Wisconsin Women's Hockey 2021-2022

Per the CDC, since 1/4/2000, over a 590 day period, 423 people ages 0-18 have died from covid (131 0-4 and 292 5-18). One could make the case that getting the vaccine is a longer term health risk (with no long term study results available) than getting covid. I'm not sure I would get my kids vaccinated. In 2019-2020, 188 died from the flu, .51 per day. The covid number per day is .72.

For some perspective, in 2019 636 children ages 0-13 died in car accidents.

How about just respecting the university’s policies? Do you really want to be “that guy” who acts like the rules don’t apply to him?

I, too, am vaccinated and I also am not happy that I am now having to put a mask on at times and that that is mainly due to too many people being unvaccinated. I do, however, respect the rules that businesses and institutions set for themselves. If they have rules I don’t want to follow, I simply don’t give them my business or participate in their offerings. I don’t give them a giant middle finger and walk in not wearing a mask when that’s what they are asking of me.

I wonder how many of those 636 deaths were due to someone driving while impaired -- in other words, deciding that doing what they wished to do was more important than following the rules. The risk of death, at any age, is part of life, but when deaths are preventable and someone didn't care enough to do the ounce of prevention, those deaths are all the more tragic.

My country has never called me to military service. I didn't have to charge machine gun positions, hunker down in a bombardment, or chance stepping on some type of mine. I didn't even have to drill incessantly for days on end for no real reason, or follow a bunch of silly rules to prove that I was disciplined. Or at least, not since high school. By comparison, needing to wear a mask for a few hours at a time is a very minor inconvenience; I can do that, even if it isn't my idea of a good time.

Harvey had a goal and a penalty yesterday, Curl and Eden with assists on the same goal. Harvey's goal she was cruising the slot, shot blocker high, saved back to her and she got it in. You don't see a lot of D cruising down the slot like that for UW, maybe by design or maybe a lack of feel for the game. Pretty exciting to see.

I am considering subscribing to the NHL network on Spectrum so I can see these games. Of course, the package with NHL doesn't include ESPNU. Go figure.

I add and then later drop the nhl network when these tourneys occur. It’s expensive and maybe a little indulgent but there will be a good amount of games on with them showing all of Canada and US plus hopefully medal games. Nhl network devoted some post game coverage and a special on Roque as well yesterday.

Emily Clark got Canada’s winning goal yesterday, a beautiful goal off the rush and probably huge for Clark’s confidence which is of course good for Canada.

Although LaMantia spends more time down low in the O-zone than any Badger D that I can remember.

Absolutely correct. Steffen liked to carry the puck down and around the net, but she never really created much O other than maintain possession. LaMantia seems to like to be around the net without the puck.

Have a mask story. I had a business lunch with a client at Monk's in Sun Prairie yesterday. Sign said you had to wear a mask to get in, so of course I complied. My expectation was that diners would be wearing masks before and after they eat while they are at the table and wear it walking out. Um no. Once people sat down, the mask was off and it never went back on, not even walking out. Staff wore masks the whole time. A home hockey game is isn't until 10/9, but volleyball is practically here. It will be interesting hear from Robert on mask usage at the volleyball games.

Well, my 'favorite' weekend is shaping up to be everything expected of it once again this year. (And, yes, in the COVID world, these are "good problems" to have).

Dec 3-5, Friday, Saturday, Sunday.

The news today that really ties it all together, Marquette lets it be known that the annual Marquette vs Wisconsin men's basketball game will be at the Kohl Center Saturday Dec 4th.

So:
- presumably at the Field House sometime that weekend, Wisconsin hosting the first two rounds of the NCAA volleyball tournament
- Men's basketball at the Kohl Center Saturday afternoon
- why afternoon for basketball? Because Saturday night is the Big Ten football championship game. And...
- women's hockey hosting the Gophers for two games somewhere in there.
- one saving grace is the Packers have a bye, meaning Sunday afternoon is wide open

One can hope/expect for volleyball to be Thursday night and Friday night, women's hockey Friday night and Sunday afternoon, basketball Saturday afternoon and football Saturday night.

Don't know how Gopher player/fans will like a Friday-Sunday pair of games, but I don't see a Saturday game happening in there... and I get to pick between tournament volleyball and Wisconsin-Minnesota hockey Friday night...

Perhaps I will come down that Dec. 3 weekend, but for other weekends, like Oct 22 weekend, for example, are women's hockey and volleyball always avoiding conflict of start times ? Interesting hockey and vb matchups that weekend. Pretty sure I've asked this before but I couldn't find it, sorry.

"Historically" I don't know that they go out of their way to avoid the conflict - there have certainly been occasions when both were playing at the same time. As for Oct 22, they could maybe have hockey go Saturday afternoon and Sunday afternoon; both volleyball matches are already on the BTN schedule to be televised, so they'll be at night. Afternoons for hockey puts them up against Badger football on TV and then Packer football on TV, but that happens once or twice a year, so that won't stop them from scheduling afternoons. One other (unlikely) possibility would be an early Friday start for hockey - 6 PM, etc - because volleyball is the second match - 8 PM - of a TV volleyball doubleheader on BTN.

I think BADger fans should hype Harvey like the bc folks did Keller.

Things like..."I see Patty Kaz in her future"...Oh wait, you're already there.

Yeah...I saw that. LOL is RIGHT. I don't think too many fighting Nurses are tearing up the Worlds right now.

Not sure what is wrong with your sight? Erin Ambrose has 4 points, leading all American or US defenders and most players. Only Daoust and Spooner have 5 points.

Rattray hasn’t been allowed to be on a line except for 1 of 3 games, and managed to be a plus 4 including a goal in the game vs Finland where she played half a game.

Slow starter on Canada so far seems to be in net....

just bugging you; yes we all know Wisconsin is a junior national team!

Haha. I don't really pay attention to players not associated with the Dual Citizenship US/Canadian jr team, other than other wwcha players. I thought someone would enlighten me. I don't even know who Megan Keller is. Did she play for Brown?
