Wisconsin Women's Hockey 2024-2025

She's what 16? She still has time to flip.

Lopusanova certainly can change her mind and flip her recruitment to another school. But my impression of her is she has clear ideas about the future she wants for herself. Hockey certainly is a big part of it. But I believe a quality education is as well, as her choice of BK as a school that offers both demonstrates. There are other colleges that do also, but I suspect UW’s recent history in hockey probably tilted to her choice of it as the place to pursue that passion. And I think this season’s recruiting class and the one for 25-26 will serve to validate her decision.

Now my question is how will her recruitment affect MJ’s tenure? I suspect he at least will want to be on the bench for her first season, perhaps even more. Coaching her should be a unique experience and challenge

It was more of a joke than anything. I do think you have some valid points about the future. I wouldn't be surprised if they won the NCAA's this season he calls it done.

The muzzinator is not an educator. She survives by stealing the talent other people develop. It might be a sustainable strategy in the NIL world but I hope they both go away soon.

Nela Lopusanova appears to have developed an interest in flag football. The attached links are from the recent NY State High School flag football tournament. She wears #9 for BK.

This first one is from a sectional state title game Bishop Kearney won. It shows her catching a pass in a crowd and then proceeding to run. At the end, she is in front of the squad as they celebrate their win. She appears to have adapted well and quickly to the game and to be a tough player. Though I am not the best judge of peoples’ heights, in the last scene she seems taller than 5’ 7” to me.

The link below is from the championship game BK won 39-20. In the beginning, Nela is shown making a catch for 1 of the 5 TDs she scored in the game. Near the end, she jukes a defender for another of her scores. Again, toughness along with quickness and other skills.

I share these because I think they show she indeed is a gifted athlete who plays sports of interest with passion. And it appears that she has developed an interest in flag football. Not at the level of her passion for hockey necessarily, but with more than modest or passing interest. And I find myself remembering Mackenna Webster transferring to OhSt for which she also had developed a passion for playing field hockey as well as ice hockey.

Flag football has yet to penetrate Div 1 college athletics, but it is seen as the fastest growing sport among youth for which there are NATIONAL tournaments at the U14, U16, U18 levels for boys and girls. The NFL also had a flag game between its conferences – all of which were televised nationally. So, there soon will be money to be had from developing the sport at the collegiate level.

So, perhaps the UW should consider promoting adding the sport (for both males and females) as a formal B1G offering. Smaller squads would require fewer coaches which would mean lower salaries and travel expenses. There is no expensive equipment, no violent contact, and negligible injuries. The fiscal impact on the Ath Dept budget would be barely discernible.

And Lopusanova might have more fun during her time at the UW.

Have we reached peak fandom yet...or still a ways to go?

Patricio is just a very analytical poster, not so much an "OMG FANDOM!!!" poster like the tosu posters.

Bummed McNaughton didn't make the Team USA roster. On the other hand, Potter and Hall making it, while not shocking, is a bit of a surprise.

Even without McNaughton 10 Badgers will be in the series. Woz, Murphy, and Venusio will represent on the Canadian side.

I was momentarily excited because the 2024-2025 roster was added to the drop-down menu on the Badger site. But, unfortunately, it's just a repeat of the 2023-2024 roster. But, it's a step in the right direction!

First, my thanks to TimothyA for his kind words about the style of my comments. I tend to enjoy his posts, find them interesting and informative. And I do tend to be analytical. As my friends point out, at times unnecessarily obsessive.

Anyway, on to the Badger selections to the US squad that will be facing Canada later this week. I too had hoped McNaughton would be selected. But I believe she was the least experienced of the goalies invited to the selection camp and the group was of high quality. So disappointing, but she will get her shot soon.

Also, I was surprised O’B did not get selected. However, per a Hockey News article (see kink below) O’B was unavailable because she is recovering from surgery. The nature of the surgery is not stated but given Bucky’s recent history of season ending injuries, I fear she may become yet another huge loss for the Badgers. Hopefully MJ will provide an update soon, one not so grim.

My path to article was via search of the text string below in my browser.

Going from "had offseason surgery", for which small operations to clear up nagging injuries is incredibly common, "to "fear she may become another huge loss" is a quite frankly bananas jump in reasoning. We have heard nothing to suggest whatsoever that she wouldn't be ready for the start of the season, and not being selected for an August series has little if anything to do with being ready for the Lindenwood series at the end of September.

Anyone know if the Collegiate Select Series will be available for streaming anywhere? I could not find anything online.

BUT, MJ is a steel curtain on injury info. She could end up at the rink for the Woodster series in a full body cast and we'd never know ahead.
