Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXIV: A Season without Chuck

I just got out of this game and Wisco pretty much handle UND the whole game.. UND played sooooooo bad but Wisco did good

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXIV: A Season without Chuck

It has been interesting to see the rotating cast of 3rd/4th line forwards this year. Ustaski and Freytag were both out tonight, but a bunch of those guys have been in and out.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXIV: A Season without Chuck

I can't comprehend how these games aren't on TV (beyond a for-pay internet stream). I have the expanded sports tier cable package and there was literally no college hockey on last night. However, I could watch at least one Texas high school football game.

Now tonight I could watch Minnesota-Notre Dame, New Hampshire-Michigan State and UMD-UNO. But no Wisconsin-North Dakota. Unbelievable.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXIV: A Season without Chuck

I missed the first and the post game. Did they say what happened to Hughes?

I missed any details, but he was pulled and Posick mentioned that he was sitting with the players that didn't dress for the evening at one point.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXIV: A Season without Chuck

Not a bad weekend, would have liked to see a better effort on Saturday, but the sue responded well to the loss Friday.

The good: PP is 19%, Pk is 87%, Kunin is still on the team, undefeated at home, just beat the #1 team in the land, Jurusek had another strong weekend, still hovering around .500.
The bad: Goals for is 2.3 per game.
The ugly: Home attendance.

DU comes in 5-3, 1-3 on the road and has a bad pp @ 13%. (2 of the losses have been in OT). Traditionally they have done very well @ the KC, but we hopefully can attribute that to Gwoz, who is long gone from DU. It's not totally crazy to think UW can get 2 wins this weekend. Every week that goes by means another week of learning gets done with the new coaches and systems.

Well I can 100% guarantee that we will not get 2 wins this weekend...since this is an off weekend and we don't play DU until the 20th/21st

:D

I kind of like having just one series in the next 3 weeks. With that series is at home it should be a good chance to work out some kinks and get things solidified.

I'm always kind of excited about hockey, but I think that this next month could tell us a lot about this team.

A lot of people were predicting an 0-fer start that would have us winless right now. I think the team has done OK, not great but not horribly either; about what I would have expected. They were uneven the first weekend against a usually weak NMU team, got outplayed in Boston, played OK against an average FSU team, did what they needed to do to sweep ASU, and shocked the world by getting a split at NoDak.

Shocked the world? I totally got a call from my friends in Cambodia and the Republic of Congo about the game, so I can back you up on that one.

To be fair, if The World had been paying more attention, I feel like they probably would have been somewhat shocked.

I blame Putin.

See, I don't see why people should be shocked that UND would toss a pity win the Badgers' way. By now, most people should know us Nodaks for who we are. That little gesture on Friday night should go a long way toward that--and it may bring us all closer together.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXIV: A Season without Chuck

I haven't seen Eaves this cranked up for a Monday presser in years. This is a link, btw. Eaves is last.

Also Hughes injury is a shoulder sustained in the first play of the game Saturday. Out for a bit, but Eaves didn't seem overly concerned. Has to be in the line up. I think he's been playing really well and with him in, that top line is showing it can be pretty formidable.

Oh yeah they are fully back to playing championship hockey..... I'm sorry but when you make the ncaa's and actually win a game in the playoffs then you celebrate like he was. What a joke.

He actually called the press conference that they wouldn't normally have in a bye week his ego was so inflated from Friday night. He talks about the atmosphere at nodak. We used to have that at Wisconsin before he took us in the tank.

I just can't get behind MM anymore. Call me bitter, whatever.

You're not bitter, it sounds like a realistic reaction to watching a ********* who's virtually destroyed the program get over excited over ONE ****ing win. Eaves' ego may actually eclipse Barry and I thought that was impossible.

How about getting all your commits to campus? How about winning consistently and giving them a reason not to bolt? How about (gasp) having about 10 consecutive 20-wins or better seasons and making the ncaa's 9 if those 10 years, winning a game in the ncaa's 60% of the time you go and making the FF once every 3-4 years. How about winning an ncaa title again? How about reaching out and apologizing to hs coaches and kids' parents?

It will take one hell of a lot for me to just tolerate Eaves. Much more than I think can realistically happen (he becomes as successful AND classy as jerry York would do it).

At this point, I think that it is very likely that Eaves has lost the support of the fanbase. The problem is that us fans don't see better days ahead, we don't have hope that next year will get better, every setback is a "here we go again" and every positive is overshadowed by the negatives.

As long as fans believe that success is fleeting and temporary, general interest and attendance will not increase as long as Eaves remains coach.

The question becomes "has Eaves poisoned the fanbase to the point that no new coach will be able to re-energize the fans and re-fill the Kohl Center to ~12k per night?" Your guess is as good as mine.
