PBR is the hipster beer of choice around here. Coors Light/Coors has also made a bit of a surge amongst the "cool crowd." No clue why.

A Dogfish Head 120 Minute IPA would have been a good choice as it's delicious, American made (local even), and drinking one would have had the same result as drinking tequilla.

Coors just seemed to taste better back when you could only get it west of the Mississippi.

Recalling a case study I did for a strategic management class, I believe Coors didn't pasteurize their beer back when they were regional, and did not do so until they spent the 80s "going national". Pasteurizing beer is simply a much cheaper preservation method than paying to ship it in refrigerated trucks and cars all the time.
They were still brewing cheapo adjunct lager, but flash heating any brew to make it last longer destroys much of any character it may have. It's why pretty much all macro lagers taste the same, to one degree or another.
I was just talking with my dad about this on Saturday, and he remembers when it was a big deal for him and his college buddies to bring Coors Banquet back to MI after ski trips to Colorado. Apparently it was a significant upgrade from Old Mil at the time.

A BIG change from OM -- but are his memories of the ski trips as foggy as mine??
The Coors that came to Toronto with me even made a nice change from Blue, Canadian and Export!

Truth. First time I was in Denver (for work) I found that out really quickly. A couple drinks during an after-work meeting (hotel had the "Manager's Hour" which was free beer/rail drinks) and I was feeling it.

I thought the whole White House Beer Session was a stupid PR stunt. I was really hoping that a huge "Tastes great!" - "Less Filling!" argument would break out, fisti-cuffs would ensue and all three go tumbling in an archaic heap of punching & clawing all throughout the rose garden.

Well... maybe if Obama chose Miller Lite instead of Bud Lite.
Which would have been a huge improvement. And that's not meant as a compliment to Miller Lite. Bud Lite is just that flippin' awful of an excuse for beer.
