Wisconsin Hockey: Vol. XVIII - Belief in a Better Tomorrow

Re: Wisconsin Hockey: Vol. XVIII - Belief in a Better Tomorrow

Oh, so you were just talking about the Gophers. You see, you said "Minnesota". Unlike "Wisconsin", there are numerous D1 schools that play within our borders. You got to be clear big guy.

Now, you're classifying our Gopher squads as "sh*tty". What does that make your program? Irrelevant? Totally agree!

Had a dog once who chased his tail all the time. Put him down out of pity.

Sorry Badger fans for puking on your thread.

Spare me. You made the comment, stand behind it. And this whole thing started because someone got butt hurt by some good natured ribbing. I'm sorry, but I think it's laughable when a Wisconsin hockey fan tries to tell me which championships I should value and which of my programs traditions I should cherish.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey: Vol. XVIII - Belief in a Better Tomorrow

Almington - Sorry dude, I was just ribbing you in good nature. Never meant for this to turn into what it has, but I won't apologize for what I value about my favorite program. I'm a Minnesota hockey guy above all else. I hope you underdtand that, even if you don't agree with some of what I've said.

Meh, I'm just confused to why you're apologizing to me? I don't care what you believe, count the pre-NCAA championship or not, doesn't matter to me how far in the past you want to live. No other program has more NCAA championships since 1963 than the Badger, no one. Embrace MN's hockey culture, enjoy it all you can, MN has a special connection with the game but once Bernie is done with it, the community model will be a thing of the past. Playing in MN doesn't give any player a better chance of playing D1 hockey, more and more recruits are coming from non-traditional locations and playing D1 hockey will always be a very long shot regardless of where you develop as a player. Anyway, Canadian players are vastly superior to Minnesota players (at least according to PigRink) so MN can never be expected to win anything ever again until they bring in more Canadians like UND and UW.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey: Vol. XVIII - Belief in a Better Tomorrow

A Minnesota team just won the national championship, or doesn't that one count for some reason either? Sconnie logic, got to love it.

Aren't you a Gopher fan? Or do you get to celebrate all hockey titles won by the state schools also?

Oh yeah and while Burd lives here, he's a Nodak fan, so "Sconnie logic" doesn't apply to him. To which I'm sure he'd say, "Thank God!"

Love new posters like you. All full of **** and vinegar. Keep it coming coz we're not quite up to speed on this Minnesota hockey culture that you speak of. You know, coz 50 other guys just like you haven't been on these boards spouting the same drivel over the years.

And like Duluth. They had at least 6 Canadian players last year. I would go so far as to say that Duluth doesn't win the title without Canadian help.

Oh yeah well... dead deer, paint thinner, dead deer, paint thinner, dead deer, paint thinner

Take that. ;)

In the summer even...

I was just joking around with you, and that's how this whole thing started. I agree with the premise that more and more players are coming from non-traditional markets. I think you're kidding yourself if you think that Minnesota won't continue to produce more players than a vast majority of US markets into the forseeable future.

My point was, there is a far better chance that the good athletes in Minnesota will play hockey than the good athletes in Wisconsin. Despite a smaller population size, Minnesota has 2.5 times the number of registered players.

I'm not exactly a new poster. I've posted here off and on for 5+ years. I just don't live here. Though statements like that are a true sign of not having anything of real substance to say.

If you don't want this type of discussion, you shouldn't try an tell us which championships we should and should not value, and which aspects of our program's history and tradition we should should and should not be proud of.

So keep digging. We both know I'm spot on :)

Where is your scoring going to come from this season? I haven't heard much about your freshman class but I don't think any of your first liners listed above hit double digits in goal scoring although Zengerle had quite a few assists. Are your 'tenders in order of talent or is that just a list?

I assume Rumpel is the projected starter. From what I have heard, there are some pretty high expectations for him.

I do value the 5 NCAA championships the Gophers have. But as hard as you try and ignore this fact, hockey was played at the collegiate level (at least by our program it consistently was) prior to 1948. And I value that history too.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey: Vol. XVIII - Belief in a Better Tomorrow

Please, stop. We both know 70% of your fanbase doesn't know the meaning of the term or why they are chanting it.

This is from Webster's New International Internet Dictionary:

1. (Engineering / Tools) a device for separating lumps from powdered material, straining liquids, grading particles, etc., consisting of a container with a mesh or perforated bottom through which the material is shaken or poured
2. Rare a person who gossips and spreads secrets
3. Slang a goalie playing against the University of Wisconsin (USA) Men's hockey team

It's right there in black and white.

On the non-educational front, UW's incoming recruiting class is ranked 6th, and Rumpel is a stud-a-licious tender. Fear the Rumpel Rink. Now I'm not saying UW is going to win the WCHA or anything, but home ice and a ncaa tourney bid are reasonable expectations. If Smith stays it's a different story.

Ha, Ha, Ha (bolded above). :)

I do agree with you that Rumpel is going to be a good goaltender. I hope he isn't, but it would be less than honest if I said I didn't think he would be. As for expectations, after watching the Gophers play well under their potential for the last 4+ years, I have learned that what you have on paper doesn't always translate to production on the ice. That goes both ways. On paper you lost a lot of your scoring, but I don't think anyone is counting Wisconsin out this season.

Yes, because the gophers returning players are so flush w/ returning scoring that the rest of the WCHA has already forfeited all games against them this season out of fear. Or will the overrated Seth Ambroz scored 45 goals this season?

No doubt the Badgers don't have a lot of obvious offensive punch coming back at forward, but go crawl back into your hole since your team of "top six guys in MN," who Lucia has worked hard to **** away their talent, don't strike fear into anyone right now.
