WISCONSIN Hockey Vol. XXIV - Craziest Season Of All Time

Re: WISCONSIN Hockey Vol. XXIV - Craziest Season Of All Time

It's amazing to think of how little you would have to change from our schedule to make us eligible for an at-large bid.

Basically, a tie on Friday would've done it. A combination of a few other series where we get an extra point here or there would have done it as well.

Re: WISCONSIN Hockey Vol. XXIV - Craziest Season Of All Time

Nice job on the win against us last night badgers. Congrats on getting home ice. Wish we could've claimed the mac cup the second night for ourselves but hey I mean it probably would've been in bemidji with the gophers anyways hahaha. Both games were both hard fought and it seemed proper for a split. Watched them on tv and if I don't say so myself, these games were extremely boring to watch (probably had a bit to do with the ice sheet size) but I don't think either team could be disappointed with the results. Good luck in the playoffs

Re: WISCONSIN Hockey Vol. XXIV - Craziest Season Of All Time

Barring an incredible comeback, it looks like the Badgers will be playing Minnesota-Duluth from the 4 seed.

Re: WISCONSIN Hockey Vol. XXIV - Craziest Season Of All Time

That's unfortunate. I can only assume that doing well against CC would have done us a lot more PWR favors than doing well against UMD in the WCHA playoffs.

Either way, it's perhaps safe to say that our destiny lies in our ability to do something meaningful in the Final Five.

Wisconsin has a better chance to advance against UMD than they do against CC. Plus, CC has to go to Denver this weekend so UW fans just became Pioneer fans as well.

Why do you say that, it appears that UMD is playing much improved hockey recently.

Re: WISCONSIN Hockey Vol. XXIV - Craziest Season Of All Time

It's a sad reality Solo, us NCAA Hockey fans will always be in the minority, especially when it comes to football and the Big.

it wasn't like that with Pat Richter though so we've seen AD's in the past who *at least* acknowledge other sports if not help promote them, it was under his watch that the Badger Hockey Showdown was initiated, etc.

Such a tricky situation, he is loved by many in WI for his football program and recognized nationally for those same reasons. The ship will right itself, thats a good program with a good fanbase, just a whacky season.

So from an outsider's view, seems like eaves will get another year? On paper, would you expect the team to be better or worse next year?

For one, UMD's goaltenders can't be trusted. Aaron Crandall is awful, and it isn't as if McNeely has been lights out either. Crandall does have two shutouts in his past two starts, but one came against a terrible Huntsville team, and the other against a UNO team that has basically given up. Even with the two shutouts, Crandall's Sv % is under .900.

Joe Howe for CC may be inconsistent, but he's better than what UMD has to offer at this point, and I'll take my chances against Crandall and McNeely.

Despite fan controversy here and elsewhere, I'm not sure there was or is much doubt Mike Eaves will be at the helm next year unless he chose to leave for a different job. As far as next year's team I'd think the Badgers will be expected to be a top ten, maybe even top five team. That is barring departures, of course. There are a couple of guys who could leave if they chose to, I think.

The only reason I'd rather have played CC is the chance to push them off the TUC cliff. DU is in the NCAA's and who knows which DU team shows up against CC? We really need CC to go away fast. Having said that, and although UMD has been getting it together the last couple weeks, I feel pretty good about the Badger's chances. Team is playing it's best hockey of the year by far. I never thought in December I'd be saying this, but WI is pretty good. If there were still smoky backroom selections to the NCAA's I'd have a tough time leaving them out the way they've played recently.

Re: WISCONSIN Hockey Vol. XXIV - Craziest Season Of All Time

Welcome UMD to Madison next weekend!

Cool. May be the last time we see UMD for a bit?

My younger son's been bugging me about going to another game this season so home ice is sweet. Don't think we've been to one since maybe January.

Badgers in 3?

Have. No. Idea.

Re: WISCONSIN Hockey Vol. XXIV - Craziest Season Of All Time

I like how the PRW takes a lot of the ambiguity out of the selection process, but I am not a fan of how games in October and early November - in a sport with really no exhibition season - can really cost a team. The basketball Badgers can play UW-Stout or other in-state D3 schools to be ready for their non-conf schedule....the badger skaters don't have that luxury.

I know, other hockey teams don't have it either - but this year it is really screwing us.

I don't see why that's a problem. If you're going to play a game, it might as well count.

Big rivalry though, CC's 7 fans would be able to hang that 1st round exit over DU's head all off season, and since CC won't be dancing they won't have much else to brag about.
