I'm sorry, but I think it's laughable when a Wisconsin hockey fan tries to tell me which championships I should value and which of my programs traditions I should cherish.

Meh, I'm just confused to why you're apologizing to me? I don't care what you believe, count the pre-NCAA championship or not, doesn't matter to me how far in the past you want to live. No other program has more NCAA championships since 1963 than the Badger, no one. Embrace MN's hockey culture, enjoy it all you can, MN has a special connection with the game but once Bernie is done with it, the community model will be a thing of the past. Playing in MN doesn't give any player a better chance of playing D1 hockey, more and more recruits are coming from non-traditional locations and playing D1 hockey will always be a very long shot regardless of where you develop as a player. Anyway, Canadian players are vastly superior to Minnesota players (at least according to PigRink) so MN can never be expected to win anything ever again until they bring in more Canadians like UND and UW.

And like Duluth. They had at least 6 Canadian players last year. I would go so far as to say that Duluth doesn't win the title without Canadian help.

I was just joking around with you, and that's how this whole thing started. I agree with the premise that more and more players are coming from non-traditional markets. I think you're kidding yourself if you think that Minnesota won't continue to produce more players than a vast majority of US markets into the forseeable future.

My point was, there is a far better chance that the good athletes in Minnesota will play hockey than the good athletes in Wisconsin. Despite a smaller population size, Minnesota has 2.5 times the number of registered players.

I'm not exactly a new poster. I've posted here off and on for 5+ years. I just don't live here. Though statements like that are a true sign of not having anything of real substance to say.

Where is your scoring going to come from this season? I haven't heard much about your freshman class but I don't think any of your first liners listed above hit double digits in goal scoring although Zengerle had quite a few assists. Are your 'tenders in order of talent or is that just a list?

I do value the 5 NCAA championships the Gophers have. But as hard as you try and ignore this fact, hockey was played at the collegiate level (at least by our program it consistently was) prior to 1948. And I value that history too.

On the non-educational front, UW's incoming recruiting class is ranked 6th, and Rumpel is a stud-a-licious tender. Fear the Rumpel Rink. Now I'm not saying UW is going to win the WCHA or anything, but home ice and a ncaa tourney bid are reasonable expectations. If Smith stays it's a different story.

I do agree with you that Rumpel is going to be a good goaltender. I hope he isn't, but it would be less than honest if I said I didn't think he would be. As for expectations, after watching the Gophers play well under their potential for the last 4+ years, I have learned that what you have on paper doesn't always translate to production on the ice. That goes both ways. On paper you lost a lot of your scoring, but I don't think anyone is counting Wisconsin out this season.

Yes, because the gophers returning players are so flush w/ returning scoring that the rest of the WCHA has already forfeited all games against them this season out of fear. Or will the overrated Seth Ambroz scored 45 goals this season?

No doubt the Badgers don't have a lot of obvious offensive punch coming back at forward, but go crawl back into your hole since your team of "top six guys in MN," who Lucia has worked hard to **** away their talent, don't strike fear into anyone right now.
