Wisconsin Women's Hockey 2025-2026

I had read that also that the rink is "NHL sized". I think that was negotiated by NHL as part of agreement to participate. There is a secondary rink but it sounds like it's a temporary setup.
The arena is not done and IT IS the wrong size dimension. It IS NOT nhk regulation size as was written into the agreement. It about 3 feet short and a tad bit narrower.

I had not paid any attention until this morning, but there are reports that it isn't even quite NHL sized. NHL is 200 x 85 feet. The rink in Milan is reportedly "60.0 x 26.0 meters, or approximately 196.85 ft. x 85.3 ft". A statement from December from the IIHF says that was the size used in Beijing in 2022, but other web sites say Beijing was NHL standard 200 feet.

It's a pile of doo doo that they screwed this up. Imagine if all the soccer pitches were not the right size. People would be getting death threats.

An article from ESPN this morning says the head of the IIHF told them "parts of the main hockey rink for the Milan Cortina Olympics might not be fully finished on time, but the playing surface, practice facilities and dressing rooms will be ready when the puck drops for the men's event Feb. 11." The article is mostly about the NHL and their concerns about their players participating. But it does mention that the women's tournament starts on Feb 5th. It does not, however, do anything to 'resolve' the difference between "ready by Feb 11th" and games to be played on Feb 5th.

There has been a little talk about volleyball here which some didn't like, but this is a great interview with Kelly Sheffield on his show. Most of the show he talks about the transfer portal. He's not afraid to speak his mind about it and the outside influence the players get from agents. This has to be the same thing that is happening in most sports now so it has to be happening in hockey as well. It's pretty eye opening.

You can start around the 12 minute mark for the portal conversation.

I watched a portion on Twitter and it's just sickening to see greed and agents poisoning collegiate sports, h. I shudder when I think this it's only a matter of time that this will bleed into women's hockey.

I watched a portion of this on Twitter and it's sickening to hear Kelly talk about how a player was lied to by their agent about confidential payments to other player and the player took it in hook line and sinker, developed a bad attitude, then bailed. Greed and lies will destroy college athletics. I shutter at the thought of this making it's way into women's college hockey. Maybe it won't because whose going to throw life changing money at women's college hockey players? Just imagine though if a rich alum from another top 10 non wcha school offered Dunne, KK and Murphy a mil each to come play for their team? How could they turn that down? You add those 3 players to Penn St or UConn and they are force to be reckoned with.

The really infuriating stuff related to Una Vajagic and her decision to transfer comes around 16:30.

(And let's hope such agent interference and borderline tampering never comes to hockey. But there's a decent chance it will; the more successful the PWHA is, the better the chance it will.)

Thanks for posting here as I wouldn't have seen it otherwise.

Really interesting from start to finish. Looking forward to seeing how the team is made up after the next portal window.

In other news... it's (finally) game day!
