Wisconsin Badgers 2012-2013 - The LaBahn Era Begins

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2012-2013 - The LaBahn Era Begins

I emailed someone and they told me Ammerman will be back as a redshirt and there is nothing for sure on McKeough yet, so some good news for sure on the scoring front.

Said emailer has a nice article outlining McKeough's troubles. It's very sad to read she may be done with hockey, it's even sadder it's derailed her academics as well. On the plus side Baggot does confirm officially that Ammerman is on pace to return this year.

Still waiting for the schedule to get posted to evaluate buying season tickets.......

Is this the article of which you speak?

I believe I can speak for fellow Gophers fans - we wish her the very best.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2012-2013 - The LaBahn Era Begins

Your just glad she's possibly gone....;)

Totally wrong. I hate to see ANY player suffer an injury of any kind, especially one that could end one's hockey playing career. I would hope that you would feel the same for a Gopher player experiencing similar physical issues.

While I always want all current/former Badger players to make the Olympic team, if Rigsby/Burke/Pankowski make the team it will make for an interesting 2013-2014 season. This coupled with McKeough's injury-related departure and Brittany Ammermann's unknown status makes for a significant talent loss. No doubt that Wisconsin would still be competitive, but wouldn't be any better than last year (with no NCAA bid) and probably worse.

I don't know. Things may be more "equal" than you might expect even under those circumstances that will be commensurate with at least some of your WCHA opponents and around D-I in general. Including the post season. It's tough to say before we see who makes the roster and who heads back to their college team. I like Burke for the US roster though.

I'd personally be very surprised if Burke or Pankowski make the team. Both outstanding players, just seems like there aren't enough spots for them.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2012-2013 - The LaBahn Era Begins

Mine is by no means an expert view, but it seems to me that Rigsby is the most likely of those three to make the Olympic team (as the third goalie), with Ann-Renée Desbiens coming in to keep 3 goalies on the roster.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2012-2013 - The LaBahn Era Begins

I'd like to be a fly on the wall at the hockey office this morning. They had made a contingency plan for Rigsby and she didn't make it. That has to be a bitter pill to swallow for everyone involved. Plus, while it's great for Anne Pankowski to make the team, she was going to be a much-needed offensive shot the arm for the upcoming season. I knew she was highly recruited, but I didn't realize how good she must be.

Agree 100% on Pankowski, kind of a shocker. Maybe she'll get cut in December and get to play for UW the 2nd semester. At least Ammmerman will be back from injury and UW didn't loose anyone else. As far as Ann-Renée Desbiens goes, they had to bring her in; they'd have been fools not to. So she sits a year, it won't hurt her. She had to know coming into this she might have to play behind Rigsby 1 year.

So when is the schedule going to be released? Come on already...

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2012-2013 - The LaBahn Era Begins

Frankly, I don't expect the schedule to be released until after men's & women's basketball schedules are set. Even with their own arena, they are somewhat at the mercy of the other sports when they can play their games.

That would be absolutely pointless. Why waste half a season of eligibility? Better off matriculating in January and getting a semester of courses under your belt (eliminating the need for summer classes) without wasting a redshirt year.

I disagree that it would be pointless. With Rigsby and Burke not making the Olympic team, the 2013-14 team just got their best goalie and defenseman back in the fold. The one big question mark (by a mile) is scoring. The argument could be made that getting Pankowski back for the second semester would make them a legitimate title contender. Plus (if she takes the redshirt), she'll be back in the same spot for the '18 Olympics. Could she even take two redshirt years, assuming she'd be good enough in four years?

It would be an interesting discussion if its comes to pass. UW will almost certainly need her but it will be in her best interest to redshirt the season and get the chance to play 4 whole seasons. Who knows how that ends up...

Just not sure it would be 100% in her best interest to sit out the whole season. She would get to play the half of this season that is the most important, then have 3 more full years and then go back and make the 2018 Olympic team. Obviously a moot point if she makes the final roster. Regardless, I'm looking forward to seeing her play this year whether it's for Team USA or for the Badgers.

I used to think that until Jocelyne Larocque parlayed a half of a season into an NCAA title. As far as I know, she is the only person who has opted to play a single semester after being cut.
