Wisconsin Women's Hockey 2023-2024

RE: Enright and Vasseur, in MJ's press conference, he said that Enright would be back before Vasseur but he didn't want to speculate on a timeline. But losing KK would be a huge blow to the team as well as the US national team. Collective breath-holding all around.

The postgame quotes make me think that KK dodged a very serious injury but will miss the next few weeks. Maybe back for OSU?

Nice to hear that KK may be back sometime this season. It will be great if Pete's question is answered in the affirmative. I will have my fingers, toes, and eyes crossed.

While on the issue of injuries, does anyone know anything about the reason for Vasseur's absence? I don't recall any statements by MJ about the nature of the injury, but he recently indicated she will be off the ice longer than Enright whose return date is uncertain. Based on this, it sounds as though Vasseur's injury is of a more serious nature.

I believe that Bella had shoulder surgery. KK has an MCL tear but no word on its severity.

Toward the end of his press conference this week, Coach talked about his decision to not have any A's this season. As best I could tell, "leadership groups" have replaced A's.

I enjoyed that part of the press conference where he basically said "I don't have a set way we do that, we just kind of roll with it" and listed all the different ways it's been over the years. A fun flexibility there out of a long-time coach.

It was also classic hockey where he was asked a two-part question, "how is KK?" and "how do you adjust without KK?" and he went ahead and answered just the second part in detail as if the first part hadn't been asked. Classic hockey.

He didn't really answer the first question by TDM either. They ask questions and he basically says whatever he wants. It's a tad bit annoying, there were some good questions asked.

Losing a lot of ice time will cripple her PK chances. She was probably the favorite before then. It will be up to Britta to get it to UW. I don't think Eden or Simms will score enough/outscore her. Britta is racking up the apples. She's looking very Pankowski/Roque out here - that special will to win.

After watching the Fr. class, I have to say that Gorbo has really stood out in a positive way considering her lack of steady playing time early in the season. Her and Murphy have been the most eye-catching for me anyway. What say Y'all about the Fr?

Having seen 4 games in person I would agree Gorbatenko has been a pleasant surprise. She has really made some great passes to set up goals. Murphy and Potter aren't afraid to move into the offensive zone and both have been very steady on the defensive end. I have also been really impressed with the speed of Cassie Hall.

All in all, this looks to be a tremendous class. Haven't even mentioned Ava McNaughton and her .938 save percentage. I can't remember a UW goalie splitting time as a freshman. Even Ann-Renee Desbiens didn't split time as a freshman and we all know how her career turned out. Very exciting future for this team with another top notch class due next year.

Jesse Vetter split time for much of her frosh year before 'emerging' as the #1 at playoff time.

All of them that have taken the ice so far have been impressive, but the one that I think has flown under the radar in a very good way is Potter. She is just so rock solid and really provides some incredible stability on the back end. Really heady player.

Badgers dominate 1st period but give up 2 late goals and we are tied after 1. Any word on Chayla Edwards? Doesn’t appear to be in the lineup with Kotlowski and Helgeson being the 3rd D pair

We certainly look discombobulated and sloppy. And we've run into a hot goalie. At least the announcer is knowledgeable, although he apparently isn't aware that we have missing players. And no one posted the lines for tonight, either, as far as I can tell.

Let's hope today they get their act together, a mind blowing bad game yesterday. They had at least least 6 shooter on goalie alone opportunities and not score on any of them, plus all the aforementioned sloppiness.

I didn't see yesterday, but today they look like a team missing two their best defensemen.

Well, something is definitely amiss! That's got to be part of it. We just look out-of-sync. This will give the coaches plenty of film to create "opportunities to improve."
