Dear Mike Eaves,

Please bench Craig Smith. The guy is a great talent, but he needs to learn how to stop being a hack.

Sincerely,
A Badgerfan

Craig Smith definitely needs discipline. I was calling for him to sit more games after his 2nd CFB. He really needs to use his head.

You mean the part where you were being a smart a-s-s? Those smiley faces sure work as nice disclaimers for ya so you can backtrack. Well played.

This I will agree with. Brianvf, I think you're a decent poster, but you constantly make backhanded comments about teams and hide behind the emotion icons like you're absolved from even saying it.

Ex.What if I put down "the Sioux are overrated, Hakstol teaches players to be goons :D" on the Sioux board. You don't think I'm going to get some harsh criticism with some Sioux fans even though I put a :D! It's like telling your bonehead roomate he's a bonehead and telling him to lighten up, you're just being sarcastic when he gets mad.

I don't take the board too seriously. I believe in sarcasm, both in real life and on the board. Thus, most of my posts are sarcasm, but the only way to get that across in writing in most cases is to use the icons. So I do.

Don't take my comments as backhanded or malicious. I'm simply poking fun. :)

I, for one, enjoy Brian's smartass comments. :D ;)

:)

He had the same problem in the USHL. Several of his penalties were just plain laziness. He reminds me of Blake Geoffrion as a freshman just that he is contributing to the offense. Blake was good for many dumb PIM, Craig will learn or be on the pines in the future.

I really thought Goody played well, he had no chance on several of the goals this weekend, and also made several huge saves to keep both games in the Badgers favor. He doesn't make me nervous like Bennett either.

I wasn't aware of Smiths USHL stats....ugh

Gudmanson, from the sounds of the UND announcers had a tremendous weekend. World's better than he was as a frosh or soph. Someone here mentioned he'd been in touch w/Elliott?

Not that i know of... The question in goal gets a little more confusing now. Scott did let a couple soft ones in this weekend but some of the saves he made on the PK sure made up for it. I'm not sure how long BB is going to be out for but assuming he is ready by the showdown, I think you go back to the rotation, giving Brett the easier game against merrimack and Scott gets the 2nd game against the better team. That my take at least but picking a goalie for the stretch run is not going to be easy at all... but the more i think about, the more i realize i don't think it really matters who is back there in the end because of the complete team we have playing in front of them...

Re: WISCONSIN HOCKEY 09-10 - Climbing The Mountain (7th Edition?)

OK wisconsin has the same record as Denver and has scored 19 more goals and allowed 13 less in the same amount of games... lets see if we get any 1st place votes this week... Know one needs to tell me polls don't matter but i'm sorry DU shouldn't be getting 1st place votes this week... UW probably shouldn't either but if DU gets them, UW should as well, i think its clear there is no clear cut #1 in college hockey right now...

Please, for the sake of Wisconsin, learn the difference between no and know.

Is Brendan Smith of Blake Geoffrion a Hobey Baker Candidate???

1- Cut him some slack. We just got him away from "prolly", u r, lol, etc.

2- Who cares where we're rated this time of year. Doesn't matter. I would rather be under the RADAR anyway.

3- I don't know what's going on with C.Smith. I wasn't aware of his USHL stats. I used to watch him with the Capitols and his 1 year (?) at LaFollette and don't recall that edge. The sonuva***** sure does hustle, but get it under control.

He is fun to watch; he's pretty quick. I just wish goalies would stay "up" when they face a shooter without interference in front. I can't remember which one, but he goes down, the shot goes over his glove into the net. He stays up, he makes the save. FWIW

I wrote that after Friday's game.

Watching the fuzzy highlights from Saturday, I believe Goody did the same thing....twice. I'm not blasting him because that's what they're teaching these days, but he stays up, he makes the saves. That said, I'm a big fan of Goody's; always have been. I think Eidsness did the same thing 1 or 2 times.

Re: WISCONSIN HOCKEY 09-10 - Climbing The Mountain (7th Edition?)

I'm sorry, I'm a bit of a newcomer to the college hockey scene, so pardon what may be a silly question. I saw a couple posts about watching highlights, where exactly do you find these?

I read somewhere that he was in touch with Elliot. I will find the link and post it.

Edit: Found the link.

QUESTION: Knowing the tremendous history of goaltenders at Wisconsin, which one would you want to see in his prime?

ANSWER: "I worked a lot with Brian Elliott this past summer, skating with him and (Valley). That was something to see. He's an unbelievable goalie. I learned a lot from him and I look at him right now and he's got a huge opportunity in front of him (in the NHL with Ottawa). I hope he grabs the bull by the horns. I'm excited to watch him.''

Where were these couple soft goals? I don't remember any that I thought were soft, a few if he'd stayed up he might have saved, but I don't count that is soft. Sure you aren't thinking of Eidsness? He let a few Kangastype goals in this weekend. Several of the goals were wicked shots by Sioux players, several top self, that isn't soft, give the opponent some credit. Would you call Geoffrion's blast on friday night soft?

As for Craig Smith, he was 2nd in scoring in the USHL last season and I want to say easily top 10 in PIM. He was actually suspended for Waterloo's third playoff game due to back to back game DQs, but appealled and was able to play. He needs to pull it together in this area, and he'll be a WCHA star, because he has everything else IMO.

Re: WISCONSIN HOCKEY 09-10 - Climbing The Mountain (7th Edition?)

It was great to see Thurber get on the ice and play solid.

It's strange Smith played pretty cleanly til the cfb, and now the wheels have fallen off as far as disciplined play goes. Let him ride the pine a bit if needed, there's plenty of depth to cover.

What is the timetable for Bennett's return? Not that it's a rush to get him back, Goody played solid.

We will need him in the showdown with Stepan being out then we are at CC which is turning out to be a huge series so I'm not really sure where you bench him besides the U18 game. I agree he does take some terrible penalty's but I don't see anytime in the schedule where you could bench him without having the team pay for it, I'm sure Eaves will deal with it in a different way rather then benching him. Bottom line is we are in the hunt for all our goals midway through the season, i don't think benching him is in the teams best interest and i'm not sure that will do anything to solve the problem anyway...
