Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXVI: Stop looking for the silver lining and ignoring the probl

What'd I miss?

We win?

We at least look good in defeat?

There was some energy but hardly any students in the second level. Pretty poor attendance I think.

Unfortunately, that has to do with abysmal ticket sales this year, not turnout for this weekend's series in particular.

If you recorded it I'd say only watch the second period. It's the only period the badgers gave a dam in. The other two periods will make you want to smash your tv.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXVI: Stop looking for the silver lining and ignoring the probl

The last three weekends should be enough to kill the myth that this year's team is much improved from last year's. There's no hay in the barn and the animals are all dead. (Maybe if we start talking like them, they'll understand)

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXVI: Stop looking for the silver lining and ignoring the probl

Okay, tough question: Would you trade the '06 title for having UW hockey back where it "should be"?

Assume that the magic reversal of fortune happens in 2011 or so.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXVI: Stop looking for the silver lining and ignoring the probl

“When you’re around sports long enough, you’re going to have nights like this,” UW coach Mike Eaves said. “It’s disappointing. They happen."

Yeah, you're right Mike. We haven't had a night like this in a couple months. And only 4-5 nights like this last year. I'm starting to think MM must have incriminating photos of Barry.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXVI: Stop looking for the silver lining and ignoring the probl

9-2 with a ****heap of undisciplined play doesn't just happen. It requires a special effort to be that embarrassing.

Whatever Eaves has on Alvarez needs to come out so we can at least get one of them out of there.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXVI: Stop looking for the silver lining and ignoring the probl

I hope this is rock bottom.

Just when you don't think it can get worse...

Statistically, a lose is a lose.....but tonight was much worse...Eaves has to know he is done soon.

I don't think it is UW athletics style to fire any coach mid-season. This up-coming week could be unique. The program is on life support, action needs to be taken.

Eddie is done for at least 2 games, probably should be longer. I hope that UofM kid is ok short and long term. That was a Scott Stevens type hit, the game is doing right by getting rid of those hits.

In my opinion, National Championships are so hard to obtain that you never give one back. If this ends with MM leaving no later than the end of this season, I wouldn't trade that special ride. If Barry doesn't pull the trigger this year and we have to endure this mess any longer, I might reconsider.

4-12-6

t43rd in pairwise and I am shocked that UW is some how even that high. If they didn't beat UND earlier in the year they would be at the bottom.

8 win in the last year and a half
2 vs Ariz St
2 vs Mich St
1 vs Ferris St
1 vs Ohio St
1 vs Mich Tech
1 vs UND

2 quality wins in a year a half.

Eye opening records
0-6 vs Penn State
0-4-2 vs Minny
0-6-1 vs Mich
0-2-2 vs Northern Mich

I'll take the '06 team AND fire Alvarez and MM. That is how things should be at UW.

I don't quite understand this, and it's been discussed a lot by Sioux fans in recent years, for obvious reasons. Winning Championships is extremely difficult and often frustrating in a one-and-done format; but does that mean that winning a two-game tournament in April once every 8 years is fair consideration for watching bad hockey every weekend all season long for 5-7 of those years. Not for me. I want to look forward to entertaining, top-level hockey on a yearly basis, week in and week out. I love hockey enough to enjoy watching hockey at any level if it's competitive and well played. The Banner count is fun for trash talk, particularly with gopher fans, but it just doesn't mean much to me beyond that. Besides, why would you want to endure endless mediocrity for a chance once every 8 years to pound your chest for something you didn't even do?

The most fun and exciting college hockey I've ever witnessed was a January weekend in Madison in 2000, and my team got beat twice. That sucked, but it was thrilling, well-played hockey in a fantastic college hockey atmosphere. If I can get a dose of something resembling that on a regular basis, I'm a happy fan. The rest is gravy. A lot of Sioux fans say that attitude is settling for mediocrity, but I guess it depends what you to to the games for.

I was at those. Both OT winners by Hukulo (sp?) iirc.

The schedule poster from the next season was a large photo from one of those games and I have it framed and up in the basement.

That was an outstanding weekend of hockey between two very skilled and entertaining teams. I even believe that the Sioux outshot us in those games and maybe deserved a better fate than being swept, but oh well. :p

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXVI: Stop looking for the silver lining and ignoring the probl

To your other point, a program's goal should be to put itself in position to make a run as often as possible with the idea that the more you are in the Tourney, the better your odds of eventually getting a title.

The collateral benefit of that is a winning program that is entertaining on a year to year basis which keeps the fans engaged and hopeful.
