Winter Weather 2017-18 where EVERYONE argues.

Re: Winter Weather 2017-18 where EVERYONE argues.

3 inches of snow forecast for Atlanta tomorrow. How Atlanta residents will respond tonight:

Dr. Mrs. has a reaction analogous to snow snobbery when the temperature goes over 110 and people freak out. She laughs and goes out in it to play tennis.

I'm warm-blooded. I stay in as much as possible once it hits 90.

I stay the f-ck out of snow, now, and I used to be miserable in the winter if there wasn't at least 2 feet standing and more coming.

OTOH, I used to love days > 100 in NY at the beach with a breeze, and now I've stretched that up to about 108 in the Southwest. At 115, though, I draw the line. I honestly think Dr. Mrs. would be OK with 130* as long as she had a big floppy hat and a tanker truck of water.

* And I guess we'll find out.

Re: Winter Weather 2017-18 where EVERYONE argues.

If I lived down there, I'd be XC skiing into town just to troll.

My aunt (RIP) used to live in Gainesville. A neighbor asked how to get ice off the windshield. Aunt said, "just pour boiling water on your windshield." The neighbor went back inside to boil some water, came out a bit later, and my aunt finally stopped that idiocy. Aunt wanted to see how far it would go. :D

That's amazing. I wonder if the windshield would have shattered.

It had a good chance of doing so, hence my aunt stopping the prank. Throwing hot water on an ice-covered glass surface is a BAD IDEA.

Big north wind today, so all the dirt dust and sand in Iraq that can escape is. Still better than driving in white snow :)

Dumb question. Are sand storms sudden or do you see them coming from a long way off and have time to react (by, say, getting the f-ck off the road)?

My only knowledge of them comes from action movies which of course I trust as sober scientific documents.

I love being in Arizona, going out to lunch, getting in the car after lunch, and not being sure which is the clock and which is the outside temp indicator. ;)

Re: Winter Weather 2017-18 where EVERYONE argues.

"Why are my thoughts so loud?" is brilliant. That is exactly how Ithaca feels in February. The inside of your head is like a horror movie until you get used to it.

Um, dude, if you can't live with the sound of your own thoughts in your own head ...

I’ve yet to see a blinding one. So far they have just been like haze, cutting visibility down. Being in the city here it’s not as though there is loose sand to be picked up locally. Mookie for example is right on the water so much of what gets here has dissipated but then off the open fields of Iraq
