Who will be the 7th member of the Big Ten Hockey Conference?

Re: Who will be the 7th member of the Big Ten Hockey Conference?

I'm guessing they will set up the league schedule around the TV broadcasts so they will always have a league game to televise, and they won't have to televise games against non conference teams.

I have heard it will only be conference games as well. In fact, the Gophers are continuing their contract with FSN for non-conference games from what I've heard.

i concur with this,.. mostly. Get ready for tuesday night or wednesday night hockey. But this is WHY they will air nc games. It will be easier for Miami to go to OSU for one game on wednesday with a return trip by OSU the following Saturday than for Minnesota and OSU to do that. Or to have WMU, FSU or even LSSU travel midweek to MSU or UM with a possible reciprocal visit on a later date.

I wonder if this was a minor sop tossed toward the Gophers. "We won't do non-conference games so you can still work out a TV deal for the other 14 games."

Is every Gopher game in the conference going to be on BTN though? If not, FSN only showing non-conference sucks compared to what the Gophers already have.

I don't think every Gopher conference game will be on BTN (I believe the BTN is only picking up 40 games total), so FSN will probably still get some conference games. Sounds like the BTN will get first choice of which games it wants though.

Okay that is what I heard as well. Just wondering if something had changed. I am a spoiled brat and I need my Gopher hockey on HDTV.

You don't want them on BTN! Bad production, and half the time the announcers aren't at the arena, but watching on a video monitor from Chicago.

Wow. I'm surprised to hear this.

How embarrassing is it when NBC actually does something better than the BigTen Network?

Listening to the NMU at Michigan game was comical. Lots of time passed discussing everything but the game. A few times, they called the wrong players name (because the TV angle was horrible).

Only positive was that they spent about five minutes discussing how NMU's jerseys were better looking than Michigan's. :D

I have to imagine the network will invest more into their broadcasts than at present once the conference is in full swing.

BTN had NMU on the screen as "UNM" and the announcers talked about the nice game Nate Taurance was having...except Taurance hasn't been active all year, hasn't played a game. They would have have known he wasn't in the game had they stopped by and picked up the line charts...oh...wait...you have to be IN THE BUILDING to pick up the line charts...bush league production!

FSN out there does a fantastic job, as does FOX Sports Detroit, but then again...these groups know a little about hockey!

Seventh member? It will be Big Boy! Solid food, solid image, solid hockey! A very Big 10 physique who will look great on the B10SportsNet! The camera wil just love BB. I mean, who could be mad at the plaid? Think about the cross-promotions. Concessions, midwestern corn/beef fed, kewpie dolls, plaid, plaid, plaid.

I was watching that game and even I was irrate at the ****-poor treatment that you received. I was considering muting the game and putting on the Michigan Hockey radio broadcasters. Problem is I'm sure that the delay would have screwed things up.

Yes the Fox Sports channels are very good at Hockey coverage, that could be because they air NHL teams too. If the BTN covered Hockey more than 2 or 3 times a year they might have a clue. But hey, BTN is the absolute best at covering Women's Volley-ball...

From the 10,000 ft view you would think Illinois would be the logical candidate. They are the only major state institution in one of the larger states (like OSU and PSU) and you'd think that a good chunk of their student base would have grown up following an Original 6 team in the Blackhawks. That arena their basketball team plays in has got to be due for replacement; maybe they could look into a multi-purpose facility and pull the trigger.
