Who will be the 2013 National Champion?

Re: Who will be the 2013 National Champion?

This one is tough. The thing is that all these teams got hot as they entered the tournament (besides QU). QU is an incredible team but they have had some close calls like the game between them and canisius, which btw was an incredible come back which shows how truly good a team is. I see Yale getting knocked out by umass. That's probably my most certain prediction. Other than that st.cloud is seeing Joey benik really get hot and really Leblanc wasn't a huge contribute in this tournament so far. If st.cloud stays hot and out of the penalty box against QU, I could see them claiming the title. I hope!! Best of luck to all teams participating though

Re: Who will be the 2013 National Champion?

I want UML to win but the last thing I would do at this point is to bet against Yale. I have a lot of respect for Yale who clearly will have had the toughest road to the national championship if they make it there.

Re: Who will be the 2013 National Champion?

Totally hypothetical, but say Yale beats Lowell and then Quinnipiac. Would they be the first team ever to beat three 1 seeds and a 2 seed?

Re: Who will be the 2013 National Champion?

I'll say Lowell, but who knows!?!?

Whatever team wins is fine with me--I like all four.

Should be a good FF.

Re: Who will be the 2013 National Champion?

You guys know Wisconsin started this season 1-7-2? I know everyone is counting them out after a similar start in the NCAA's, but I think they can still get it done!

Have to say Lowell. It's just so difficult to score against them and once you get behind it's over. Tough to adjust to, especially given that NONE of these teams have seen them this year.

:p well done :p

I believe in what we got and I know hockey can be hockey... It's a high parity sport... Lowell is playing like a machine right now... Anything can happen but I've never had this level of faith in a team before.

That being said, I haven't seen the other three at all.

Pieces of badger still remain on the Everett turnpike

And while I'm sure there are those who disagree with me, I think it's great for the sport.
No disagreement from me. As a fan of one of the "other" teams in HE, it's been tough year after year seeing the same representatives make the tournament and make some noise.

It's fun to see four teams get a chance to win their first ever tournament.

Obviously, I'm biased, but I'm hoping that Lowell will bring this one home. What a story for this program, almost being shut down twice in the last decade, a five-win season just two years ago, and now back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances, their first ever regular season title, first ever HE Tournament title, their first ever Frozen Four...

So true. The UMass brain trusts wanted to end the hockey program at UML, and just have the one hockey program at Amherst, which has been dismal for a long time. I am rooting for UML all the way, the team that UNH swept three times by three goals on each occasion during the regular season; UNH also beat St Cloud twice during the regular season. But, as noted, UML and St Cloud finished strong, although UML with its HE regular season and tournament championships finished strongest. The UML freshman goalie has played awesome.

I agree Monty...they have made an incredible turnaround these past 2 years...and I find the team very likable...they have a shutdown defense with an amazing freshman goalie (who as an MC fan, I hope he leaves REAL early LOL), and they have some talent up front who can score. From across the river (and growing up just down the road), I say GO UML!!! :)

Re: Who will be the 2013 National Champion?

IMO UML (not a shock) or possiblly Yale (bit more of a shock) are most likely.

No question who needs to win it...SCSU. We could use SCSU mens to compliment the Gopher womens national champions...and UMD trophy a couple of years back.

And Lowell hasn't seen Yale either, I have to predict a New Haven County final with Yale shocking the Q. Either way it is going to be a great three games.
