Re: Wisconsin Hockey Part 2 - No Silly Eaves-isms, Just Win The Title!

I think the fact that Eaves came back with Goody in a kind of must win game shows he's the #1. Now he didn't play great either nights, so I would expect to see both play this weekend and then have Goody take the rodents and whoever else from that point on.

I am afraid with the late season inconsistancies, this team looks to be a tad tourney flawed. Losing Friday was bad in that they played so badly early on, then kind of mailed it in from what the anouncers said. That is very troubling. This team has enough offensive firepower that they should have made a game of it like the Saturday CC game, especially at home. Even Saturday there were some shifts in the 3rd period where the guys took it easy and St. Cloud scored.

Positives....Stephan has indeed returned from Canada. Great to see all lines kick into the scoring sheet Saturday.

Wisconsin Hockey: No more shifts or nights off!

Because we play them in the Final series of the season so if we sweep, it helps, right?

Only if by getting swept they stay in the TUC. A sweep may drop them back out. Either way I don't think it matters, by being a TUC it only helps others also. Moot point.

It was great to see every senior on the scoresheet with at least one point.

Meanwhile, CC is down to 17th so is this a young team that ran out of gas or are they just coming back to earth?

My family lives in Colorado Springs and I guess CC has a bunch of freshman goalies; one fresh goalies left mid-season to play Major Juniors, so CC brought in another freshman mid-season. I'm only guessing that the goalie issue has something to do with CC's drop based on the number of goals they are allowing.

Kind of right. I think they've stuck with the freshman Joe Howe all season. He started well, and we all knew he was going to come back to Earth. I think he's fallen a little harder than I thought he would though.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Part 2 - No Silly Eaves-isms, Just Win The Title!

That game had to be a goalie coach's nightmare. Both guys weren't on their games.

Our goaltending was addressed in a couple of posts...we've got to build that brick wall now fellas. There were obvious weird bounces, but some goals by SCSU shouldn't have been. The one that stands out is of course in the 2nd period where a shot from **** near behind the goal line hits Guddy in the shoulder & drops in the net. I know our 'tenders are very good, but we've got to be consistent!!

I don't care how crappy Tech is, I want Goody in there every game from now on unless he completely collapses. I think he needs to get into a good rhythm of playing back-to-back nights.

I don't know. I thought I wanted the same thing too but Guddy did not look good this weekend.

Yeah, I'm re-evaluating now too. I think Bennett deserves at least one start. I would try him Friday, then play Guddy on Saturday, and if he does well, ride him the rest of the way.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Part 2 - No Silly Eaves-isms, Just Win The Title!

Looking ahead... IF we sweep Tech and split with Minn. ST. Cloud Sweeps Minn St. we would both be at 37 points. What are the tiebreaks between us and St. Cloud?

head-to-head (tied) then goals in those games. In which we are down by one goal, so SCSU has the tie-breaker with UW.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Part 2 - No Silly Eaves-isms, Just Win The Title!

I'm a little confused by the commitment to go with Gudy now, this weekend. I think picking a goalie to stick with down the stretch is a fine decision, but if we were going to pick Gudy and stick with him, why did we go back to the rotation for last weekend against Mankato only to play Gudy back to back after a less than great Friday now? I would've thought last weekend, against a somewhat less challenging opponent, would have been the time to let Gudy settle start settling into a full time starting groove.

We're still in a decent position; I'm not concerned about what crazy scenario might allow us to catch Denver, I just want to see us stick in the top 3 of the WCHA and maintain a good PWR.

I am a little unsettled that our last couple of wins came out of scoring a ton of goals to make up for letting the other team score several of their own. Scoring a ton of goals is great, but I'd rather not see us give up 4ish goals a game.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Part 2 - No Silly Eaves-isms, Just Win The Title!

Overall, Goody's body of work is better than Bennett's. And Bennett isn't really pressuring Goody with his game play as of late. Goody is still the guy, he's has to get his head on straight. Fast. Hopefully Tech will be just the medicine he needs. I really can't see Bennett doing something so great @ Tech to warrant the playofff spot. We'll see.

This team seems less committed to D as the 2006 team. Clear guys out, force them wide on the rush, play the backside defensive responsibilites better. There's no way a guy like Roe should just be able to park at the backdoor and hammer it in.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Part 2 - No Silly Eaves-isms, Just Win The Title!

What a disappointing weekend. Even Saturday. This team does not have the defense or goaltending to be a serious tournament threat, IMO.

The league has to do something about Marvin before he puts someone in a wheelchair.

Do we know prognosis on Geoffrion?

That's what I said in the 3rd Sunday night...that 2006 team probably won 95% of the games in which they scored 3 goals, let alone 7. Just like they play way too nonchalantly after they get up by a couple goals, like they're just happy to be there and have the lead.
