Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol XXV: There's Hope! Or whatever...

There are too many fallacies in regards to the Big Ten over the past 48 hours of this thread to correct. Hilarious how off the deep end one will go to spew an agenda onto others.

OK ye of little hockey knowledge...the last 6 weeks of the badger hockey season were some the most exciting weeks of badger hockey i've ever been around and that is over 30 yrs of following this team including only missing 5 wach tournies in its entire existance......if bt hockey is so high and mighty tell me what wisconsin is gonna have to do year in and year out to qualify for the lowly bt hockey tourney...are they gonna have to beat st Cloud in the last game of the year to secure home ice...are they gonna have to win their 1st round on the home ice to make the tourney....tell me ye of little hockey knowledge how much fun will it be to go to a tourney you dont have to qualify to get into.....the only fallicies are those who think the bt hockey league is a good idea

They sell beer at TCF Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, even in general seating areas. The Minny state legislature was also considering selling beer at Mariucci and Williams, though I don't know if they ever passed that bill. And I'm pretty sure there are other facilities that sell beer -- Nippert Stadium in Cincinnati, for example, and recently West Virginia. So it doesn't seem to be an NCAA rule. I know the NCAA doesn't sell beer at its tournaments and championship events, so maybe that's the rule.

That said, beer sales ain't happening at the Kohl. No the eff way. The school is waaay too concerned with the binge-drinking image.

I can't tell if I have a six year old responding to me or an adult. I'll assume a six year old.

I believe that the Big Ten guideline prohibits selling alcohol to the general public in non-premium seats. The MN state legislature got involved and passed a law that said no alcohol for anyone unless everyone has access. The big donors who purchased the premium seats didn't like the idea of no alcohol and they had enough financial clout to get the university and conference to allow limited alcohol access to everyone but the number of drinks is strictly limited. So basically short of the Wisconsin State Legislature passing a law mandating that alcohol be availible it isn't going to be.

Imagine if 118-119 (the back of it anyway) was like the student section, but for non-students. Just another standing section. Rubber chickens and stuff! No need for beer during the game!

I wouldn't put it past them...especially the current batch.

The University of Minnesota sold nearly $1 million in beer and wine at TCF Bank Stadium last year — and lost money.

Only in Minnesota!

kind of funny you cant give the answer what its gonna take for the badgers to qualify for the so called B6 hockey tournament but you're great at insulting and calling other names....schwartz you already got one hockey blog thrown off the internet and time and time again you prove you have very little to no knowledge of badger hockey...time for you to grow up buddy and join us in the real world

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol XXV: There's Hope! Or whatever...

You didn't have to qualify for the WCHA tournament.
I don't want to defend our gramatically-challenged friend, but in terms of getting to the final round of the conference tourney, i.e. the Final Five, the WCHA had qualification in terms of the first-round series whereas all 6 teams will make it to the B1G tourney.

Not going to follow you down the rabbit hole. Have fun.

correct on that but you had to qualify to go the F5 in St Paul....now you dont have to qualify for the B6 tournament, so it takes all the emotion out of the conference play....so where will the fun be if you're not in the hunt for the B6 regular season title....you win you lose you're in

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol XXV: There's Hope! Or whatever...

I think when people talk about serving beer and wish the UW would go back to that, they are really missing the social scene of the beer garden, not the alcohol. Back during the Dane County Coliseum years, having Saturday night hockey tickets was a whole social experience. You would have your group of friends to go out and get something to eat before the game and have a few beers. Then you go to the game. Between periods you could go down into the beer garden and see 40, 50 different people you know, have a beer, talk hockey, talk about what your doing later that night, socialize, meet fans from the other teams, etc. It was a blast. And then you got to see a good hockey game to boot. Now you go down into the causeway around your seats and maybe talk to one or two people you know. Its just not the same social scene anymore - even when they tried to sell beer in the KC in the blue line club.

Now, the way things work, the only reason to buy season tickets is to preserve your seat. And that is awfully pricey. Two years ago my season tix cost me $24/game (I think) for seats on the blue line in row 1 on third deck. My ideal seats. Lets assume 12 tickets for the Saturday night package. That cost us $288 per seat. People sitting right next to me paid $10 a seat on the 4 for $40 deal all year long. Over 12 games thats $120/seat or $168 savings. Are those seats worth $168 x 4 seats = $672? Plus the UW bought them a hot dog and coke. Since we almost never sell out, tickets are always available and I can fit them into my schedule instead of building my schedule around season tickets (in other words, we see the games we want to see). And we never have to sell tickets we cant use at a $14/ticket loss.

Next year I predict we will average < 6500 in paid attendance, and that number might be too high. Loss of the social scene, switch to Sunday/Monday, people realizing how much money they are throwing away on season tickets, a not that exciting brand of hockey, all add up to be bad news for the program.

Just so we're clear, people understand there is only going to be only one, MAYBE two non-Friday/Saturday series next season, right?

Wow, that might be the stupidest thing I have ever read on this board.
