Wisconsin Hockey 20-21 Give Us A Reason To Believe

Another thing that rubbed me the wrong way was in the postgame interview with TDM that TG was wetting himself with glee over how well UW's goaltending is this year, while totally running Lebedeff and Berry over again with the bus. And train. And cement mixer. And an 18 wheeler. He basically said the goaltending last year made the other players not play with confidence and play bad, because then they try too hard to to play defensively and then they just made more and more mistakes. That is such fake news.

The play of the D overall is a lot better because Kehrer and Peltonen are >*10 than Kalynuk and Miller. Kehrer could easily be the ROTY of the team. He was quite under the radar heading into this year.

I guess you have to come back with Rowe today. I love the Robster, but Rowe really playing at a consistent high level, whether he is bored (ASU) or busy (PSU).

Brutal 1st period.

It was. And it sucks the boys lost. But last year’s team would have crumbled into disarray after those first two periods. This year’s team didn’t. I wish Cole would have been able to put it together to save the day after that last face off, but the whole team brought them back to a place where they’d even be in that spot. So, that’s something worth applauding.

Brutal 1st period.
What a pile of crap, what an epic embarrassment that first period was. If you watched the first game, you had to see this thing coming a mile away. There's no way Rowe was going to be able to withstand that continued barrage unscathed. The puck luck was going to go PSU's way at some point getting dominated and pounded like that. I think yanking him was a mistake, but Robbie played well in relief. And the superstar PP was sucky. Can't get in the zone, can't set it up, won't shoot the puck. That one pp they were outshot 3-0, and Robbie tried to get an assist on a PSU sh try on himself!

Yes they battled back, but that is not a reason for us to believe. At some point the ship had to be stabilized in the first period, but the players and the coaches had no answers. And they paid the price with the loss. These TG coached teams are just about as consistent as the weather in WI, you never will see any consistency day to day and game to game. Utterly frustrating. And I'd REALLY be pissy had the gals not had a double hatty / 2 scoops game at St. Cloud right before.

how Does Granato and Osiecki turn incredible talent into wasted opportunities and .500 or mostly below .500 teams???

it’s actually impressive honestly. Like if they coached the gophers and landed the top 5-6 kids in Minnesota annually they’d have a great 5th place team.

i give up.

I was going to say that TG's the main problem, but Oz's h/c record @ OSU is a bit under .500 the 3 years he was there and MS is kinda just a guy. Winchester is a volunteer coach, but since he's been there there has not been any discernable improvements, not that one would expect a volunteer to turn a team around.

They are playing much better in their own D zone this year, that is an obvious improvement and Cam and Robbie are doing their part, yet here we are hanging around .500. It's not too late, they need to get on a run here and they can still have a great season.

They lucked out on Thursday and Friday's first period doomed that game. They are darn lucky to get a split IMO. I just don't see it with this staff. Motzko has Goofer's turned around in 3 years. We're still waiting.......

Kehrer has made onto the NHL Central Scouting ratings chart. He is now a C rating. Dude is rock solid and knows just the right times to take the puck down low on his stick. I really like this Fr. class a lot.

I am having a much harder time analyzing players when not there in person versus on TV. You see so much more watching live.....

Ian Perrin raves about him on the radio call for sure....

I completely agree. You see so much more in person. I am really struggling to in my mind to quantify how good the Fr Webster and O'Brien are for the women. Sophie Shirley looks WAY more spectacular in person than on TV. The eye test (in person) is the best test.

Miller scored his first goal for the Rangers. I am quite shocked he's even playing with the big club right now unless they are going to take their lumps this season to get ready for next season.

Pav's cracked 800 pts. Holy crap.

I saw that Pavs got his 800th point. Got me to thinking about whether or not he will be able to break Chelios' record of points by a former Badger.

He'd probably have to play 3 more seasons (after this one) to get it, but if he's still putting up numbers someone might be willing to have him on their roster.

As I approach 20 years on this site, I've got to say this is the least I've been interested in college hockey. Maybe this Covid schitt is catching up to me. Even NCAA FB & the NFL weren't so important to me. However, I still look forward the NHL in the eve if I'm not busy; that must be my release!

Fortunately, Tim & Wisc recently are keeping the conversation going as well as an occasional post by digital, gwh, solo, and our friend Sol Diablo. I was talking to my wife, and she thinks I miss seeing dem bums in person win, lose or draw. Maybe that's it! One thing I WILL say, I'm saving a hella lot of money by not going to Badger or NHL games!

It helps to know that at least 1 other person is reading. I'm actually getting more traffic on the women's thread BSing with the rodent superfans right now. I enjoy posting, always have.

Is there a chance they will allow any fans in this season? Some arena's are allowing limited fans. You could get a couple hundred easy in LaBahn to watch. There more in Costco every Saturday and Sunday and Dane county doesn't seem to care.

It's not going to happen, as much as that would be fun......

I’m right there with you on the lack of interest. It’s covid related in a small way for me in that I can’t attend a game or two but much more so it’s the inept coaching and some prima Donna players who seem to think there are 5 pucks out there. The reality that this team cannot win an NCAA title nor are they even close to that really wears me down.

4 point night for Holloway. He's an absolute monster on the ice.

Yes, he's got "IT". Too bad we can't see him play for the full 36ish game season, he could by a Hobey guy.

MSU is not afraid to be physical and knock people to the ice, that is for sure. Baker really took it upon himself to do his part last night physically, he was a wrecking ball out there. They love to interfere along the boards. The only interference call was on Kehrer last night.

I don't think MSU really had a golden opportunity at all last night.

To pull a page out of Solo's playbook, yesterday's win is worthless if they don't win tonight. MSU will play better and UW won't get 2 luck luck goals, the pp won't go 2/3; it will be a nail biter tonight. I do expect the sog total to still be lopsided.
