Wisconsin Women's Hockey 2025-2026

Yeah we were sitting right above the Maine fans and I was reminded of the part from Braveheart where he's like "They seem quite optimistic to me..." lol.

I mean... I'm a former hockey parent, so I get it.

Fantastically fun night. Great to see the banner raised and solid win.

I have a new favorite player in Sapovalivova. Was she the one where I was watching a U18 or something and they were talking about her being the best player in her country and she was comitted to WI?

Very noticeable even before she put up a point in that she was not backing down in the scrums. If this is her start here... watch out!

So glad Eden came back.

Was surprised to see Edwards on the point most of if not all of the night.

Got to get a few of last years seniors to sign the mini banner that they gave out. Told Casey that I was gonna miss seeing her play and she said how much she was gonna miss playing at LaBahn.

A+++ night

She played for Czechia in the 2022 U18 championships at LaBahn (she actually played only once at LaBahn, the other games at the rink in Middleton). She had just turned 16 at that point. She says it was that trip to Madison that convinced her to come here to play for UW.

I feel like I was watching that and they were talking about her coming to WI. I don't think I'm imagining that memory.

Excited to see her career based on the tiny sample size I saw tonight!

True freshman on a line with Eden and Simms... I mean... C'mon... :D

They should have had ushers telling people that sections 4 and 3 were reserved or have clear signage because there was a constant stream of people sitting in there and then getting kindly booted out. We sat up high in section 5. I may sit on the glass behind the UW bench at some point. It would be interesting to see the coaches and players interact.

I believe that was/is actually Nela Lopušanová. She committed to WI as soon as she could and plays at Bishop Kearney Selects.
I believe you are correct. It feels like it was more recent than Sapovalivova could have been meaning the player I'm recalling couldn't be here yet.

Regardless though... Sapovalivova jumped off the ice in terms being noticeable. Not quite like but almost like the first time I saw Harvey play.

Every time you see KK play, she does some little deft move that you're like, Wow! How did you do that?!. It makes me sad this is the last year I get to watch that in person.

Was her roughing penalty legit?

Thanks to Windchill for the ticket, that was easy. The last time I got a ticket from somebody I had to drive to their house in Madison and get it out of their mailbox LOL.

Picard stood out to me the most.

Yeah... wanting to see her in person some more before she's gone was a big motivator for me to actually get off my butt and get to more games this season. We've had some players at WI and I've been seeing women's games since the first season but no one has jumped off the ice at me quite like KK. Just amazing.

I only recall the penalty in front of the penalty box doors and I thought it was a penalty in real time and so did my wife. I didn't know they called roughing - looked like interference to me.

But yeah... I didn't have any issue with a call there when I saw it.

KK has always had a bit of a mean streak and a bit of fire in her game.

I'm fine with it as long as she never crosses into Murphy territory.

Our next tix are for 11/1 against the Rodents. Will Murphy get booed every time she touches the puck? I'll certainly boo the F out of her when she's introduced.

Maine had a skater with the puck more-or-less at one blue line, left side of the ice, making a cross ice pass to another heading towards the other blue line; it was going to turn into a pretty good chance on goal. KK casually reached out to knock the puck out the air, and headed up ice the other way with it.

She got her stick up into the back of a Maine player, sort of trailing the play. Nothing egregious, and maybe looked worse at the "right" angle, but a legit call.

(It's in the box score as a cross-check, BTW)
