Wisconsin Hockey 24-25 Improving With All Due Haste.

We are on the business end now. Must sweep. No exceptions, no excuses. No individuals. Team and pride and all for the name on the front of the sweater!

And...we are all Michigan Tech, Colgate, and Merrimack fans this weekebd as well! Let's get this done!

Sloppy, but got it done tonight. Need to refine everything and have a surgical strike tomorrow. Did a little pairwise customizer tonight after the game, and if Wisconsin had beaten Anchorage & Lindenwood, they would be at #13 right now. That's how important those non-conference games are when it comes to pairwise. People seem to think they are uninteresting or low vis games and poo poo them, but clearly they make a major difference, and set the table.

If Horbach is really a top 4 d, that's a problem. Sure didn't look like it last night in the flesh. Malone is sneaky good. Morrissey can snipe, hopefully he's around for 3 years.

How about Hensler's 'assist' on that Long Island goal? Hands the puck off to opponent on the goal doorstep and slides behind the net. Another brutal play in front of our net.

Went back and watched the condensed game. Horbach just completely whiffed on his pass from the defensive blue line which led to the TO and goal. And Hensler clearly tried to walk right across in front of his own net to try and evade the forecheck, where he should have turned towards the boards. Either way, both those mistakes are fundamental/awareness miscues that just cannot happen.

Either way, all gas, no brakes tonight. Need a dominating win and the blue liners need to put together a righteous effort. We gained another spot in Pairwise last night thanks to UMass losing. Hopefully we get some more help this evening!

Long Island University basically dictated the 3rd period to the Badgers. A tie and then we won the shootout. The tie is a killer.

By now there is lots of tape on this team. If you put pressure on them they go into a shell. LIU did that a lot of the game, and really dialed it up in the third. Be prepared for this the rest of the year. Until they can prove they can beat that pressure (especially breaking out of the zone), they're going to see a lot more of it and are not going to be very successful.

I’m not expecting them to get into position to be in the tournament but I think ending the season with a winning record would be a positive after the way they started.

I’d also like to see them play a good second game of a series once in awhilew - this Jekyll/Hyde act is a bit puzzling.

17 in the Pairwise after that debacle. Amazingly at this point. Everything is still in front of them if they go on a run. Shades of 07-08!

Gassed again in the second and third period of the second game. Are they conditioned as well as the team’s they are playing? Listening to the podcast of Stramel and the Wild guys I have to wonder. I will keep this belief until proven otherwise.

I'm not convinced the UW staff doesn't know how to train up the boys to play 6 periods a weekend when all the non Fr. guys having been doing it for year(s) with UW or other teams. IMHO, they get sucked into an effort deficit and they lack the mentality to quickly kick it back up that notch they need to to compete at the highest level. That one game with MSU they got better as the game went on. In game 2 Saturday they got dominated for a huge part of the 3rd, then they clawed back to where they needed to be. It's extremely frustrating see them in a tied game in the 3rd period and just go through the motions for over half of that period. I'm coming around to that idea of this is who they are this season and I don't expect them to figure it out.

I don't necessarily disagree with you, but I suggest you watch the Stramel interview that was posted earlier. He talked about "changing his body" over the summer once getting on at MSU. you can watch that here: https://youtu.be/NX7ojAf_EYM?si=GU0mbYHG4eBHQM8v&t=2154 Now he is second in points on the 2nd rated team and +13. Just food for thought.

This Week: 1/24/25 Michigan 7 PM B1G+, 1/25/25 7:30 PM BTN

Next Week: 1/31/25 at Minnesota 7 PM B1G+, 2/1/25 at Minnesota 5 PM B1G+

Home ice still in the cards (with Michigan and Ohio State). Likely need to make hay against Michigan this weekend. I think 4 or 5 of 6 points is the need, sweep the goal. One win will give the season series to the Badgers with 4 of 6 points won back in December. Still waiting for that complete 120 minutes over the weekend.
