Wisconsin Hockey 2018-2019: We can have a witty thread title when we start winning

Idea for next season, replace Strobel with Steve Reinprecht.
You've got to start somewhere. Right now, I'd go with ANY options. There is no sure thing. It cannot get worse, although they played well last night.

Very interesting! We all know he's a volunteer in Denver, but would he take a paying job at his alma mater? All due respect to D.U., I would.

Refresh my memory: Do we know for sure who is in charge of coaching the PK? Is it still OZ, or may they have shifted things over to Strobel since both are D guys? Another thought, re: no goaltending coach. Understand the NCAA rules are ridiculous, and we need a volunteer coach. But, might we be better off using one of the full time assistant slots for a goaltending coach? That puts more duties on the head coach/other assistant (Granato/Oz); but, I would Granato is heavily involved in the offense/systems anyway. Let the volunteer/part-timer be a face-off specialist.
Ohio State has Dave Caruso as a volunteer assistant coach. He was our goalie who won the CCHA tournament in '04 and worked as a goaltending coach in the Jersey Devils organization. Agreed that you've GOT to get a specialist in this position these days!

They already have Winchester as a volunteer, I would guess he'd be more likely than Rhino, but in the end I want someone with experience. They need coaching bad.

If they choose Reinprecht they better be **** sure he can do the job. Right now the coaching staff feels like a UW Alum hang out group without having to do anything and that ****es me off so much as a fan. If they take a chance on someone I hope it’s not a UW alum, which I’m beginning to question was the only reason Strobel was hired.

The whole concept of the coaches have to be alumni is a horrible idea. Get the best, most qualified guy you can find. I don't care if they are a sueboy or a rodent.

Dave Hakstol? ;) Dude had a helluva run at NoDak and would probably still be in Greater Grand Forks if the Flyers didn't come acallin'. Anybody who played for the "Red Deer Rustlers" can't be all bad. I'd be open to it if things don't greatly (not a little) improve.

One helluva storm, eh boys? Press conference in Madison yesterday...mayor, police chief, fire chief, head of streets, head of Metro bus, engineering. Soglin stated it will be the 3rd worse storm since 1990 with double digit snows and heavy wind. Madison schools closed; garbage, recycling, and large material pickup suspended, yada, yada, yada. I got up at 6:00 to snowblow. Looked outside, saw 5 maybe 6" and no wind. I should've continued in meteorology so I could be wrong 75% of the time and still get paid!!

"Hey you kids, stop kicking snow on my nice, clean sidewalk!" :)

Stats after Golden Domers:

PWR 30th of 60 decline of 5 spots
GPG 3.14 improved 1 spots to 16th
GAA 3.14 moved down 5 spots to tie for 41st
PP% 20.22% 20th improved 3 spots
PK% 75.0% tied for 56th down 7 spots
Pen Minutes 12.77 improved two spots to 17th (1st is the most penalties)
Faceoff % 41.1% still dead last at 60th (and dead last by 2.5%)

Ouch. Just utterly disappointed this year. I really expected improvement and we just seem to be sitting in utter mediocrity. For a team with this history that is unacceptable.

Stats after Goofers:

PWR 29th of 60 improvement of 1 spot
GPG 3.21 improved 4 spots to three way tie for 12th
GAA 3.38 moved down 5 spots to 4 way tie for 46th
PP% 19.57% 22nd down 2 spots
PK% 71.29% down 4 spots to dead last 60th
Pen Minutes 12.62 still 17th (1st is the most penalties)
Faceoff % 41.9% still dead last at 60th (and dead last by almost 2%)

Goalie stats:

Lebby 67th at 3.18 GAA, 76th at .888 Save %
Berry 71st at 3.37 GAA, 73rd at .891 Save %
They rank 80 goaltenders.

This is all ugly ugly ugly.

Lebby was BIG in the win Saturday, he's not as bad as the numbers show. Obviously the PK is killing the goalie stats. Who is in charge of that anyway? No one seems to know.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey 2018-2019: We can have a witty thread title when we start winnin

I did an analysis of the Granato / Osiecki years so far and the stats in many categories have gotten worse. If I knew how to post a picture or spreadsheet from my computer I would post it here.

He left on his own accord, though the writing was kinda on the wall, though he could have chose to stay and fight it out with Hayton. As bad the the UW PK is, his stats would be bad too. I don't think Cujo or Carey or Elliott or Ritcher would look any better on the PK than the Hammer. At least they all had a coach.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey 2018-2019: We can have a witty thread title when we start winnin

Is it the unspoken thought that Connelly is the de facto goaltending coach, even though not allowed on the ice?

Frederic is making his NHL debut tonight against the Jets.

I was streaming TSN Toronto 1050 this afternoon and Ray Ferraro mentioned Freddy's debut. Pretty cool hearing that on Canadian radio.

I stream TSN and SportsNet quite a bit since nobody on Madison radio, other than Posick, talks hockey.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey 2018-2019: We can have a witty thread title when we start winnin

I kinda think the new Bruins jersey #82 might just sell out after Frederic kicked the **** out of Tanev ---> HERE

Was the punching bag he pounded an NHL experienced guy or another newbie like him?
