Who will be the 2013 National Champion?

If secondary market ticket prices are down, it's an indicator that fewer people will be in town, fewer butts in the seats. Thus it's bad news for the city that put money into bringing the tournament to town.

Only if that means they are unused and a market isn't being met. I think they'll do just fine. Also, who'd turn up the chance to have fun w us... Probably the most cheerful gregarious fanbase on the east coast

Re: Who will be the 2013 National Champion?

So one question, is Lowell going to be burned to the ground if they don't win this whole thing, a la UNH/Durham a few years back? Might not be a bad idea to have an escape route planned, or to get out of Dodge altogether if they're losing big early....

No, that sort of thing would happen in Amherst as evidenced by past actions there, not Lowell.

I'd go if it wasn't for classes.
Why can't Marty just cancel them for the team?

Re: Who will be the 2013 National Champion?

I'd say SCS beats Lowell, but I haven't picked many right this year (I had an all ND final, with North Dakota winning, but was eliminated before half the teams had even played their first game last weekend..............)

That's really only true if prices go to zero (and it's getting close on stubhub, the upper deck sides should be under $40 by the weekend). So long as the tickets are being sold and the seats are filled, it's all good. The city has nothing to gain from scalpers' premiums.

Re: Who will be the 2013 National Champion?

My heart is with the Huskies, but the way the WCHA dropped like flies in this tournament, I'm thinking the better teams are out east this year. Hope I'm wrong.

Re: Who will be the 2013 National Champion?

Who freaking knows, man! Every one of the remaining teams qualifies as a "they haven't done it before, so the fact that they've gotten this far shows that they've got It!" thing going on. And that'll be true after the semis as well. "I didn't know if Yale could actually make it past the first rounds, but now that they're all the way to the finals, they must have It!"

I'm going with St Cloud beats the Q 14-2, and Yale shocks Lowell 1-0 in the 14th overtime. After that I've got nothin'. :p

Re: Who will be the 2013 National Champion?

I'm sticking with my pick before the regional weekend.....Lowell takes it home.

Re: Who will be the 2013 National Champion?

I'm going with my pick since mid January... UMass -Lowell. Hellebuyck remains impenetrable and Derek nails a game winner from the slot.
Not for nothin' but we're thinking Yale lewinsky'd last weekend by beating Minn and NoDak is succession. Can they remain that hot after a twelve day lay-off? No.

Re: Who will be the 2013 National Champion?

The Frozen Four teams are good for college hockey.............a lot more interesting than the same old, same old BC, BU, Minny, ND, etc. I was kinda hoping that Mankato State would have made it in Hastings first season as HC.

Re: Who will be the 2013 National Champion?

I am an ECAC fan hoping that both ECAC teams make the finals. That being said, I saw Lowell play Union last year in the second round. If my memory serves me correctly they totally out-skated Union in the first period and went up 1-0. They were very tough and aggressive but Union was able to hold on and Union's experience showed and they capitalized on a few UML mistakes. Troy had a great game in goal or it would not have happened. I think an open net goal gave Union a 3-1 win. Last year UML played the same type of game that Union played last year - tenacious defense, lots of forechecking with opportunistic scoring based on opponents mistakes. This was an extremely young and talented UML team last year and I believe finished 9th with a 24-13-1 record. I remembered thinking that they were going to be really good with another years worth of experience. This program has been building up to this point for a while and as much as I am pulling for the ECAC, I would not bet against this still very young but still very talented UML squad.

They just ran out of energy last year, and there have been a few comments about that from players this year. They were too excited to be playing there (considering the 5-win season the year before). I'm hoping for different this time.

Oh, and adjusted one part of your statement. Not that Union wouldn't have won anyway. :o

which is the main reason we haven't really *****ed about that... it was fairly clear that barring some miracle we were done.

Re: Who will be the 2013 National Champion?

Here is what is an inaccurate tally (difficult to discern some people's partiality) of how people are leaning in this thread:

Lowell - 21

SCSU - 11

Yale - 2 or 3 (someone expressed two different teams)

QU - 2
