Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXVI: Stop looking for the silver lining and ignoring the probl

UW needs to get its **** together. This conference needs UW to be (at a minimum) a competitive program. A team that can legitimately contend for at least an NCAA at large spot. I love when my club beats your team but jeez... it just isn't all that much fun when your team blows. I've been saying it for years... Eaves is a poison. You need to work that guy out of your system. Alvarez needs to pull his head out of his ***.

To your other point, a program's goal should be to put itself in position to make a run as often as possible with the idea that the more you are in the Tourney, the better your odds of eventually getting a title.

The collateral benefit of that is a winning program that is entertaining on a year to year basis which keeps the fans engaged and hopeful.

like it or not, this is an entertainment business. The style of hockey they play, the fact that they can't muster more than 20 minutes of hockey on a decent night is not entertaining to most (as seen by the drop in season ticket holders) I want a consistent team that shows they can actually be able to play. The hockey teams that MM has been fielding lately, I'm surprised all players come out with both skates on. one doesn't accidentally show up at a basketball game ready to play.

You can't live in the past and say "well he won it all for us once" so that's good enough for me. However the past does dictate the expectations of the present. We're not going to win every game. We're not going to win every RS title (sauer and coach johnson didn't do this much) however I expect us to be in most games. To play a level of hockey that is befitting of our program's history.

The fact that this system of dump and chase, pitiful power plays that are just passing practice, horrible passing and constant mistakes happen year after year. This isn't working but when you look at the product on the ice, MM makes NO changes. It took him until January of last year before he benched players for performing poorly. He is so full of himself that he must feel the need NOT to change his style of play. While other coaches evolve and adapt to the changing game, he sits and plugs his ears and yells "nah nah nah I can't hear you" The numbers I posted in another post just how poorly he compares to the head coach of every other elite team (which we are currently no longer in) and how he compares to past coaches show that things need to change. He does not want to change anythign he does, so we need to change by getting rid of him.

Well put. And that goal should provide the foundation for your coaching staff decisions.

Correct.

The program goals for the Badgers should be the very same as the Gophers.

Contend for the league and tournament championships every year. (Easier now than in the WCHA years)

Make the NCAA tournament every year.

Be in a position to win the NCAA every few years.

Spot on. What baffles me is how MM is so rigid with his decisions. He is the programs all time leading scorer.

If Alvarez does not get it now, he is hopeless. Time to retire and let somebody else make a difference.

Barry is hopeless. If only he would retire. However, he strikes me as the type who will hang on to his power position until the bitter end/need to be forced out long after it becomes apparent to everyone (not just Hockey and "lesser" sports fans) that he doesn't know what he's doing or really care about much other than football.

It won't be until Monday morning that someone sits down and explains to Barry that losing by a touchdown in hockey is a very bad thing.

On second thought, the weekends games won't be mentioned or talked about with Barry until sometime after lunch on Wednesday.

Agree 100%... (even if it was "reversed") see my post on the MN v WI thread, post #214. Pretty much mirrors your sentiment.

Mutual hatred; mutual respect.

And you didn't push him down?? What the hell's wrong with you?

DCB told me he couldn't get near him. The Soldiers, Capo, Underboss, and Consigliere were close by.

Where do we go from here? I haven't gone to a game in 2015-2016 and I've sent 2 emails to Jason "nothing to see here" King.

Alvarez clearly cares solely about football so we're pretty well ****ed as fans until he is gone. By that time we'll have sports fans in their 30's who will not have been alive when badger hockey was a consistent national power...being it's been 21-22 years since the last time they were reloading.

I honestly think we've made our voices heard and we're screaming at a wall. I can't think of anything more we can do short of renting a plane to fly a banner over camp Randall urging the departure of both Eaves and Barry.

I really hope the alumni players are melting the phone lines in the ad's office with the heat of their anger and exasperation

If it were up to me, we'd reach him through the power of chants at the games.

Something to the effect of "Are you watching, Alvarez?" to the tune of "Oh My Darling, Clementine".

Actually he walks in the door 2 people come up and take their jackets....and 2 security people usher them off to wherever they were heading....not much of an opportunity to say anything

If Barry really does only care about football, all the e-mails and calls to his office won't matter. Barry needs to feel the heat from the people who hire/fire him. I think the concern needs to be directed a level up to the University President/Board of Regents or something along those lines. If he starts to feel like hockey's terrible performance could be threatening his cushy position, that may get his attention.
