by virtue of a win and tie to unranked teams. BU was similarly rewarded after two ties on the road.

The USCHO KRACH report has had to switch to scientific notation for the Gophers.

Re: Women's DI Rankings/Polls 2012-2013

I have a feeling the WCHA will win the last game of the year though :)

I have a feeling UMinn will win the last game of the year too. However, I'm not sure why that is relevant to the position of the other WCHA teams in the polls...

They like to bask in our glory.
We know this because there have been years in the not too distant past where the continuation of the WCHA streak was about all we had to hang our hat on. :o

I think you could make a pretty good argument that Minny's dominance is relevant to the position of the other WCHA teams. Where would UW, UDN, and UMD or for that matter OSU be if they didn't have 4 losses to Minny right now. That is part of the challenge every year for the WCHA. By playing each team 4 times in a season the teams that fall short get beat up in the polls. I think the many people listakenly think Wisco and UND are a lot weaker than they really are right now because their records show 4 losses to Minny.

I have been thinking the same thing. Time will tell, but I wonder if Wisc, UND, UMN and Ohio state are being under valued in the polls because of Minnesota.

Re: Women's DI Rankings/Polls 2012-2013

There's an interesting KRACH vs. Rutter scenario developing. KRACH clearly puts more weight into the WCHA's relatively lackluster performance against non-Lindenwood non-conference opponents. North Dakota split with Clarkson; UMD split with both BC and BU; Wisconsin and Minnesota didn't play a non-conference series against any current TUCs (though SLU's disappointing season has something to do with that); Ohio State dropping a game to Princeton may be hurting everyone in terms of SoS.

Rutter, on the other hand has UND, UMD and Wisconsin all in the top 8, ahead of Clarkson and Mercyhurst. RPI, PWR and the polls all seem to agree with KRACH. Unfortunately there won't be any way to determine which of them is really correct since the only non-conference games left are probably Frozen Four games. So we'll be left to argue about it all summer.
