Wisconsin Badgers '10-'11

Re: Wisconsin Badgers '10-'11

I'll probably post this more than once this week, but for those non-season ticket holders going to the game, I highly recommend buying tickets ahead of time. Even with $1 admission (or maybe because of it), there will probably be a major bottle-neck at the ticket office. I've gotten caught in this a couple of times (going with someone who didn't already have a ticket) and have missed the opening face-off more than once, which was annoying.

UW is doing a pretty good job promoting the Fill the Bowl game so I think they'll make a run at over 6,000.

I was at the Saturday Kato game, I thought UW could have promoted the fill the bowl game better, really ramping up some enthusiasm for the event.

I will be attending my 3rd UW women's game at fill the bowl, and will be bringing 10 people with me, 8 of which have never seen a women's hockey game. If the bowl gets filled, will they open the 2nd tier? I would love for the band to be there too. I did the print at home tickets. I got stuck in the ticket line the day after Thanksgiving and almost missed the faceoff for UMD.

My 2 sons love going to the gal's games and bring freinds along. We're planning on going to the Friday sue game as well.

Every game Ive been to this year (mens' and womens') theyve promoted the game during intermissions. Other than running TV ads, Im not sure what more you could expect them to do.
Im torn between going to the fill the bowl and going to the Rockford/Milwaukee AHL game.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers '10-'11

Yeah, I've been quick to call out the UW in the past in promoting the women's team and I think they've done a pretty good job with this series.

If memory serves, they opened the second deck for the NCAA game against Harvard (also maybe the Dartmouth game) and the exhibition game against Team USA. So my best guess is that the second deck will be open. It'll be interesting how many concession stands they'll open and how many of the gates will be open into the Kohl Center. Those have been issues in the past for games with relatively big crowds. I'd assume they would learn from experience.

I hadn't planned on taking the bait on the band issue, but I would like to think that somebody would see to it that they would be there. Who knows, maybe even Mike Leckrone will grace us with his presence, especially since the game will be on the Big Ten Network. If there's no band this weekend, then I wouldn't expect one at any point the rest of the season. That will be my last comment on the band.....for this week at least.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers '10-'11

For Saturday night, Iam told that 7 concession stands will be open on the main concourse as well as a popcorn and dippin dots stand..

Also told that there will be spotlight intros and promotions as part of fill the bowl. Room will be held in the band area as well so hopefully more than 2 of them show up...

That's great to hear on all counts. The spotlight intros will be cool. Don't remember that being done before for the womens team.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers '10-'11

Hoping that we'll see a good crowd tonight in addition to the Fill the Bowl promotion tomorrow night. Granted, it's not exactly comparing apples to apples, but the womens series here in Madison will probably outdraw the mens series up in Houghton.

Speaking of which, in what has to be a first, the Badger women will be on TV (national TV at that) Saturday while the Badger men will have no TV coverage that I know of either night. Not that it's good that the men aren't on, but very cool that the Fill the Bowl game is being shown live on the Big Ten Network.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers '10-'11

That means the pre-sold ticket total will probably already beat the indoor record. Plus, there will be a big walk-up crowd so beating the overall record at Camp Randall last year is realistically in reach.

Thats what I thought! Hope a big crowd comes out for both games. It should be a great series to watch as usual when the Gophers and Badgers get together.

I think what has spured the pre sale for sat night is people not wanting to endure a wait in line ..

And for those paying cash at the door tomorrow night. Take advantage of the outdoor cash only tix windows..

Wonder what the over/under is on the number of in game hugs and pats on the back will be this weekend??

The only other opponent where I've seen the same "friendliness" on the ice for the Gophs was Harvard in the days when we had Darwitz/Wendell and they had Chu and Ruggiero. Dating back to the first year of the Badger D-I program, it seems UW and UM have always had friends on the respective rosters, and at one time, even sisters.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers '10-'11

I think someone needs to remind these ladies that the Badgers and the Gophers dont like each other.
Great game tonight, BTW. Both teams played a great game and it wasnt until the shootout that the rodents' goalie started making mistakes.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers '10-'11

Not really the desired outcome but Raty was on fire tonight.. Cant belive we didnt score when she was without her stick!

Re: Wisconsin Badgers '10-'11

Raty was the reason it wasn't 6-2, though the first goal was a little soft. She got victimized by three great shots in the shoot-out.

I could go on about the refs, but what's the point? With that said, I've never seen someone (can't remember which Badger) take a stick to the head right in front of the referee and no call. One of the worst non-calls I've seen in quite awhile.

Hope the big crowd tomorrow can be treated to a similarly entertaining game..ending with a Badger win, of course.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers '10-'11

Anybody notice Amanda Kessel getting booed? LOL This game was about what you would expect when the Badgers and rodents meet. Both teams elevate their games and its always a barnburner. The rodents' goalie played a great game, she just kind of fell apart during the shoot-out. Their loss is our gain. I'll take a win any way I can get it, especially against a rival.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers '10-'11

Good Luck Tonight, Bucky!! Anybody but the Gophers! Come out swinging!

(As a Wisconsin native, I'm allowed to say it.)

Re: Wisconsin Badgers '10-'11

Congratulations on setting a new attendance record -- nice support.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers '10-'11

Selling tickets for $1 helps.
I don't think that's the biggest factor. Minnesota has had a lot of games where people could get in for not much money that haven't drastically increased attendance. Promotion is huge. You have to make the fans who are willing to attend aware that the event is being held.
