Wisconsin Badgers 2015-2016

Preview video of UMD series.

Rolfes' status is a bummer. If they have shut her down this long, it doesn't bode well for the rest of the season. Wonder if it's beyond the point of no return for a medical redshirt year?

Again, I hate these international tournaments that are taking players away for conference games. I understand it's probably not going away, but doesn't mean I have to like it. Literally no depth on D if someone else gets hurt.

It's a dreaded Friday afternoon/Sunday afternoon series. Still in Sunday football mode or another week or so. Got spoiled by the couple of Friday night/Saturday late afternoon series which are really ideal.

The event ended today, so I'd assume everyone will be back and ready to play Sunday if not Friday. Also, UMD has three players at the Nations Cup (including Stalder), so it would hurt the Bulldogs more.

That makes me feel a little better trade-off wise. UW has said Channel will not play this weekend.

That Sunday noon start time is really dumb. Folks who have an hour drive in and get there early for their preferred seats don't get to eat a decent lunch. I recall last year a Sunday noon game had a really big turnout as well, we got there with 10 til game start time and 4 of us could not sit together, which sucked.

If you are a season ticket holder, you should be able to reserve the seats you want.

And if I was a Bulldog fan, I would be equally upset. I'll be interested to see if any of those Bulldog players are playing in either game.

My gripe isn't about Wisconsin being more affected than any other team. I realize that others have this issue. It's just unfortunate that college women's hockey has to deal with this on a yearly basis. I don't know of any other sport that has players picked off rosters throughout the season, conference games included.

The second game "should" be tomorrow afternoon. With men's basketball at noon, they could have put the women's game at 4. Basketball parking would have cleared out and still would have had time to get the lots ready for men's hockey. The rule/ordinance of not having overlapping UW events at LaBahn and Kohl is stupid.

On that last bit, I'm going to have to defer to the people who actually run the physical logistics of LaBahn Arena and Kohl Center events. (And unlike other aspects of what the athletic department does, there isn't much information out there on how that works, and it's not of much interest to me.) Look at today's games - women's hockey at 2, men's hockey at 7. I'm guessing if they could make the women's game later, they would, because it's just that much more likely that more fans will be able to attend. Even if you bumped men's hockey to 8, I doubt women's hockey at 4 would be doable on the same day.

I'm just glad they're able to squeeze things in a little more easily than when women's hockey was at the Kohl Center.

From a personal standpoint, I'm glad they don't hold Kohl Center and LaBahn Arena events simultaneously. The volleyball conflicts are enough.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2015-2016

Badgers get back on track in a big way with a 5-1 over UMD this afternoon. Granted, UMD was down several players, but still nice to see nonetheless.

I'm not buying the idea that they can't start the games any later or that they would start them later if they could. The 2pm/7pm split has been the standard going back to the Kohl Center days - so if it's logistics, that would mean it takes them the same amount of time to turn over the Kohl Center as it does to get things ready between games in different buildings. Even in the KC days, there were a couple of times where I watched the womens game and then worked concessions for the mens game, and I still had time to leave get a good meal, and had plenty of time before I had to show up to work.

I think it's much more likely that the games have always been at 2/7 so that's how they schedule it, and they don't really care if a few hundred more people could make it to a 3 or maybe even as late as a 4 o'clock start for the women. But I will say, I'm glad they don't play games at the same time. I know Minnesota pretty regularly has mens and womens games going on at the same time, and that's never made a lot of sense to me.

I will say, especially considering the 2pm Friday start, it was a decent crowd today. I didn't make it until halfway through the 2nd - literally walking in just as the goal horn sounded for the 5th goal. Even though I didn't see a goal, I still saw a very impressive performance from the Badgers - although some of that seemed to be a function of UMD looking really, really bad. Even accounting for their missing players, I'm kind of shocked at how far the Bulldogs have fallen.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2015-2016

No Rolfes, still out with "upper body injury". Considering someone had heard on the radio it was a concussion, it's a very bad sign to be out 2 months+. Channel is off playing for Canada with weekend, so only 4 full time D plus Drake. I doubt there will be a d shift without Ryan or Burke on the ice.

