Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

OK, let's ignore the first 2 games and pretend they never happened :rolleyes:
here are the goals given up by the seniors in games 21 & 22:
Turnbull =0
Ammerman =0
Sylvester =1 (guess who was skating with Sylvester when this goal was given up, see below)
by the freshmen:
Pankowski =3
Clark = 3
Wellhausen =2

or do you want to ignore games #3 & 4 against the Gophers too?

I do enjoy a good painting. I watch "Joy of Painting" all the time. My dvr is full of that show, so I'd understand paintings. :)

Thanks for the stat breakdown, that is clear, though some of your stats and my brain don't mesh. How about the last game, what were those stats?

the only one that matters
MN 3 WI 1

If we were talking about students majoring in chemistry, everyone would assume that into their 4th year, the seniors would know more about chemistry than freshmen. Why is it so tough to grasp that the same may be true of hockey players?

I don't think anyone was arguing the fact that a senior should be better than a freshman when it comes to schools like UW and UM.. A highly recruited freshman (the ones recruited by and attending the top hockey schools) will develop into a very good if not great player when they are seniors.. Your original statement was that the UW's freshmen LINE (Clark, Wellhausen, Pankowski) didn't do so well against the Gophers.. And I agreed with you about that to a point. They were only together for 2 of the 5 games against Minnesota. The first being in January when the three of them were a minus -3 and the last in March in the semi-final at the Frozen 4 when they were a plus + 1.. As others have posted as well, they were markedly better as a threesome from January to March. May have even been UW's best line in the playoffs vs. St. Cloud, BU, and UM. I also gave full kudos to UM for being a great team and deserving the championship. I just think that the development of UW's freshman class can't be overlooked..

Certainly shouldn't be overlooked in a Wisconsin thread.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

Frost said after the NCAA semi that the game turned when he put the Brandt line out against the UW frosh line. He started the game trying to put the Pannek line out vs the Badger rookies, but was forced to make the switch because UW was getting the best of that matchup.

This was partly because Pannek was getting absolutely schooled in the faceoff circle. Minnesota could not hold possession with those two lines matched up and Frost had to adjust and move his top line here.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

I was excited to read that Vetter and Knight will play in the BGHC. I'd love to see some more UW Women's Olympians get involved. Is the seating reserved?

Everyone has their opinion, and it may have been true for this game, it has been long enough I cannot remember and I am unaware of where you find the stats for individual games, but here are the stats for the year:
Brandt 66%
McKibbon 60.4%
Piazza 59%
Schipper 56.6%
Pannek 55.7%
Somchuk 55.1%
Turnbull 54.3%
Clark 53.4%

Although faceoffs are important, they don't occur that often, and the Pannek line must have been holding their own, other than the faceoff goal, no damage done. I guess everyone has their opinion. In the end both the MN 2nd & 3rd lines were able to hold off the WI Fr & Sr lines while the Brandt line got 2 goals against WI other line, and Pannek did redeem herself and got a PP goal.

It looks like the stats for the tounament are available:
Brandt 68.8%
McKibbon 51.5%
Piazza 57.6%
Schipper 44.4%
Pannek 47.5%
Turnbull 36.6%
Clark 54.3%
Wolfe 46.7%

If Clark schooled Pannek, she must have really had a bad game against BU while Pannek had a really great game against Harvard (she missed most of the RIT game) Harvard did take a lot of face offs and lost most 76-84
BU won 32 and lost 26 faceoffs in their game against WI
thus my math tells me WI won 27 faceoffs and lost 29 to MN
since they won53 and lost 67 for the tournament
maybe someone has the stats that shed better light on this

Was a little surprised that no women's players were part of it last year, but it does sound like Geoffrion reached out to a couple but the timing didn't work out. I think Knight and Vetter will be a fun addition.

I was there last year and think it was reserved seating, but not 100% sure. Current links to the event don't really spell it out, though I may have missed it.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

From the article: "Gardner is the third member of UW's incoming class, joining forwards Sam Cogan (Ottawa, Ontario) and Shopia Shaver (Wayzata, Minnesota).

Shaver's first name is Sophia.

An honest mistake, they must have gotten her confused with all the other Shopias there are out there. :)

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

Bought 2 tix for the BGHC. Looks like it's 2/3 filled as of yesterday. I didn't get to sit where I wanted, but that's "all....my.....fault" not buying Monday @ 12:01am. I am looking forward to getting back in LaBahn, my second home in the season. I'm very interested to see Vetter and Knight against the lads, er, men.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

Dammm the next few years are going to be fun between MN & UW - two worthy opponents and a whole lotta fun for us fans. I wish UW a lot of luck (just not too much :) )

Last year was the year for UW to knock the rodents off and they failed. I think the rodents have UW covered this next season. UW lost a lot to graduation (142 pts vs 105 pts for the rodents) and the gals coming in, while highly touted, will need to develop. I think 3 things will have to happen for UW to unseat the rodents next season. ARD will have to take a step to the point where she can outright steal a game against a worthy opponent. I have yet to see her do that like Rigsby and Vetter did. Nurse will have to fulfill her potential and dominate, and Pankowski will have to have a Knight type of year. Even if all this happens, I still think the rodents are too loaded to topple nationally.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

At this point, I just want one win over the Gophers by any means necessary. The talent gap has been narrowed and the Badgers scored first in 3 of the 5 games last year. The problem is that there is very little margin of error to win the WCHA if you can't beat Minnesota at least once. Outside of Bemidji or No Dak here and there, they are running the table on everyone else.

No reason that the Badgers won't be national title contenders this upcoming season, but scoring depth is a big question. After the top 2 lines, it gets interesting.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

I realize it's probably not an apples-to-apples comparison, but it's interesting that people are freaking out on the UW men's thread not having the 14th/15th forward spots filled yet while the women's team seems to only have 12-13 forwards on board depending on where Drake plays.
