Re: Wisconsin Hockey: Vol. XVIII - Belief in a Better Tomorrow

For those that haven't been by the Kohl Center in a while, I was riding the ol' bicycle by there on Saturday and snapped a few shots of the construction of La Bahn Arena.

I'm hearing Jason Clark had hip surgery and will be out until November"ish". Also sounds like Jake McCabe has impressed with his play this summer in Madison. I'm also hearing players are impressed with Paape's skill level even though he was used as a fourth line guy in Sioux City.

Glad to hear that freshmen are doing well, sucks Clark will be out for start of season but does give someone else ability to play early.

that's disappointing about Jason Clark. I hope he can recover fully and get a shot at a top 4-line position. I certainly think he's got the talent to at least be a consistent 3rd line type of player

re: Paape, that's REALLY good to hear

TV question, hope someone can help. My parents live in Western Wisconsin and are thinking about switching from Charter to one of the satellite services. My Dad is concerned about watching Badger hockey. Obviously the FSN games are fine but what about the games that are listed as TVW/WISC or whatever? Anyone with satellite get those games? Thanks in advance.

I have dish network, if was not on The BTN or FSN I could not find the games anywhere. So either dish network sucks (for Badger hockey
), or I'm blind.

When I went to satelite, I had a large rotary antenna mounted on the house primarily so I could rotate it to the North and catch the Madison channels for Badger hockey. I'm an hour South of Madison in Illinois and can catch all the digital local channels. Over the long haul, by not having to pay the satelite company the $5 a month for locals, you'll pay for a real nice antenna and give yourself some viewing options when you hit that occasional thunderstorm that knocks out the satelite signal.

Per Markwojo's reply. I live outside Oregon and have both DirecTV and an antenna for the local digital channels. I think the combination gives you the maximum coverage of the Badgers. My only question would be the terrain in western Wisconsin. While Markwojo's line from northern Illinois to Madison is relatively flat, southwestern Wisconsin can be very hilly. That's where my family is from, and believe me, unless you're high on a ridge, you don't pick up squat from an antenna. Just something to consider.

Interviewed Jason Clark about the hip injury rumors. Turns out he was playing with a torn labrum in his left hip. He ended up having surgery on both hips this summer but is hoping to be full go for the start of the season October 7th. LINK

Also, I appreciate the reply's from Carter and Mark.

USA Hockey trimmed their WJC Camp roster from 40 to 29 today. Mersch didn't make the cut. Will still be evaluated throughout the season. Remember two years ago Ramage wasn't even invited to this camp and still made the roster after a great first half. Although it looks like for the first time in like 10 years Wisconsin won't be sending a representative to the World Juniors.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey: Vol. XVIII - Belief in a Better Tomorrow

Howdy folks...

I'm a Northern Michigan fan who is planning on attending Opening Weekend in October... I was wondering if I could get some hotel advice from y'all :)

I just did a search on Kayak.com and the only hotel it shows around the "campus" area is the DoubleTree Inn at a staggering $186/night for Oct. 7th-9th.... No other hotels along the strip between Lake Mendota & Lake Menona are available... Next closest hotels are west of Campus along Highway 12/14... Those are chaper, starting around $100/night... Overall, I was just wondering why the prices were so high, considering it's a non-football weekend... I figured the usual $60-75/night hockey trip budget would suffice...

Also, what are the location differences between the two... We would like to be somewhere where we can make it out for food & drinks on foot if possible... Plan on checking out the infamous State Street as well... Easy access to the Kohl is also wanted... Any advice or other things that we should note for this trip?

Thanks in advance

Re: Wisconsin Hockey: Vol. XVIII - Belief in a Better Tomorrow

I usually bid on Priceline for 3.5* downtown zone in the $50-55 range. I almost always get a room on nonfootball weekends. There seem to be only 3 hotels that come up in that zone and star rating....the Hilton, Councourse & Govenors Club, and (comes up most often for me when I bid) the Hyatt. First two are walkable (probably a 15-20 minute walk) to the Kohl, especially if you take the slight detour route down State street and make sure you are properly hydrated by making a few reststops. The Hyatt is a couple miles down the road on Nolan and quite a stretch to walk.

This board is lame right now. What incoming freshman are you guys most looking forward to watching this season?

Chase Drake. Not because I expect him to light the world on fire, but he is from my home town. (Also not technically a freshman either).

Joseph LaBate - Can't wait for him to be a bust and show Eaves why he should stop going after Lucia's rejects! Of course you can't blame Eaves because our 4th tier players are better than anything that comes out of Wisconsin not named Kessel.
