New Shins Album...

Ehhh...

Not very memorable after a couple of listens. Too bad as Wincing and Broken Bells were quite good.

Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros

Rock Art & Global

So much better than music has any right to be. What a loss he was... :(

Hey Gurt,

would you recommend 1 or 2 of the mescaleros LP's for me? I'm a huge fan of The Clash but haven't heard Joe's last band at all really.

ditto on The Shins. 1st album was great, 2nd was good, beyond that...meh

I like them all (of course) but I'd put Streetcore and Global a Go Go over the first album. Streetcore was released after Joe's death and some have dissed it because of this, but I think it's just as good as the other two albums.

They also have an album called Action Town Hall which is a show from their final tour (I believe) where Mick Jones joins them for the final 3 songs. I don't see it as available in iTunes or Amazon, so maybe it was a bootleg? REALLY like this as a live album. Can't remember where I got it.

If you like the Clash, I think you'll like this as it's different, but the same. It's like the Clash from a slightly different perspective.

Alexi Murdoch- Time Without Consequence. Friend burned it for me and I haven't stopped listening to it since.

Reading the Hunger Games - my teenager's been hounding me to read this for a few years. Gonna see it this weekend. Halfway through and it's quite engaging.

While I read, and enjoy a nice fire on a chilly afternoon, listening to Altan Urag - a Mongolian outfit that is quite hard to describe other than to say amazing. Perfect music for this read.

Mongolian classically trained artists playing a hybrid of funk, traditional, modern Mongolian music on classical instruments. Sickness!

Back to it!

SRV - Life by the Drop; Blue October - Into the Ocean; Kenny Chesney feat. Willie Nelson - Lucky Old Sun; Bruce Springsteen - Atlantic City; Pink Floyd - On the Turning Away; The Smashing Pumpkins - Tonight Tonight

Late night mixology.

The Shins: Port of Morrow

A little dissimilar to previous albums.

I've listened several times now and I think James Mercer has written and produced some very good songs.

Death Cab for Cutie: Codes and Keys

Not as good as Transatlanticism or Plans, but way better than Narrow Stairs.

Without any prior knowledge of Death Cab, I bought The Photo Album awhile back as a "hit or miss"--it missed with me.

Could you suggest what you think are Death Cab's best, which I could or should check out.

Thanks.

Transatlanticism is my favorite Death Cab album, followed by Plans. I haven't checked out their early work, such as Something About Airplanes or We Have the Facts and We're Voting Yes.

Oops, just got done...
