The normal links at the normal pages currently aren't working, but that link worked for me a few minutes ago (8:55 AM Monday)

And now we have a full schedule.

We already knew at Lindenwood Sept 28-29 (Thur-Friday), and we get BC confirmed Oct 5-6 (also Thur-Friday). What we didn't know is Merrimack Jan 5-6 (Friday-Saturday).

No home games in November. How sad.

BC and Kato Thursday - Friday. Yuck. I hate Thursday night games.

Both weekends have Saturday home football games. And maybe men's hockey at the KC on Saturday night? We don't have that schedule yet.

So instead of making them play Friday and then hang around for a Sunday game (and for the Mankato weekend, Sunday volleyball at the Field House), they play Thursday-Friday so the can go home after Friday night,

(that Friday night I'll have my choice of Mankato at LaBahn or Rutgers volleyball at the Field House. Rutgers is going to be at the bottom of the B1G VB standings, and it won't be close. A difficult choice... :-)

My wife and I will decide after the Thursday night game against Mankato. It they blowout Mankato on Thursday, we'll go to volleyball for variety. If the game is close, we probably return to LaBahn.

Fun fact from Mankato last year, after the game I went to Glass Nickel on the east side with my parents for dinner and while wearing my full Badger regalia I ran into John Harrington, who was at the pickup counter getting a dozen pizzas for the long bus ride home.

Isn't pizza running the equipment guy's job?

I forget the details, but once when my brother Michael was running our family's pizza restaurant in Green Bay (before he died in 2004), he got a phone call from the Detroit Redwings asking if they could could deliver some large number of pizzas to the Green Bay airport, because the Redwings team and traveling party were going to be stuck there for some unusual layover. During the years when the Russians were playing in Detroit. He wasn't much of a hockey fan, but even he knew the Russians were a big deal. (I don't think I ever heard how it went; he wouldn't have been the one making the delivery, etc.)

Probably is at UW, because Sis Paulsen has that role along with Director of Operations, and that's the job that usually organizes post-game meals. When I read this story, it reminded me why people often say that being an assistant on a staff like Wisconsin is better than being the head coach at some other programs; there is just more support throughout the athletic program. This is true academically, for strength and conditioning, analyzing film, etc. Some of the reasons that the same schools win most of the time.

servant leadership. Or he was hungry and wanted the first slice! Jk jk. I was impressed, like ARM said if it wasn’t the DOO it would prob next fall to assistant so good for Harrington sharing the work?

Maybe he's the only one authorized to swipe the Kato credit card. Haha

I took a look at OhSt’s recently posted 23-24 roster. They certainly have enough talent with their returning Grs and Srs as well as ones from the portal to be a tough out, especially with Muzerall as coach. However, the makeup of the roster may create problems for the next few years.

The roster (excluding Gs) breaks down as follows:
  • 13 Gr and Sr at F and D of which 6 are from the portal.
  • 0 Jrs.
  • 3 Sos.
  • 4 Frs.
All of the Grs and Srs will exhaust their eligibility, so the Buckeyes will have to bring in at least 11 recruits and portal transfers (likely more?) to fill out next season’s season. Given we are dealing with Muzerall, not impossible, but a challenge, nevertheless. Additionally, I find the lack of any Jrs, the fact 4 from last year’s class left via the portal, and the necessity to tap the portal for 6 players this season as puzzling for a team that has been performing so well under Muzerall. Perhaps it simply reflects supply chain issues akin to those raging elsewhere and will prove to be of no consequence.

We're still in the late stages of COVID years being used up; you still can't just look at a grade designation and know what it means with regard to eligibility.

For example, Makenna Webster's first season at Wisconsin, the 2020-21 season, doesn't count against her four years of eligibility. That means she still has eligibility for this coming season and for 2024-25, regardless of her grade designation.

I don't know about any of the others, but you can't just look at the grade; you still have to count years used, one by one.

----------------

I found some notes I had made in the spring when transfers were coming and going at OSU, and I think in addition to Webster having eligibility for 2024-25, of the non-goalies listed as seniors, Buglioni and Brengman also have eligibility for 2024-25.

I went back after reading Robert’s comment to recheck my comments about the eligibility of OSU’s seniors on this season’s roster. Alas, I finally realized I misunderstood which season was the one that granted an extra year of eligibility due to the covid epidemic. Ergo, my conclusion that they would be exhausted this coming season was, as the British might say, bollocks. In fact, all of them likely will retain eligibility for next year, and they will need to add only 4 players via recruiting or portal transfers to have 18 non-Gs on their roster. It would not be surprising if they added 1-3 more to provide backups in the event of injuries. In any event, they will remain a tough out.

My apologies for the error and a thanks to Robert for putting me gently on the path to finding my error.

I think now you're too far the other way.

When I looked a couple months ago, I had it as:

- Webster, Buglioni, and Brengman with eligibility for 2024-25
- Zanon, Bilka, King, Mobley, Gardner, Hauswirth, Barnes, Barnard, Hartmetz and Markowski done after 2023-24

(Mistakes always possible.)

As a PSU fan, I'm sure Zanon has 2 more years of eligibility and after double checking I think Mobley & Hartmetz do as well. The only currently listed senior I think is out of eligibility after 2023-24 is Barnard. So I mostly agree with Patricio's revised accounting with the exception of Barnard.

So for F+D's listed as seniors on OSU's current roster, I get --
Eligibility for 2024-25: Webster, Buglioni, Brengman, Zanon, Mobley, Hartmetz
Done after 2023-24: Barnard

--> Barnard + 6 non-goalie grad students (Bilka, King, Gardiner, Hauswirth, Barnes, Markowski) done after 2023-24.

I am crediting Bernard with two more years of eligibility since she is listed as Sr for 23-24 as are Webster, Buglioni, Brengman, et. al. above. But, regardless of whether she has 1 or 2 years, OSU will be in decent shape in its roster size at the end of the coming season and the next recruiting class and the portal should suffice to stabilize its roster going forward. But thanks to Robert and PSUfan for helping me get the season of the covid adjustment clear to me.

PSU has been on a competitive upswing under its new coach. Zanon was a nice complement for Janecke who is a dynamic, skilled player destined for accolades in her career. I hope the loss of Zanon proves to be a minor bump in the road at most.

Lauren Bernard played 2 years at Clarkson (2019-20 and 2020-21 COVID Year) before transferring to tOSU. She has played 2 years at tOSU so she only has one year of eligiblity left I think.

Don't COVID years make this stuff fun? :-)

Lol. Yes. I have given up.

To the larger point though, agility is a big part of any job and OSU staff will find a way to be good despite inevitable roster turnover, in my mind. They might not be a favorite to win it all in any given year, but they are not going to be bad, and will always be a threat. My 2 cents.

I see that Bucky, the Badger mascot, first made an appearance in 1949 for a football game. In 1973 a Wisconsin politician lobbied to get Bucky replaced by "Henrietta Holstein, a lovable and productive cow". Would be quite the sight to see a cow mascot on skates. And now I find out that the famous cheesehead hat is owned by the Packers. More useless trivia for a slow news day during the summer. :)

Funny you should pick today for UW trivia: today, July 26th, is the 175th anniversary of the legislature's act being signed into law that incorporated the University of Wisconsin. There were 175th 'birthday' celebrations on campus today.

Not as funny as a gopher on skates who needs dental work. At least a cow and a badger are benefits to human society unlike the ankle-twisting, lawn mower deck breaking gopher.

You sure to enjoy hanging out in the BADger thread, I bet there's some red in your closet. You will find no maroon in mine.
