Wisconsin Women's Hockey 2021-2022

The first weekend of the 2019-2020 season, IIRC they had Cogan and Clark and Pankowski there for a "banner drop" (though other graduates - Rolfes, Shaver - were not able to be there); they gave out smaller versions of 'the banner' (instead of the souvenir pucks; I hope they go back to pucks, but I'm not counting on it). I have one right here in my living room.

Oh Yeah! I've got the banners LOL. Tx.

Some quick thoughts.....
It was fantastic to be at the rink. I learn so much more about the players watching them in person than I do on a video feed.
The pass from Webster to Watts for the breakaway goal was the best hockey play I have seen in a long time. It was a long cross ice pass from blue line to blueline OVER the D. One heck of a saucer pass LOL.
Picard and Woz are an interesting watch being on the same line. They are both need to learn how to play without the puck in the O zone. They both were going to for the same pucks or following each other quite often. Like most players that come to UW, they are used to having the puck on their sticks so learning how to play without it takes some time. We're only into game 6 of the season. Picard did set up Woz for a nice goal at the end of the game.
MJ did flip Wheeler and Schneider. Wheeler's goal was a pure goal scorer's, what a shot.
Great to see SS wake up and pop a couple.
I thought the crowd was a little flat, but cheering through the banner unveiling takes a lot of out you, and not scoring early didn't really seize the opportunity to keep us foaming at the mouth. It sure looked like maybe 15% of the crowd were no shows.
I was very impressed with St. Cloud. UW was a little flat after the unveiling but they played solid. If this is the 7th place team in the wcha, the league is going in the right direction. I do think UW played too soft (too much time and space) in the D zone in the first period. If they allow a more talented team to do that the puck will end up in our net.

How were the COVID protocols at LaBahn? With my kids unvaccinated (too young, knew that was going to be a risk) and my husband undergoing chemo (didn't see that one coming) I'm guessing we will forfeit most of our tickets this year.

Enjoyed your recap TimothyA! Tough to be in a hyped up game and the goals don’t come for a while.

That pass by Webster! Would have been fun to see live. It went over 3 ST Cloud players, saw it on Instagram. How do you defend against that. Very fitting pass for Watts 250th point. All the players in the record books for points, they played with some unreal teammates in their careers. Kudos to those teammates.

next one for Watts to pass is Hilary Knight I think. :-) needs about 10 ish points.

TinyViking - best wishes to your husband and fam. Hoping you can find safe entertainment as you get through this.

Compliance in the People's Republic Of Madison is extremely high. I did not see one fan who did not wear a mask when they should have. Today there was even more open seats than yesterday. I think if you wanted some space, set up in a corner maybe in the top row and feel free to take up some extra seats with jackets or something to give yourself comfort room. God Bless your hubby and your family on his medical condition.

Today's game....It was all the WOW line and one from Woz. Webster is so tenacious. She potted 2 ppg's parked in tight and got pounded by the amazon sized St. Cloud Defenders. O'B was in a mini-slump until she had a great tip on a great feed from Wattage. I think it was Woz in the 2nd period had a crazy tenacious backcheck absolutely skating down the attacking player from nowhere and de-pucked her. That and Web's pass from yesterday were the 2 most memorable plays to me of the weekend. Schneider seems like her old self in that she is using blazing speed down the boards and around the net, though this weekend it did not generate many chances. At least she was visible and her linemate Woz did score 2 this weekend. From the eye test, Woz, Wheeler and Picard all seem to have "it". Sadly I saw little from GS this weekend impact-wise. Hopefully it starts to click for her. Now they need to get Pettet going. Honestly SS and especially Pettet benefitted from playing with Watts last year the way O'B and Web are this year. SS can be impactful with the right partners.

Next up @ UMD then OSU at home. UMD seems to be less scary then during the pre-season as they lost to Kato and UM, but it's never easy playing in the suburb of Superior.

UMD games on local TV in Madison this weekend (as has been the case in the past).

I think I have this right: over-the-air channel 15-2 and Charter/Spectrum channel 2 in Madison. "CWNetwork"

A game Friday at noon. How dumb. I think you alluded to the fact that I would be lamenting a lot of away games for Friday afternoon games. Let's stop treating the sport like an aftertought. Watts could possibly be going on in North Superior that they couldn't play Saturday afternoon?

I found more of an answer than I expected.

I expected home football, and found that; homecoming, noon kickoff.

And I expected men's hockey, and found much more than that: a four team "tournament", with games Friday at 4 and 7:30 PM, and Saturday again at 4 and 7:30 PM. Duluth, Michigan, Providence and Mankato. That's a nice lineup!

Todd Milewski just retweeted that Chloe Baker, a Chicago Mission U19 goalie, has "accepted an offer" to continue her career at Wisconsin. [The original tweet is from Kris Baker, who identifies Chloe as his niece.]

He likes 4 goalies for scrimmaging. Makes sense.

Laila Edwards, Chayla Edwards's younger sister, who will be incoming next year (per the spreadsheet) is on the US U18 Women's National Team. She's a 6' forward. Kirsten Simms and Claire Enright also made the team as forwards. Laney Potter, incoming defense in 2023 (per the spreadsheet), also made the final cut. Oh, and also Ava McNaughton, our future goalie.

I believe Cassie Hall is the 6th UW commit on the team (fall of 2023). The future sure looks bright.

Yeah let's load up! WOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOO! I like that Edwards is 6-0, UW has a lot of tiny F's.

It's a great day for hockey!

Big test for the ladies this weekend. UMD may not be as strong as predicted, but teams keep developing all season so we shall see. I hope they play with composure with the puck since this UMD will Shirley give them the least amount of time and space as any opponent they have seen this year. They will need to be able to handle it. I don't think I will be able to see either game sadly.
