Wisconsin Badgers 2020-2021

UMD is only in contention due to receiving an inordinate amount of credit for being the best of the bottom four. They will finish the season with only 6 games against the top three and to this point have only a win against Ohio State and yesterday's victory over Wisconsin. Minnesota swept the Bulldogs in their early season series. Further, ALL of those games were played in Duluth. UMD also only split with Bemidji. Someone explain to me how 2-3 against the other contenders and the worst record of the four against the bottom three in the conference transfer into them playing today with a chance to be crowned conference "champions".

A balanced evaluation of the record makes UMD a solid fourth.

Me, back in January: "It's a messed up year. Likely no matter what they do, somebody - probably with some justification - is going to feel like they got screwed. Oh, well."

I believe that most observers would agree that WI has had the more impressive regular season. Though if the Bulldogs actually complete the sweep today, there's at least a conversation to be had.

Either way, this regular season crown is going to come with an asterisk. Under normal circumstances, a regular season championship is a more impressive accomplishment than a Final Face-Off title. But in this irregular season, I'd say that's reversed.

No disrespect to either team involved in today's game. Whoever wins will have my sincere congratulations.

Wow...Breakway for the sinners (Webster) gets stopped and Gabbie Hughes comes right back with a terrific move and goal. UMD with the early lead 1-0.

I don't have a dog in the fight but I'm not sure on the penalties against UMD. Especially that last one. Period 1 in the books with UMD leading 1-0.

Bottom line..UMD's goaltender, so far, is better than the sinners goaltender. Big territorial edge to Wisconsin who is playing better than last night.

Is Anneke Linser (#13) playing? I may have missed it, but didn't heard her name called in the first period.
Edit: Never mind, I see her now...

Territorial edge continues and the sinners break through with a goal. 1-1 now.

The sinner's depth is wearing UMD down.

Mistake by the sinners...Two sinners collide and UMD scores 3-1.

And just like that the sinners answer back...Defense has gone away...Fun stuff. Fire wagon hockey!

Soderberg is the difference so far, keeping the Dogs in the game. But what a shame she couldn't come up with the save on Eden's long wrist shot that pulled the Badgers back to within one.

Do they seed based on the regular season or national rankings? Shouldn’t the round 1 games be UMD/WI and MN/OSU? Wouldn’t this better reflect the reality of these teams?

My understanding is #1 vs #4, #2 vs #3 of WCHA standings. We know Ohio State is #3 in the WCHA standings and Minn is #4. Winner gets Minn, loser gets OSU.

Got it. Rumor has it only 2 WCHA teams will be invited to the National Tournament suggesting MN & UMD’s only route is to win the WCHA Jamboree.

Don't know who remembers, but last year Uw needed a point to win the conference outright, were down two with under a minute to play at Duluth, get the two they needed to tie and then won in 3-on-3 OT.

So now it is at least a tie for the season championship for UW, UW wins it outright if they can win the OT or the shootout. If Duluth wins OT/shootout, they are #1 for the tourney and they share regular season championship.

UMD looks gassed going into OT...We will see what they have left.

Not much...Wisconsin scores pretty easily and wins.
