Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

I want the band there too. They've haven't missed a playoff series in recent years, but haven't been to one game this season.

The only regular season games they've been to in the past 4 seasons (including this one) were for Fill-the-Bowl and maybe opening night of LaBahn Arena (I wasn't there). That said, they didn't list these games on the badgerband.com calendar...so we'll see.

Pretty sure they were there for the inaugural game (even though the team laid an egg that night). If they don't show tonight or tomorrow, it's a new low for the UW Band leadership. The e-mails and phone calls would need to start first thing Monday morning to make sure they are there if we host a NCAA Quarterfinal game.

UW lost both of those, so maybe the band is a jinx during the regular season and they've been asked to stay away. ;)

They won the first two Fill-the-Bowls, and last year's didn't happen as far as I'm concerned. (Even before the game started, everything felt flat and comatose compared to the 2012 game. It was eerie.)

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

Band in the house and making a ton of noise. Badgers up 4-1 after 1. So everything is good right now.

UW sure took their foot off the pedal after the first. They had 26 shots in the first, then twenty-something the rest of the game. I was disappointed in that. They also came out flat in the first. If they played the whole game like they did the last part of the first when they scored 3 quickly, it's a laugher. I read at OSU they had similar issues. They need to play the whole game with desperation.

I was also bummed SCSU scored, kind of a reboundy in tight thing.

Turnbull had 2 great looks where if she shoots off the pass she probably scores, but both times she stopped the puck, looked, then either shot or passed.

Nurse's goal off the faceoff was a LAZER!

I was so jacked to have the band there. It was awesome. The crowd size was disappointing, maybe 2/3 full.

That stupid wrestling thing at the Kohl meant I got pinched 15 for parking. That sucked.

Wisconsin Hockey: High Expectations.

I agree on most counts. I didn't think it took long for the Badgers to put it in high gear in the first period and completely blitzed St. Cloud. The Nurse goal seemed to catch Friend completely by surprise and set the tone for the first period. Even when the Huskies cut it to 3-1, Badgers scored right after that to maintain control of the game.

Felt like a combination of Wisconsin letting up a bit and St. Cloud just playing harder/better the rest of the game.

It was very cool having the band there. Had to be at least 25-30 strong and with the tighter confines of LaBahn, there were loud and rowdy. Beats the h-ll out of having to listen to canned music all game long.

For whatever reason, the first round playoffs never draw really well. Aren't part of the season ticket package which probably impacts it some. Plus playing the same team back to back weekends probably don't help. Not sure, but I'm surprised that it's not at least pushing 2,000, especially with the ticket prices remaining the same as the regular season.

Parking, on the other hand, was a rude awakening. Completely forgot that state wrestling was going on at Kohl. Went to my normal place and indeed it was $15. No way I was paying that. The parking ramp right behind Buck's on Regent was "only" $8. Could be more tonight. Personally, I'm going back to some on-street spots west of Park Street that I usually go to for a men's game. Longer walk, but I'll put that money towards concessions.

I'm sure they'll be reminded how they lost to Mankato last year in this same scenario last year. Need to take care of business tonight and move on to Grand Forks.

Thanks for the update. Nice to see that I-94 pipeline of talent down to Madison continue. That'll be three straight incoming classes with players from the Cities.

I do think as well that SCSU did play better after the first period.

I'm kind of screwed on parking, my daughter and wife will not want to walk real far in the cold. I wonder how Panera Breads feels about their customers getting charged for parking at their restaurant. Looks like at 6 pm the wresting title matches start, I'm hoping by that time the robbers will have left the lot.

Parking was $15 at the lots behind the LaBahn when we headed to the Big 10 for dinner around 5:45 and by the time we parked the guys just waved us through.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

A lot better overall effort by the gals last night. The SCSU goal was again on a scrum in front. ARD tried to coral the puck, but she could not and it ended up in the net. The UW PP might be their Achilles heel in the next 2 tournys. They need to get that worked out.

We sat parallel to the goal line on the student end and you could really see how SCSU just clogs the middle of their D zone when they go into their 5 on 5 shell, which was a lot last night. There's no way to get a shot from the point to the sieve, and getting a pass through is also almost impossible. What I think would be interesting to try when they do that is bring the puck out of the zone back into your own zone, and transition back in, because in transition is where the quality opportunities are. You have to get them out of that shell and use the speed and skill advantage to the max.

I love the live National Anthem singers that have had lately.

The crowd was a lot bigger last night, and the band was great, what a treat.

We got waved in to park for free, but we did have our pass from the night before, which said it was good for the month of Feb, 2015.

Announced crowd on Saturday was only a couple hundred more than Friday, but it did feel like a lot more. Badgers did seem to play a better game for all 60 minutes.

In a freak play in the second period, somebody's stick went flying into the stands and just missed hitting a baby by inches. I can't remember seeing a stick getting catapulted that violently into the stands. Then a few minutes later, a St. Cloud player tried to clear the zone, but sent the puck right into the stands knocking a bucket of popcorn out of some woman's hands. Crazy...

Loved having the band there and they were really into it. Hopefully, they will be sent if/when the Badgers host a NCAA quarterfinal game.

Did you see her reaction..did she laugh...horrified?

Years ago at a mens game I had a couple sitting to my left. They paid no attention to the game (I have no idea why they came) but talked about work & what they did last weekend and plans for next weekend and her new car. Drove me nuts with the yap yap yap. A puck flew into the stands & caught the guy in the head, he never saw it coming. The carted of in an ambulance. PAY ATTENTION! OTOH, I did enjoy not having to hear them after that.

Glad to hear nobody was hurt. Also glad to hear you had a band, those fans deserve it.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

Speaking of pucks going into the crowd - I think it was the second men's home game against MSU this year when (I think) Wittchow launched a puck into the stands. Luckily, the fans dodged it, but it wasn't a chip or deflection - he fired it towards the glass from the middle of the defensive zone on the PK. It sailed high, but was moving at a very high speed (faster than I'd ever seen a puck go over that part of the glass), which had to be pretty scary.
