Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2010-2011, The next generation.

Im happy with Bucky taking 3 points from this past weekend. Michigan is a quality team and is never easy to take points from and Michigan State, well...they suck.
As for this year's 3rd jerseys, I find them to be very blah. IMO, the UW could do much better.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2010-2011, The next generation.

We'll I wasn't trying to make a debate over the jersey's but who's jersey's were better Saturday UW or MSU.

Also UW football going toi Rose Bowl we will curbstomp TCu we'll win by 30-40+.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2010-2011, The next generation.

One month ago I said I would take a .500 record over the past 4 weekends (Minny/UND/UMD/Mich/State). We went 2-4-2...but I think we played a lot better over that rough stretch than 2-4-2.

I'm beginning to get nervous that between getting jobbed at the icebreaker on 2 disallowed goals that should have counted & getting jobbed in OT Friday night against UMD we might be sitting at home come tournament time. I'm really hoping that's not the case, because I agree, we've played better than our record, but, unfortunately, the pairwise isn't going to factor in those details.

I'm hoping this group can pull together, learn from some of the tough experiences early in the season, take 13 or 14 points during the next 4 series, and put my fears to bed. I think this is the time that we see what kind of leaders we have in Dolan, Gardiner & Smith (and Murray, who should be wearing a letter IMO). There are points to be had, and we need to come out & dominate some of these lesser teams.

Since I don't feel like reposting, I left something for you in the recruiting thread.

Also, RE: third jerseys - theres a window shop on state street that has a fugly tan/black jersey, but it got me thinking... What about keeping our normal jersey design, but going black with red letters and white trim? Simple, unique, and simply put, bad@ $ $.

That, and how come more of our new/infrequent posters can't put together a coherent thought like Doug here? My thoughts exactly! (Especially Murray... should have an A at minimum, IMHO. Then again, I'm not getting paid the big bucks.)

all excellent points. I'll add the next 8 games are critical for an NCAA berth. Anything less than 6-2 in this stretch (and I've love to see a 7-1) and they're going to be a bubble team, possibly worse. 6-2 or better and they set themselves up nicely for that next showdown w/duluth.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2010-2011, The next generation.

I was discussing the Badger season with a couple folks Saturday night and also came to the conclusion that December is critical. It's pretty strange talking about an NCAA berth in November, but that's what's shaking out. Lots of freshmen on the team, although 19-20 y/o, but hopefully they are mature enough to overcome the early season "jobs" as d-mac wrote and the OT losses & ties.

The long "road" trip to Alaska is always a bonding trip. Hopefully this will get the ball rolling.

An all black alternate like the Blackhawks could be totally bad*****. I like your thinking.

On La Bahn arena, does anyone know if there's been any movement on either side to try to get the WIAA tournament moved there?

My wife and I were just talking about that last weekend as we pulled into the Coliseum parking lot.

I hope they could do that as it would make for a better atmosphere than the mostly empty and mostly crappy coliseum.

Has there ever been more people at that than what the capacity of La Bahn will be?

Goaltending will also be a key. Goody was back to form Saturday. Bennett, from what I read, let in a few softies.

UW kind of got screwed against Duluth, but UW did pull down a dawg in the o zone and it didn't get called either in OT, so I think the refs were letting everything go in OT. If Goody plays a bit better it never gets to OT. That is the most disappointing thing about that game. If you score 5, you HAVE to win that game.

Next 8 games....UAA 4-8-2, BM ST 3-8-1, Mass 2-6-3, Canisius 6-6-4. 6-2 I'd be disappointed in, 7-1 I could live with, 8-0 is possible. UAA is the only realistic chance for a loss. The other 3 teams will be deer in headlights coming to the KC the first time.

Speaking of the Kohl, everytime I go to a men's game (Friday UMD) and go through the historical intro and the player intro, I am just overwhelmed with awe about the program. We've got a lot to be thankful for with the UW program.

Then I got to a womens game (Friday was cool watching them snatch victory out of the dawg's jaws) and I think, these gals a awesome, why doesn't the crowd get all wound up for them?

With all due respect, I don't believe that any of those teams will be deer in the headlights. (You had to go with deer? :D) Or if they could be, I believe that it's just as likely that our very young team will come out flat or take a team lightly. 6-2 over this run would be very good, imo.

We've shown that we can score and compete with top teams. What we haven't shown is that we can win tight games. That and our age make me believe that while talented, we are not a team that can expect to win any game, let alone 7 out of 8.

As far as the women, the atmosphere will be so much better in the new building where it will feel more full.

Easy Buddy, don't lump all of us noobs in that boat. I can't help it if Varsity got a new name or 2

One thing this team has shown is that they can get back into games when they are down. Down against Tech in both games, came back 3x against Michigan, grabbed a tie vs minnesota on the road, after blowing a 3-1 lead against Duluth took it to OT, as a few examples. In the six losses, they really have only had it taken to them a few times, which is impressive for a young team. They don't give up. I think their SOS is 3rd in the country so far, it hasn't been easy.

I agree about the next 8 games, 6-2 would be great. If this team pulls it all together in the 2nd half, I wouldn't want to play them. This reminds me of the 2006/07 team w/ out all the injuries. Nothing flashy, a lot of young talent and a few key veterans who were on a roll come February, this time they are in a much better position for avoid too little too late.

Maybe, maybe not. Many a team has lost a game due to being in awe of and taken out of their game by the atmosphere at the Kohl.

Amen to that. UW is a great hockey program and Ive always considered myself very fortunate to be a Badger fan.

The short answer to that is most people dont care about womens' sports. Our gals are awesome and I too would like to see more people attend the womens' games. I go to 4 or 5 womens' games a year and theyre a lot of fun. Its also kind of cool that you can sit anywhere you want and tickets are super cheap.
Another aspect of the women that I always thought was cool is that they are playing more for the right reasons than the men are. The men are playing for the love of the game and to get a big fat NHL contract. The women, however, are playing for the love of the game but their ultimate goal is to represent their country in the olympics. Unlike the men, their odds of getting rich playing as a pro are zero.

I'm not sure how much stock I put into this theory as whole, but I think it's worth noting that 4 of the 8 games you all are discussing are over winter break, where the student section is diminished a bit.

Yeah, I was probably a little over the top. Mass did play the rodents, B ST has already played in big buildings, but Canisius is dead meat. That average about 800 per game. The largest crowd they have faced was @ W Mich, 2000 people.
