Re: Wisconsin Hockey: Vol. XX - Growth Through Experience

yes, I don't think the outcome will be pretty but I don't feel the need to come out and have to say UW will get their tails kicked in multiple threads especially when there is a very specific thread for the topic of this weekends games

and ugh, as in, I don't want to think about dropping two to the rats any more than possible, but it's becoming a prevailing thought in regard to the two games I'll be at

He predicted a split, unless my eyes are bad.

Great win for the boys tonight. A lot of hustle that I don't think MINN was expecting. First line is just pouring on the offense and nice to see Meuer score to. Go for the sweep tomorrow boys.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey: Vol. XX - Growth Through Experience

great win tonight. good for the confidence and just good to see some guys gain more experience w/Lee and McCabe out, especially by playing the top team in the country (IMO, only BC to this point can argue that).

I'm really liking some unsung players improvement thusfar: Faust and Meuer in particular

frosh not named Rumpel or LaBate that are really impressing me lately are Brendan Woods and Matte Paape.

I still haven't seen enough of Daly or Navin to know much about their games

here's to another great game tomorrow. this time in my normal seats!

You're spot on with this comment. Both are playing much better than was expected. Woods has more skill than I had anticipated and Paape is just slippery.

that's just it. Woods is a great stick-handler from what I've seen (and I'll admit I didn't know what type of player he was coming in, but...) and shows some pretty good anticipation.

Paape just seems to have a nose for the puck and knows (no pun intended) how to get open in the slot (I think I saw him allude defenders and camp out in prime space in the slot about 3-4 times tonight)

Re: Wisconsin Hockey: Vol. XX - Growth Through Experience

Was Schultz baked tonight? Very off-kilter at times.

Does anybody else have concerns about Springer? Even taking tonight's inexcusable clearing pass away, I haven't been impressed to this point.

Faust didn't have a crisp game.

Whole team looked like they were skating in slush.

Close you eyes and imagine this with me... 4 years of Rumpel. :D

my .02
Springer is a no go, I just think he's too slow to handle the nodaks and mns of the world
Faust is solid but maybe had an off night
the whole team was skating in slush because they aren't good enough to hang w/MN right now plain and simple. let's be brutally honest here, they need more skaters and stick-handlers to do that.

while I think UW *could* be a top 4-6 wcha team by the end of the year if Barnes/Zengerle/LaBate/Mersch/Paape/Woods continue their trajectories, they won't crack the top 3 in terms of play because MN/CC/Du can overall skate circles around UW. and tonight was just lesson #1. CC/DU still have their say coming up. then MN again in Feb

You must be Wisconsin's version of ScoobyDoo.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey: Vol. XX - Growth Through Experience

I'm trying to see the glass as 1/2 full but...but... 35-13 outshot, and if could see the stat for attack zone time MN vs. WI I'd have to guess it was similarly about 3 or 4 to 1. ugh

It was one bad game, that Wisconsin played without two of their best players (Lee and McCabe) and was still tied 1-1 before losing their third best forward (Mersch) for the entire third period. This coming after a game where Wisconsin out-played the #1 team in the country. I don't understand the pessimism personally.

I get really pessimistic after losses to the gophs or blow-outs like st. cloud. I get pessimistic x2 when the gophs don't just beat UW but dominate like they did for most of last night.

especially when I see things like a race to a loose puck and a rat player starting 1/2 to 1 full stride behind 2 UW players is able to catch them, pass them and get the puck. that's getting the doors blown off.

bad night I know, not fun to watch

Precisely how us Goph fans felt Fri night...

Re: Wisconsin Hockey: Vol. XX - Growth Through Experience

A comment that came in response to svf's rant in the thread about the series with Minny was to note teams going onto the north end zone during football games. My thought: when is that ever a distraction in the game? No one in CR is ever going to be more interested in the women's crew team. Sadly, parading the perennially overrated football team at the KC is going to be more interesting to 80% of our fans than anything that happens on the ice at any given time.

Therefore, I see a huge difference between the two situations. Given the huge moneymaking power of football, I guess I understand enabling the many hockey fans who secretly wish they were at CR, but it still kind of just acts to reinforce the secondary/tertiary citizen status of the only revenue team on campus that wins titles.

I guess it makes me sad more than angry- since despite his conflict of interest, I can't blame Alvarez for encouraging this sort of environment.
