Wisconsin Badgers '10-'11

Re: Wisconsin Badgers '10-'11

What an intense game last night. I've never been so hoarse from yelling/cheering in my life. It was hard to sing in Church this am with the sore throat. The early part of the 2nd period when UW had the dawgettes stuck in thier d zone for 2-3 minutes and crowd was going wild was the best experience I've ever had at a live sporting event. Amazing.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers '10-'11

As of this morning, I haven't found any TV/online options. However, I'm positive that it'll be available at least somewhere on-line. If memory serves, the '07/'09 title games were on CBS College Sports channel.

The game against UMD was ultimately a lot of fun, but the first period was kind of a grind and ended with a Bulldog goal. However, I thought Wisconsin fully controlled the second period and their early game-tying goal kind of took the pressure off of them. Third period was also pretty evenly played, but Duggan gets the big goal and Risby came up with some big saves and it was getting dicey at the end after UMD pulled Martin.

Even with a crowd at 4,000 (which easily outdrew the other three quarterfinal games combined), I thought there would be more at the game. Nice that the band was there and actually a decent student draw (considering it is spring break). But I was optimistic that the lower bowl would be essentially full and they'd have to open the second deck. I'm pretty sure that was the case against Harvard in '07.

Hopefully, they can keep the roll going into Erie and carry on the WCHA title supremacy. Not sure I'm going to bother posting this week on the official Wisconsin/BC thread with such a dumb title.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers '10-'11

Ok, I dug a bit deeper on the uwbadgers.com site and did see that the game against BC will be available through stream on NCAA.com and will have a local radio broadcast on WIBA 1310.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers '10-'11

Figured I'd post on this thread just to keep it going, instead of the "official" UW/BC thread. Less than 90 minutes out and definitely anxious to get it going. Frustrating that it's not on TV. Would have liked to go to a sports bar and watch it on the big screen along with all of the basketball. I know it's all about the money, but it's hard to believe that with all the channels available, nobody broadcasts it. Yet poker and bowling get on TV.....

Anyway, I think/hope that Wisconsin's offensive depth is the difference. Schaus may be great, but she's going to get tested all game. For what it's worth, I'll predict a 4-2 win for the Badgers.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers '10-'11

1, 2 We Want More! Badgers dominated the first period and BC needed a couple of nice saves/defensive plays from being even more. The video feed is OK, but has frozen twice (for me at least) and I missed the Ammerman goal. The play-by-play isn't great and would be worthless without the corresponding video.

BC needs to get the next goal to have a chance. Hope the Badgers can keep up the pressure.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers '10-'11

BC looked like a totally different team in the 2nd. Should never let a player go coast-to-coast like that for the goal. Badgers had nice pressure late in the period, but Schaus denied them several times during a late power play.

Guessing it's going to be a tight 3rd period. Just not sure 2 goals is going to hold up.

Go Badgers!

Re: Wisconsin Badgers '10-'11

Wow, that was one of the more entertaining (though nerve-wracking) games I've watched in a while. Great effort by Knight, Duggan and Decker on the game-winning goal. Schaus player her a-- off and not only kept them in the game, but in a position to possibly win. However, the relentless offensive pressure that UW puts on ultimately paid off.

The internet feed was basically frozen for the first 6-7 minutes of the third and I almost gave up and went for the radio. Mercifully, it came back for good at that point. Overall, I'm not real impressed...if the only way to watch it is on internet, then it should be a clean feed throughout.

I'll give BC credit, they played considerably better in the last two periods after looking completely out of their league in the first. Their second goal was a great individual play with a backhand flip from her knees over Rigsby who went for the poke-check. No doubt that I was getting more anxious as the game went late.

Bottom line is that the Badgers are heading to the Championship Game and raise their all-time NCAA semifinal record to 5-0. Hope Duggan can bring home the Patty Kaz tomorrow night.

Go Badgers!!!

We all seemed to experience different freezes and of differing duration. I had the live blog up for that game, and I think their commercials contributed to some of my problem. I'll skip that next time.

The feed to my computer never froze for more than a fraction of a second, but overall it was choppy compared to regular television. If TV is 60 frames per second this was more like 15 fps. And I have a pretty fast cable connection.

I suspect you're right. If there are a large variety of experiences among users then it is unlikely that the problem is at the source. It seems more likely to be an individual band width issue.

I had ZERO problems with the feed.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers '10-'11

I'm not sure why Wisconsin keeps going back to having Knight on the 2nd line to start, then switching her and Brooke A. when the going gets tough. Admittedly I know less about hockey than anyone making the decisions on the Wisco' bench, but it seems like some of these games would be put away quicker if they just went with their stronger combos from the start. Maybe the thinking is that it will be harder for opponents to match lines if they don't know what lines are coming. I just haven't seen much chemistry when Knight is with Ammerman and Packer.

Pretty much everyone in the press corps was up in arms, as disconnects with the wireless were frequent. When the connections were on they were overloaded and the photogs couldn't upload pics without going outside and using cell cards.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers '10-'11

Twice my feed froze, so I just closed the closed the window the game was on and re-entered. The sucky part was I missed UW's 2nd goal. The picture was choppy at first, then smooth for most of the game, then choppy at the end. I suspect that was due to the number of users at those times.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers '10-'11

Congratulations to Meghan Duggan for bringing home Wisconsin's third Patty Kaz award. The other two times, the Badgers won the NCAA title the next day (if memory serves). What a great weekend it's been so far for the team.

I had a lot of problems with choppiness when watching the feed in Firefox. Once I switched to IE there were no issues.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers '10-'11

One last gripe about lack of TV coverage and then onto the game. I know that there's a lot of basketball on taking up potential channels, but ESPN will be showing pool and poker this afternoon. Maybe I don't want to know the answer to this, but do those really pull better ratings than NCAA hockey?
Also, kind of frustrating that the local radio coverage is 92.1 instead of 1310 AM, which has a much stronger signal. 1310 is doing the Badger WNIT game. Ok, enough of that rant. Can't do anything about it anyway.

Anyway, hope the Badgers can get out to another good start today like they did against BC.

Unfortunately, yes. Certainly with poker. Even with the poker fad behind us, it still pulls higher ratings than many niche sports, especially niche college sports.

The big question for is why did CBS College Sports dump coverage of all their niche college championships. Last year they covered D3 men hockey, D3 men BB, D3 women BB, and D1 women hockey championship games. This year, nothing.
