Wisconsin Hockey 20-21 Give Us A Reason To Believe

Back to normal tonight. Three goals in 5 minutes in second and lose 5-2.

The short handed defense was not good on 2 of the goals.

There’s the badgers we all know. Michigan is a better team and that’s inexcusable with all of the draft picks etc.

Looked pretty evenly matched to me. Michigan has two guys who will likely be top 10 picks this year. I have much more faith in our current defenders to eliminate mistakes than past defenders. Caufield is snake bitten... He had a number of chances and still hasn't scored a goal. I expect that to change.

I hope you’re right. It seemed from the radio that there were large stretches of the game with Michigan in the O zone and that brought back memories of Red’s teams dominating UW.

but I won’t accept excuses like top 10 nhl draft picks on the other team. Last year Wisconsin had 3 1st rounders. This year they have 2. Time for that talent to win games.

Agreed completely. Call me an eternal optimist, but I fully expect tomorrow night to be a very different story. This defense is still gelling, but is the kind of corps that will keep themselves accountable. I expect a great response. And when Cole starts scoring, watch out. (I wonder if he took the “selfish” tag to heart too much early in the season. How he didn’t score on those four straight shots on the first power play, though, is beyond me.)

I’m loving the energy from Linus so far, and really hope TPB is okay, because he’s been great, too. I’m cautiously hopeful that this team will actually learn from what happened tonight and respond well.

Oh, and not to be the “refs suck” guy, but it sure would have been nice to have the two 5-min majors we should have had tonight.

sunprairie I agree with you on the majors not being called. In my opinion the second one against De St Phalle looked worse since the Michigan player took a few strides before he pushed him into the boards.

Gorniak's had a couple of pretty bad offsides IMO. I get that offsides is often the fault of the puck handler pausing/making a move at the line before entering the zone; but a couple of times Gorniak has been essentially waiting near the line watching the puck handler - not skating in on a rush parallel to him, and just too impatient/unaware of the spacing of the defensnemen/where pass would likely go.

So many mistakes and mishandled pucks. Its like they have never handled a puck with speed. To many guys are coasting and circling out there. Im not a fan of their PP setup and they better find some grit because they are baby soft.

I agree. Got hosed on that one. We have NHL overtime, it’s time to have NHL cameras in the nets, too.

True. But, I don't expect them to find the money for that with the virus destroying a lot of ways that the university makes money.

Doogity I find the PP setup to be so terrible... Caufield is best in the Ovechkin spot, makes no sense to neuter his offense by putting him on the other side. Cole appears to be super frustrated as well; slamming his stick against the boards and visibly frustrated when going to the bench. He's definitely being more selfish with the puck too, trying to dangle around guys instead of making simple plays that could be just as effective.

Other comments:
-Kehrer out for the OT was awesome. This kid is a stud.
-Beydoun is a pretty darn good goalie. I expect him to be the primary guy every night.
-If I see the stupid 2-1-1 pk setup one more time I'm gonna flip a table! This can't be what Oz is teaching these kids, so which one of them is in the wrong spot???
-Two power plays under ~ 5 minutes in the third and we can't (officially) score?? C'mon man.

Kehrer made some excellent plays while I was watching. And much more confident in Emberson in the top pairing than anyone that left this offseason.

Still some weaknesses (good lord Donovan’s dumb mistake on that first MI goal…), but looks better.

Rough week for Wisconsin sports: hockey loses twice, football lost, packers lost, Bogdanovic kills a trade to the bucks, etc... But, the new week starts in a matter of hours! Penn St. tomorrow night and Tuesday night. Bouncy ball plays Wednesday. Let’s get back to those winning ways!

Yes, Kehrer looked very good out there and had some on the rush plays where he took the down through the O zone looking to make a play. Now as long as he doesn't get carried away with that we will be fine.

Robbie looks like he can be the guy. I like it.

I hate where CC is on the pp. He needs to be where he was last year. His frustrations on the bench are not a good sign.

Totally sucks to be missing the top 2 C's. With both of those guys we are on par with UMi.

Outshot 20-7 in the first and they came away with a 2-1 lead. Pretty lucky, they got outworked pretty bad. Only goal they gave up was a beautiful pass from Gorniak for a PSU breakaway. Beydoun has been great.
