Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol XXV: There's Hope! Or whatever...

I don't know much about it, but how much sense would it make to hire O knowing he is ready and wanting to take a head job sometime in the very near future. I would like to see at least some stability in the asst. positions. Additionally, having him out there recruiting for Bucky might also end up giving him some pull with potential recruits when he leaves. Wisco lost out to O on some common recruits when he left for the Fighting Nuts. I would hate to see that time wasted again.

I just don't see it happening anyway. Gotta think he'll wait for a head job.

I know he wanted the head job here when Eaves was hired and that's the only way I can see him coming back.

I'd imagine he's at least being thought about at both Denver & Maine - unless they're already too far along in the hiring process.

Also, he took a pay cut to come here from Green Bay to get his foot (back) in the NCAA door. No need to do that again.

Denver hired Jim Montgomery.

According to a couple articles I read, OSU is on the hook for the remaining 2 years of Oz's contract, at a reported cost of $112,000. That can't be right, can it?

Probably a buyout amount, not the full salary?

Every contract is different. Eaves, for example, has a buyout that is his current yearly salary x4, or whatever is left on his term, whichever is less. Currently he has four years remaining on his deal, and Wisconsin extends it by one season every summer. Firing Eaves right now would = aprox $1.5 Million .

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol XXV: There's Hope! Or whatever...

At this point we know...

Mersch: Back
Zengz: Back
McCabe: Back
Woods: Gone

Questions...

Barnes: PROBABLY back, I'd be shocked if he went (90%)
Kerdiles: Probably back (75%)

Everyone else (Labate, Wittchow, Faust, etc) SHOULD be back.

That's a pretty solid roster when you add in Zully and Besse up front.

Please don't extend him this summer.....wake up and smell the rink Barry.

they wont be extending his contract this summer but if he has a great B6 season and hits another ncaa tourney then an extension wil be in order

There has never been stability with assistants since Eaves has been here.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol XXV: There's Hope! Or whatever...

Went to the KC today to talk to someone about business and got a nice tour. Saw the new locker room and facilities, got to go in Bo's office (he wasn't there), went to the hockey office and got to meet Eaves. Was fun.

Eaves was very personable. Looked me right in the eye when he shook my hand, remembered my name when we left after 10 minutes of chat. He's got that stuff down, which I'm sure are essential skills for someone in his position.

I told him that as a fan, winning the Broadmoor was a lot of fun and was nice to see the team accomplish that. He said it was great for "the boys" :) to get that done after all they had gone through.

The guy I was meeting mentioned something about surprised how good Lowell was and Eaves kinda skirted that and I got the impression that he feels the same way about that game as we did/do. That the Badgers simply didn't have it that day and that Lowell certainly wasn't that much better than us. He said nothing to that effect - I'm just reading the situation, fwiw.

The new locker room seems to me to be the same as the old. The difference lies in the surrounding facilities - the hot & cold tub room, the players lounge (with ping pong table, sectional couches, a flatscreen and 2 acoustic guitars), the video room complete with stadium seating, the traininer's/medical room etc... - all top notch.

I also enjoyed the memorabilia they had on the walls - all of the alternate jerseys, a wall dedicated to players who have been in the NHL, various team photos. When you're down there, you're immersed in Badger Hockey. Very cool.

I thought it'd be tacky if I shot pictures, so sorry, nothing to share in that regards.

Probably the most enjoyable business meeting I've had in a long time. :)

Pretty cool. So you just couldn't bring yourself to say "I want you fired!" Ok, I understand you were trying to get some financial gain for your company and saying that might have hurt your chances. ;)

Lowell....I recall reading or hearing Eaves say that UW hadn't played like that all year, that they (the players) did things they (the coaches) hadn't seen all year. Too bad they tried to do too much when if they had just played their system to their abilities the end result may have been more favorable.

Yeah, I wasn't there representing our little thread today. ;) The financial gain would be for the KC though as we'd be paying them.

Eaves was actually very engaging and when you meet these people, you are reminded that there is a living, breathing person inside that shell of athlete, coach, whatever.

I'm actually optimistic about next season and if it goes well, I'm willing to cut a little more slack.

If you're paying them, as in sponsoring, then YOU are in control. "Yeah, I'll sign a 3 yr deal with you, but BA and Eaves have to go first."

Living breathing....I had the same thought as I read your original post. This guy just isn't some neanderthal from west of the Mississippi, but a real person.

I am brimming with optimism as well.

This point seems lost on a lot of people on message boards, twitter, etc. I appreciate you saying this.

It's a good lesson for many of us (including me) to try and keep in mind.

Hell, I might even like you if we met in person. :p:D
