Wisconsin Women's Hockey 2025-2026

TDM has a couple primer articles up. A couple things that stood out to me. 1) no mention of who the 4th center will be. 2) he thinks the players that go to the Olympics wil miss 1/3 of their games. Based on that, it looks like they'd be gone for the 1/16-1/17 series at the Tommies and be back for the wcha 1st round 2/27-2/28. That's more than I was thinking, but I had not put much thought into it. He thinks McNaughton may be gone, but I doubt it. Not that I am worried with Stewart on the roster.

Great news! I got booted out of Lot 91. I don't give enough money of course. They gave me a pass for lot 46, which is a ramp. It's a longer walk for us. My daughter has those physical challenges but she does not have an official handicap tag for a vehicle. I'm going to scout a parking area this weekend that is closer and probably free but surely frowned upon for hockey parking. Otherwise lot 29 seems closer, it's not an official parking passed lot, I'd have to pay $5 every time, not the end of the world.

I have a friend who comes to most WH games; he regularly parks just across Regent from 29 N Park in the surface lot for 1 S Park St. And does so for free. During the day, it is a lot for patients going into the "1 S Park" UW Medical building (as I have done a number of times). But after 5 PM on Friday and over the weekend, nobody seems to care; the clinics are mostly closed. There is a crosswalk with a push-button with a "flashing yellow" light that (most of the time, LOL) stops the traffic on Regent. A bit farther, but free, and surface parking vs going up levels inside the 29 N Park ramp.

FWIW...

The team does indeed fly to Bemidji.
They will leave after practice tomorrow.
Lacey Eden with a TikTok of them getting on the plane. The big news is that it is NOT a Taylor Swift song!?!

(No, I didn't know; I googled the lyrics. LOL)

TDM drops an Olympic nugget in a McNaughton article....."College teams were expecting to have players competing for the Olympic roster spots to be gone 1 week a month leading up to the the February tournament." That's a wrinkle I was not expecting. It's going to make the school part for the players a bit dicey.

I expect this will be an ongoing source of amusement this year: I was at UW volleyball, listening to the radio for the first period, and poor Paul Braun trying to pronounce Sapovalivova, and just not coming close. He knew he was butchering it, and alternated between laughing at himself and apologizing for it.

Right now, I'm watch the game on BTN-Plus replay. The Bemidji play-by-play guy is consistently saying the same name, but dropping a syllable as he does so, saying Sapolivova.

Wow, those lines were completely shaken up. For some reason, Coach didn't call me to get my opinion . . . but just in case he does, I think it might be wise to move Edwards back to offense or, at least, let Jungels pair with Harvey and reunite Potter and Murphy. Hall did a real nice job with faceoffs. The first period is one to forget but things got better after that.

Paul Braun talked with Adela before today's game, got it right a couple times, and otherwise said that she told him her teammates mostly just call her "Shappy" (the S gives a "sh" sound). So he did, too. The Bemidji guy actually got it right most of the time today.

On the radio broadcast, Coach Greenhalgh just called her Shappy.

Did anyone else have problems with the stream on BigTen+? I couldn't get it to start on my TV, my laptop or my phone. I would get a pop-up message on the TV that "it was not available in my country or region". VERY frustrating. It finally came on the TV with 5 minutes left in the 1st period.

Yes; other streams were working fine. It was only the stream from Bemidji.

Just in time for Shappy's first goal, though!

I sure hope MJ doesn't cave into team USA and keeps Edwards at F. Jones needs the experience so she can be relied on when KK is gone and UW needs Edwards feeling offensive mojo at the end of the year. I was shocked to see her playing F in game 2, so there is hope. She was directly responsible for both BSU goals Friday, but I just thought he would use those as teachable moments and keep her at D.

I could only listen to game 2 on the radio, which is very pleasurable with Paul Brown and Greenie doing the games. Both of them were going with Shappy. I had to watch game 1 on a tablet in the camper, so I really didn't get a great view of what was going on.

My parking scouting was a bust. Where I thought I could park is now tall buildings LOL. I thought there'd be some parking down along there and I could sneak into but there isn't. I'll probably just take the lot 48 pass, but I'll have to get there so early to get to new seats and for the longer walk that it may end up parking before they can scan my parking pass. I hope that does not lead to a ticket. We shall see.
