Wisconsin Badgers '10-'11

Re: Wisconsin Badgers '10-'11

A split with UM-D is nothing to sneeze at. They are a quality team who doesnt give up points easily.

Re: Minnesota/Wisconsin photos from Saturday, November 6

I don't know anything about the other three recruits mentioned in the release, but Miss Sylvester will definitely be a great addition to the Badgers. I experience a slight feeling of dread when I envision her in Cardinal & White for four years. Seriously, a good get by MJ.
Definetly a good get by coach Johnson. Its not our fault that so many of Minnesota's best HS players choose to play their college hockey at the UW. ;)

For the women's team that really isn't true. Look at the current roster, there are 6 MN born players on the team. Only Anne Dronen and Breann Frykas are regulars on the ice, and Frykas didn't play HS hockey in MN. Maria Evans and Laurel Miller are 4th liners who don't get much ice time, Nikki Kassa is a 3rd string goalie, and Natalie Berg was recently added to the roster since I don't remember her on their at the start of the season.

I understand the attempt at humor, but this appears to be a rarity for Johnson, instead he is just landing the best US and Canada girls from their U-18 programs, and other top flight AAA midget major players from around North America. Idaho, New Jersey, Michigan, Ontario, Nova Scotia, etc.

I wasnt exactly talking just about the womens' team, but you get the drift. It was little more than a dig at the rodents.

Frykas is from Manitob I believe and played in Michigan, so other than traveling through Minnesota to get their I do not think she counts as a Minnesota player.

Brianna Frykas is definitely from Manitoba. On the USCHO roster she is listed as being from "East St. Paul, Minnesota" but it should read "East St. Paul, Manitoba" (East St. Paul is just outside of Winnipeg). As a youth player (U14) she played on a summer team (Manitoba Lightning?) with Bailey Bram of Mercyhurst and if memory serves I believe Katherine Wilson (now with UMD) was also on that team.

I thought that was odd, and remember her playing on Canadian teams when doing some recruiting research over a year ago, but was too lazy too look it up again. CollegeHockeyStats misled me w/ the roster info.

Sophomore Brianna Decker (Dousman, Wis.) recorded her eighth multi-point game of the year as she led Wisconsin to a 4-3 win over the No. 8 North Dakota Fighting Sioux on Saturday afternoon at the Ralph Engelstad Arena.
The Badgers scored 3 goals in the first period and managed to hang on for the win.

Re: Minnesota/Wisconsin photos from Saturday, November 6

6-2 win and a much needed road sweep today.

Each line seemed to have their moment to play well. Madison Packer also recorded her first badger goal.

Rigsby continues to get better each game and I think we are starting to see where the Vetter comparison comes from.

7 penalties a side is way too many as far as I am concerned and it showed especially in the third period. Whatever the score is both of these teams need to find their own ways to keep the frustration from boiling over and the refs have still failed to learn where the thin line for making calls resides.

UND will need to develop beyond the Lams line, Alyssa Wiebe, and Madison Kolls if they want to have a successful year. At least their coaches are planning for the future by the looks of their commits.

Re: Minnesota/Wisconsin photos from Saturday, November 6

Nice sweep to get the Badgers back on top of the WCHA standings with a couple of games in hand. Definitely more parity in the league (Duluth losing a shoot-out to St. Cloud!?), but the old guard isn't going anywhere any time soon. Hopefully, they can stay focused and take care of business in St. Cloud this weekend.

Didn't see any of the games, but I think games with North Dakota will continue to be physical. To those who saw it, was yesterday chippy or just tightly called?

Re: Minnesota/Wisconsin photos from Saturday, November 6

Re: Minnesota/Wisconsin photos from Saturday, November 6

Badgers keep the pedal to the floor by beating St. Cloud this afternoon. If North Dakota can get a win or two against UMD, Wisconsin is looking to put some real distance on the rest of the league. Why is St. Cloud this bad (though they do have a shoot-out win vs. UMD)? There really isn't any excuse to still be winless at this point in the season.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers '10-'11

Almost the ideal weekend for the Badgers. Complete the sweep against the dismal Huskies and UMD/UND split so Wisconsin extends their conference lead over the Bulldogs with still two games in hand. Plus, it was nice to see Ruegsegger get some time in and do well.

Must have been (or will be) a white-knuckle bus ride back from St. Cloud going through the middle of this storm.

Congrats to a great first half of the season. Definitely have re-gained their national title contender status.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers '10-'11

First of all, this thread shouldn't go this long without some kind of comment even if the team is on semester break. Secondly, with all the US/Canada camps going on over the next week or so, how many players will be missing for the games up in St. Cloud this weekend?

Re: Wisconsin Badgers '10-'11

Wisco should have all the US players back, but the 3 Canadians will be gone until after Ohio State. I believe Mhurst will be missing three as well and Northeastern should be at full strength. OSU will be missing two if I am correct. UW would have a tough time playing 11 players short, so they must schedule accordingly

Re: Wisconsin Badgers '10-'11

Check on your numbers Granddaddy.

McKeough, Haverstock, Deluce, and Prevost missing for UW. Bram and Bendus missing for Mercyhurst.

Badgers will pickup the USA Badgers enroute to St. Cloud for the weekend. Without the 8 current USA Badgers and the U-22 Canadian Badgers I doubt UW would even be allowed to play with 9 skaters..

Re: Minnesota/Wisconsin photos from Saturday, November 6

Also should mention that Alex Rigsby may be out as well as she elected to miss the USA Holiday Camp with a minor injury (believe something with her hip?) that she was deciding prior to Christmas if she would have a minor procedure done over the holidays in order to be healthier for the second half run.

I forgot a forward WHKY, but you need to check your numbers too  . 23 skaters on the UW roster so they would have 11 skaters and 3 goalers. Still I would bet they schedule to aviod these events given the potential impact.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers '10-'11

I'm glad a simple question got this thread going again. So as I have read this, the US players won't miss any games, but the Canadians will miss both the St. Cloud games and conference games at Ohio State. I know Wisconsin isn't the only team impacted, but I hate when leagues games are potentially jeopardized by international games/camps. This doesn't happen in any other college sport that I know of.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers '10-'11

I forgot one skater (Natalie Berg..) too. 10 skaters, 2 goalies (assuming that Rigsby would be inactive)

Did you not eliminate Maria Evans who quit when the team added Berg to the Roster?

I was counting Kelly Nash, Derya Kelter, Carla Pentimone, Breann Frykas, Lauren Unser, Anne Dronen, Alev Kelter, Saige Pacholok, Laurel Miller, Nikki Kaasa, Becca Ruegsegger, and now Natalie Berg. Not that it's relevant or matters...

I wasn't aware of the changes, I just looked at the online roster. As you said probably irrelevant any way. Hope Rigsby is good to go in the 2nd half.
