This guy is the European Champion. This is not a U18 competition or anything. He's the f-cking European Champion.

And here I felt accomplished for not falling over while putting on my pants this morning.

The upside down version of the OK hand gesture - hand hanging at your side, index finger and thumb forming a circle with the other three fingers extended downwards, has been used by the White is Right, White is Might movement for a couple years now.

There's a guy developing an adult video game named Summertime Saga whose Patreon account is earning $52,000.

Per month.

We are all in the wrong business.

As someone who has given thought to trying to start a YouTube page, I dunno if it's worth the effort. There was a small window of time where you could have gotten started several years ago and made some cash. But even then, you were working a full-time ++ job trying to keep the ship moving forward. It's not an easy living in most cases, especially if you are in a subject driven area (fishing, sports commentary, car maintenance, etc). And now it's to the point where you need to have professional level equipment and software to make the videos, so that is a significant up front investment from the start.

I know a few Twitch streamers. They're just doing it casually, not trying to make a buck or anything. They enjoy it, but it is a herculean task for them to set up and perform on a regular basis and it shows. (Specifically they stream pinball which is a MAJOR pain to do - you need three cameras minimum for playfield, backglass, and player(s), then you need a laptop that can handle all three video ins and upload the footage without crapping the bed, then you need to get the positioning and sound balances right, sometimes in a noisy-*** bar or arcade...) I'd love to try it someday, but I couldn't imagine doing it for a living.

Plus YouTube in particular these days is being a giant dick about monetization. Have the wrong company say boo and you lose your ad revenue in the blink of an eye.

It's a cool idea on paper, but not for me. I'd love to do it as a hobby if I'm in a financial position to just blindly dump money into a hobby. But as a job, no thanks.

I got some fringe experience working in production years ago and know what it takes to make stuff look good. I know my skill set is currently miles off target there. It's one thing to plan stuff out so it looks good, but getting that as an end result is a different ballgame. Gone are the days of using a single GoPro and iMovie...

Re: What The Fark 5: I Can't Believe This Happened!

There is a difference between a hobby and a profession. I was told years ago I could probably grind it out as a poker player. However, that would take the fun out of it. It would become a job, not a hobby. Nope, not for me.

Ma'am, this is a Wendy's.

Re: What The Fark 5: I Can't Believe This Happened!

You know what I haven’t had in a while? Big League Chew.

Do they even make that anymore? I know they still make candy cigarettes, but they have to call them "candy sticks" now, and can't have the pink on the end of the stick....

Re: What The Fark 5: I Can't Believe This Happened!

That largest candy store in Minnesota has all sorts of that non-child-friendly-or-whatever candy
