Wisconsin vs Total Recall

Re: Wisconsin vs Total Recall

I think a recent article in WSJ stated that he was proposing a 13% across-the-board reduction in funds for the UW university system.

For each of the next 2 years. I guess this is the payback for his failure to complete his college education. He is actively trying to destroy the University of Wisconsin.

Each? Jeebus. Part of the tragedy is that it will sell in many rural areas.

Re: Wisconsin vs Total Recall

If they are doing both?
Then I would suggest that the academic curriculum is not strong enough. You are (were at least) supposed to spend 3 hrs studying for each hour in the classroom. 15 + (3x15) = 60 hrs. Not a lot of free time to go storm the bastions of the state legislature.

Maybe this means they're not watching the hockey team because they're either (a) studying or (b) protesting.

Everyone can gather their own anecdotal evidence, of course, but I know many of those teachers who protested at one time or another. They are hard working, devoted teachers. To conclude that drastic cutbacks are warranted because some teachers protested is simplistic thinking that does little more than confirm bias.

Re: Wisconsin vs Total Recall

Walker looked like an idiot this morning on ABC's This Week on foreign policy. Especially ISIS. He's perfect for a GOP Presidency.

Re: Wisconsin vs Total Recall

What's necessary about any of this?

Politics is compromising while wailing to your constituents that the other side is The Devil. That's what is essential -- the compromise between factions composed of people who aren't grown ups and feel entitled to having everything their way. It's the only way to make democracy work when the average citizen has the cognitive capacity of a cheese burrito.

The has been no compromise in Wisconsin politics since Walker became governor and the GOP took our legislature.

Them's the breaks, I guess.

Dems needed to find someone decent to run against him and they didn't.

The pendulum will swing back the other way at some point. Just hoping that there hasn't been too much damage done before then.

Re: Wisconsin vs Total Recall

When Gov. Walker ended mandatory union membership, who descended upon the state house in numbers to disrupt the legislature? Who let kids out of class so they and their teachers could protest? Payback's a *****.

As a former student who was in the classrooms during the protests, I have to say you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. None of the professors let students out of their class to protest. It is college. People choose to come to class or not as people learn different ways.

To say the academic curriculum is not strong enough is stupid. Even with 60 hours a week, that is plenty of time to protest if one so chooses (not that I did). I never had below 15 credits, worked 15-20 hours a week on the side and still had a fair bit of free time. An undergraduate education is also as much about learning to be an adult and who you want to be as it is strict academics.

UW is also a very large research institution. Undergraduate education is not the only goal and there are many professors who dedicate much of their time to research and who frankly are not very good undergraduate professors. To suggest they take up more teaching time is amazingly out of touch.

My parents have been pretty consistent Walker supporters from the get go. However, this cut to the UW system really ****ed both of them off. Maybe it will not play as well within the state as he thinks...but then again...he probably cares more about how it will play nationally.

None of his moves have been orchestrated with any care as to how they will be received here. Not one.

Luckily for him, the dumbass Dems trotted out Barret (twice) and what's her face.

Re: Wisconsin vs Total Recall

As for your parents... too late.

Should have seen that it wouldn't end with the things that they didn't care about.

My dad is the same way. All of a sudden he's like "Whoah! Wait a minute!"

That's your boy. You voted for him.

Political post of the year. Love the last sentence.
