Wisconsin Women's Hockey 2026-27

The misisng D were a huge factor.
Their best overall player was not out due to injury but Kelly being out didnt help either.
Tremblay missing was another factor.
Badgers will be fine and this is a great learning opportunity.
They need to play discipined and stop the needless penalties.

Yeah... Kelly is not the best overall player, but she is an impact player and can single handedly change a game from time to time.

The lines are jumbled due to her absence too and maybe also coz of Tremblay missing.

14 26 18 was our best line through the first 4 games and they had to break it up yesterday.

What Team Canada strings did the Muzzinator pull to ensure invitations for promising UW players – who have no chance of making the national team – to a camp that happened to coincide with the 2/3’s of the (actual) regular series games between TWSNBN and Wisconsin?

Two of Ohio State's top players Amos and Petrie didn't play either which made it more even.

Ohio was missing a very good upper-class forward, and a very well-thought of freshman forward.

Wisconsin was missing a very good upper-class forward, a very well-thought of freshman forward, and two of their three best defenders.

Halfway through the 3rd, shots were 23 apiece. Ended up 34-25 Ohio. Undermanned Badgers were clearly running out of gas.
That's likely the biggest factor. The GWG was scored 10 seconds into the 3rd, when fatigue shouldn't be an issue, so it could also be that the home team didn't like the visitors controlling the middle frame.

From boxscores alone, it looks like Cassie Hall is someone who has upped her game after the Badgers graduated a lot of their offensive producers. Is that the case, or has she just been a beneficiary of circumstances? She looks to be burying a lot of first goals for her team.

A function of ice time? a good goal scorer playing second and third line who's now getting first line ice time? She was #4 on last year's team in goals, and 5th in points.

If anything, I'm more optimistic about the Badgers after seeing this series. Both games were immensely winnable until they ran out of gas in the third.

Our full roster will make a big difference and having some of the freshmen get more comfortable and confident by the end of the season will be a big thing.

It'd be fun to be #1 post to post, but It'd be more fun to rip out some hearts at the final horn. ;)

I don't have any qualms about losing in a fair fight, but having those 2 d gone for this series just took the wind out of the sails. Not only are they poised puck movers and play sticky transition d, but they also kill penalties. It irritates me greatly that the uneducated masses will have no knowledge of the circumstances of this series.

The players had the wrong mindset going into the series with all the stupid physical penalties right out of the gate, showed a lot of immaturity. They needed to play a calm game. They better learn from it because we all know that will try to be exploited in game 3.

I'd love to see the TOI for the d for each game.

Here's my guess: 2 d at 25+ and 2 d at 35ish - x2 within 20 hours.

One of whom was in uniform for the first time this year, coming off an injury. Kudos to her.

I wasn't specifically watching for it (and then there's the "televised from Ohio State" factor), but I'm sure I saw Lauren Johnson out at least once each game. But not much more than that.

We shall see how it goes later in the season when both teams are hopefully healthy. If the pattern continues not only do we have the two remaining games at Wisconsin but most likely we may meet again in the conference and national tournaments.

Except for the second time in three years, the Badgers have surrendered their home ice for one of the games vs Ohio St. One game "at Wisconsin", and one at a "neutral site". (No, 2000 fans in a stadium that holds 78,000 is not "home ice".)
