Re: WISCONSIN HOCKEY 09-10 - Climbing The Mountain (7th Edition?)

i don't remember who the badger fan is that was upset that we were losing players to the WJC and called it a meaningless tournament but if you can watch our WJC team play north dakota this weekend, then you will get an idea of the level of hockey we are talking about.

The USA/UND game will be televised on both FCS and the NHL Network. I think the NHL channel is tape delayed though.

I expect the USA team to win by at least 2-3 goals. They beat UND 3-0 the last time they played, when the WJC was hosted by the Ralph.

The WJC is a step or 2 above college hockey, there are guys on team canada who have played games in the NHL this year and last. And here is a list of the games that are on the NHL network. Note Dec 31st will be the game to watch in the 1st round. USA

That was me and yes the hockey is meaningless to me when compared to Badger hockey, but I'll give it a chance and check it out. I'd still rather see the Badgers on our team and not risking injury for international play, but if it helps us land big recruits like you guys claim then I guess it's a necessary evil.

Re: WISCONSIN HOCKEY 09-10 - Climbing The Mountain (7th Edition?)

I guess my point is why is grotting on a scoring line???

I'd love to see Thurber playing ahead of Grotting. I certainly don't want him to have the same fate as Goro. :(

Street's shot total is really impressive. It shows he can get himself in position to score on a consistant basis. Eventually they will start going in more. It may be a matter of his shot getting a tad more accurate the more he plays. And at least his shots are on net. I'd like to see how many shots by each player have missed the net and were't deflected.

I wish more UW players on the breakaway would not deek and instead let a wrister go from 7' out like Davies did last weekend.

I think the last time davies tried deeking on a break away was in the NW regional final against UND at the KC in the 3rd period which would have won the game and put us in the FF... and he muffed it bad, if i was him I would stick to the wrister too.

What the F... I must be dreaming or something??? Burish was made for this job.... haha

".....enhancing live coverage....."
Don't you have to HAVE live coverage before you can enhance it?

Burish should be good. The studio guy might even have to shut him up!! :) Hendrickson does Gophersota pre- & post on FSN. I like his knowledge; he gets his points across to the viewer, but dude, spice it up a bit....a little too laid back! Come outta your shell!

I'll give my fellow Richfield native some slack. I actually really enjoy his post-game segments on the ice.

But, as for Burish... that guy's made for TV. I'm pleasantly shocked at how much I'm going to actually look forward to watching hockey on the BTN...

I have to disagree on Grotting, he brings a certain something to the ice every night that I want out there as a fan. I like Thurber too, but feel that is a poor comparison for PT. Sure Grotting isn't a scorer, though has had a few nice games in his career, he skates well enough, hits hard and works too hard not to be given the chances he gets.

Plus he beat Patricia White like a rag doll, he gets a lifetime pass in my book.

I'm assuming this is the same Mike Brodeur that was supposed to play for UW. When the NCAA ruled him inelligable, they brought in Elliott. Now he is backing up Elliott in Ottawa.

Yep, same guy, and he only gave up 1 goal. Friday night Els gave up a terrible goal to the Devils, and on HNiC last night they were making it sound like he was done for - pretty short memory for the media, considering Elliott had shutouts in 2 of the 4 prior games.

and UW's attendance numbers are down this year, we didn't even sell out the minnesota series...

Attendance numbers have always been lower in the first half of the season than the 2nd half as people tend to focus (and spend) on football. Depending on how they account for the CRHC, UW could put up a record number that would be near impossible for other schools to beat anytime soon.

Even with that in mind, not selling out the Minnesota series is highly unusual.

It doesn't help that MN decided that this year would be the year to massively underachieve and alienate most of their fair-weather fanbase.

The economy this year, compared to others in recent memory, is highly unusual.

I'd imagine that there are far fewer walk-up sales. Remember that this year was also the first time in a long time that UW didn't sell out a football game (they were really close, but Wofford just isn't a big draw).

Still, the usual pattern will hold, as it always does. Attendance in the second half will be better than the first half - both in terms of numbers sold and in terms of actual butts in the seats.

The other factor is that UW doesn't have too many home series left. That's probably a good thing as far as driving ticket sales to the outdoor game.

The 1/22-23 series with DU coming to town should be a good one.

Then there's Mankato (2/12-13) and SCSU (2/19-20), both of which should draw big crowds, particularly if they can capitalize on some buzz following the outdoor game.

Also, I forgot that the last series with Minnesota is Fri-Sun, with the Friday game at the Target Center...

Re: WISCONSIN HOCKEY 09-10 - Climbing The Mountain (7th Edition?)

Big weekend for the Badgers. Giving up the two goal lead last night was disappointing, but I won't complain about leaving Grand Forks with 3 points..

SOG do not necessarily result in victories, but I find this interesting. In the NoDak series, Badgers were outshoot both nights for only 2nd and 3rd time this season I believe (only other time vs CC), but still managed 3 points.