Sam Cogan played defense, along with Gardner, Ryan, Burke, Williams and Drake. I didn't discern any 'pairs'; I think the only combo I didn't see was Burke and Ryan. Otherwise it seemed like whoever with whoever else. Of course, if you're down a couple of D players, four first period goals is a good strategy to compensate. (And that made for some interesting forward combinations, too. At least twice I noticed Pankowski out with fourth-liners.)

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2015-2016

Not the best effort in the D zone today. After the first 5 minutes it could have been 2-0 UMD, they had 2 great chances with big saves by ARD. In the 3rd in a mad scramble, a UW defend behind ARD had a huge save. I'd say overall UMD had more quality chances. UW's forecheck got better as the game went on, but they didn't force a lot of big saves.

Thanks to women's BB, I got pinches for 5 bucks to park in lot 91, greedy ********.

I hate the noon start, we got there too late to get our preferred seats, but Church comes first.

I'm not sure how they could have said it was a sellout, there was a lot of room to sit open.

Emily Clark

That's who I thought it was, but I'd hate to post anything that I'm not 100% sure of. I will say the D in front of the net was a little unnerving, too many walk right in and shoot situations. I'm confident that they will get it cleaned up.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2015-2016

. . . I hate the noon start, . . .

We had a 2PM start Sunday about 1 block from Humiliation Stadium when the Vikings were teaching a new generation of fans why they should get accustomed to heartbreak. Getting in was not too bad because most of the drunks were already inside but traffic after was a nightmare even though the hockey got out after the other thing. We ended up just eating on campus. I know it came as a great shock that there would be a game on January 10 but really the UoM and WCHA should have allowed for that possibility

Series preview video/notes for weekend series with Bemidji.

Not sure what to make of Bemidji. Obviously they are a solid team, but had no success against Wisconsin or Minnesota earlier this year and really didn't look that good at all in Madison. Have to believe they'll have a better showing. Not sure how many losses an at-large team can have and still make the NCAAs.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2015-2016

32-28 shot margin not acceptable, good thing ARD was on her game. Lindenwood put up 4 against them last week, I'm hoping we can outscore them in this series.

Interestingly Walters was listed as the #2 goalie on the line combos sheet yesterday. I hope Miller is not injured, though we'd never know she was. She is a very capable and valuable back-up for the stretch run.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2015-2016

44-17 shot margin very acceptable, and so was the 7 goals scored, that's more like it. Nice to see Jones and Johnson chip in a goal each.

The sue come to town in a huge match-up. UW's looking to stake a claim on #1 nationally and the sue are looking to step over Bemidji and entrench themselves in the top 6 nationally. Buy your tickets early, I think these both will sell out.

Congrats to Emily Clark for taking home WCHA Offensive Player of the Week.

Love the fact that the Badgers have gotten back to business after dropping 4 points up in Grand Forks last month. Putting up 7 goals on Bemidji last Saturday was a pleasant surprise. I expect them to be dialed in on North Dakota this weekend.

I've bemoaned the point before, but wish the start times to the men's game were closer. I have tickets for both on Saturday and will have roughly 3 hours to kill between games.

As an out of towner, I like the gap if I do the double. We get to wander down State St, eat and watch people, then wander back to the KC.

Congrats to Coach Koch, winning some sort of national assistant coach award.

Checked the band schedule hoping for them to play at least 1 game, but they are not. They are doing men's hockey both nights and wbb Saturday. I better not get pinched for cash on lot 91 Saturday because women's bb is playing before them. I did tweet at them to let them know we'd like them at the games.

It is going to suck if they are not there for either game especially considering it looks like they'll be at every other Badger event on campus. Not to pile on the women's basketball team, but why would they want to play there and not women's hockey?

I would think that you should be safe in Lot 91 in the early afternoon prior to women's BB. Can't imagine parking enforcement would still be out beyond halftime of that game.
