Re: Women's D1 Rankings/Polls 2011-2012

I just spit out my drink seeing people put BU at #2. What??

TTT...That is where they ended up last year, and not a surprise. Just remember this. Pre-season has yet to start. It's EARLY, REAL EARLY. :D

Would anyone shuffle, or tweak these based on a few outcomes since this polls release?

I think so;
BU should slide down a bit and UND should move up some. Hurst and Qpac are probably in the right spots. I hate to see Cornell jump into the number 2 spot though because their schedule is so weak that they are more likely than UW or Minny to go undefeated. This will be an interesing weekend for the polls though. Here is my opinion on the poll;

1. Badgers
2. Gophers
3. BU
4. Cornell
5. UND
6. UMD
7. BC
8. Hurst
9. Qpac
10. a cast of thousands

Re: Women's D1 Rankings/Polls 2011-2012

I know it is early, but you still have to wonder how the RPI can possibly place the Badgers at #33, UND at 22nd, and Lindenwood at 26th. Did someone forget to tell the computer that those are the two teams they beat.

I'd ignore the USCHO RPI at this point, because something obviously isn't set up right. Note that they have UW listed as #2 in strength of schedule, and given their opponents are a combined 1-9, that seems rather suspect. RPI is largely meaningless at this point, but I'd use Rutter's instead if you want to peruse the numbers for some reason.

Re: Women's D1 Rankings/Polls 2011-2012

I agree, I am ignoring it. I just thought it was interesting that any attempt at ranking teams would ever be this out of wack. Uw beats LW 24-0 over 2 games and is ranked below then. Come on now!

I think that Harvard is being undervalued. Not sure why their 5-1 is judged as inferior to Mercyhurst's 8-2, given that's come against some fairly weak opposition. The Lakers had a nice weekend against PC, but the Friars were struggling against everyone at the time.

Harvard has a similarly light schedule to date with a loss to its only quality opponent. Frankly I am more surprised that a team like Ohio State didn't get any "other votes" recognition. They have 4 losses, but to UW and UND and they played UW fairly close. BSU has had some big wins, but they have also stumbled against teams they should beat if those big wins are really representative of their ability. In any case you should wait for Harvard to beat someone at least close to the top 10 before trying to argue they deserve more love. At least in my opinion

Harvard is 2-0 against Clarkson, whom the computers like more than anyone that Mercyhurst has played. The OSU and BSU question is an interesting one. My guess is that the whooping that UND put on the Buckeyes is hurting them with the voters. UMD is the WCHA team that is being overvalued, but I'm sure they have a lot of street credibility based on seasons gone by.
