Howie is/was awesome, I always went to his camps back in the day, the guy was a character.
I understand the angst some Badger fans have in regards to their coaching staff, but it's hard to look decent when your goaltender is absolute ****.
Seems like that's been the biggest issue all through Granato's tenure. You can make the argent that he is responsible for the goaltending situation I suppose.

Honestly, I don't think you can blame Lebedeff for more than one of the goals he gave up. Two were flukey, one was a snipe, and the rest he just got hung out to dry by the team.

His system has yet to field a goalie with a .900 sv%. He turned a guy who put up .937, .935 and .929 at St Lawrence into an .890 sv% goaltender. Berry hasn't topped .898 in a season. Jurusik couldn't top .892. Lebedeff currently has .886. To put this into perspective... Joel Rumpel in the WORST SEASON IN WISCONSIN BADGER HOCKEY HISTORY put up a .902 sv%.

No one is talking about special teams and faceoffs which are atrocious. There's definitely problems with the system.
We give up to many easy goals and defensive coverage continues in year three to be absolutely terrible.
Having poor / mediocre goalies isn't helping but many times they have no chance.

I was thinking the same thing. Wisconsin men’s hockey is akin to LSSU or other programs who had some flourish for a decade, maybe a decade and 1/2 then are absolutely mediocre at best afterward for decades.
That’s the reality. A 23-24 year old would have been born the last year this program was a national power. Think of that for recruiting. I’d use the record of the last 24 years against Wisconsin in every single recruiting battle if I were an opposing coach.

The thing is our D coverage wasn’t significantly better than yours and yet our goalie actually made some saves and didn’t let in any bad goals. The same can not be said about Berry last night, the only saves he had were bread basket shots and maybe one glove save on a Pitlick one timer from a not great angle. The Sheehy goal he let in was from a relatively poor angle and outside the scoring chance area, you need to stop that.
And I get that it’s only one game but every time I’ve seen Berry he looks like he did last night or worse (was it last year in Madison where he let in some horrible goal vs the Gophers or like scored on himself or something?). His long term sv% clearly bares that out too.
Your D doesn’t look to be elite in terms of D coverage and some of that is because Granato plays a more open brand of hockey (which after Eaves you can’t really blame people for wanting to see a 21st century brand of hockey) that puts the D in more one on one situations trying to deny zone entries. But they’re also young and nobody looks good (even the best NHL Dmen) when their goalies are struggling. Guys like Letang, Subban, Niskanen, and Gostisbehere have all been firmly in the minus due to their goalies some years.

From all accounts, the Badger was breaking his stick over the net, and Walker happened to be there. No intention on the Badger player's part. Still a stupid move by the Badger, but no ill intent behind it.

Stupidity doesn't get a free pass. He should get rocked multiple times tonight. Doesn't have to be crazy cheap.

The PK can actually get worse, at one point they were 100% on the pk, allowing 3 goals on 3 chances that is! Unbelievable. Put 4 folding chairs out there in a box or diamond and they'd be more effective than the players they send out here. We listened to the last 2 periods on the way home from the women's game, it was bad execution for sure.
Apparently the Hammer played very well. Please just keep running him out there so he is more seasoned for next year.

I dunno if it’s been said yet, but Wisconsin officially has the worst PK in D1 hockey. Allowing the opposition to score 29% of their power plays is horrendous. Who were the players on the penalty kill last year? Or two years ago? Last year they had an 80% kill rate. Two years ago it was 85%.

Refresh my memory: Do we know for sure who is in charge of coaching the PK? Is it still OZ, or may they have shifted things over to Strobel since both are D guys? Another thought, re: no goaltending coach. Understand the NCAA rules are ridiculous, and we need a volunteer coach. But, might we be better off using one of the full time assistant slots for a goaltending coach? That puts more duties on the head coach/other assistant (Granato/Oz); but, I would Granato is heavily involved in the offense/systems anyway. Let the volunteer/part-timer be a face-off specialist.

Reinprecht basically has no experience as a coach. He's got half a season as a volunteer assistant for Denver. That would be worrisome for a program that really needs a sure thing.
