Re: What the Fark 3: The Strange and Unusual

I am not a big fan of dogs, not having grown up with them and finding they come in two flavors: either irritating or, well, scary. But. I am so on the dog's side here. Euthanize the owners.

When I saw the dogs name I knew it was a Pit, T FF

We are a strange species. Apparently "unboxing videos" are a whole genre. An example.

I've watched one once, when I was looking to purchase something and the manufacturer's product description wasn't too clear. Other than that, I don't understand why they're so popular.

I watch LEGO unboxing and set reviews all the time. I find it a great way to get to know what parts are in each set along with any special play featuresand get a very nice view of the finished set from all angles. It's helped me decide which sets to buy and more importantly which sets to avoid.

Someone masturbates to them. That's the true meaning of Rule 34, which is underappreciated.

I don't watch a lot of 'em, but I can definitely see the attraction. Part "me me me everyone look at this cool stuff I bought," part "here's what you should be expecting inside the box and how it all goes together," part product review based off first impressions. Especially useful with the "loot crates" which are becoming popular - you have a preview of what you could be getting. There's an ASMR thing going on for some people too (if you think we're weird, check out THAT trend sometime.)

As someone who rescued a pit, I wish more people would see it's not a dangerous breed when it has good owners. Any dog will go crazy if it is raised by horrible owners.

And honestly, two years ago I never thought I would be typing what I just did. I was as scared of pit bulls and "dangerous dogs" as the next guy.

I think this message is starting to get around. I've heard many people say it and I don't exactly travel in dog circles.

Abused animals become violent. This goes for people as well.

A friend of mine owed a female pit bull. That dog was as friendly as could be, and loved playing with the other dog that was also visiting the house. The problem is, however, even the most docile pit bull has been known to snap in an instance, likely because of how they were originally bred. Hopefully that trait fades with enough generations, but that's going to take a long, long time.

Oh come now. Francis is certainly better on the issue than your boy Benedict. I know you don't like him, but I'm not real sure you can pin 2000 years of pedophile priest predations on a guy just cuz you don't like his politics.

The reason for the sex crimes of the Catholic Church is the play pretend act that priests aren't sexual beings, and the reason for the play pretend act that priests aren't sexual beings is the misogyny and adolescent fascination / loathing of sexuality that has been with Mother Church since the Fathers.

Remember: I'm a fan of the Church. We've had the discussion many times and I'm on the side that if you're gonna go for ontological absolutism then go big or go home. Plus, you really can't argue with the art.

But. The Achilles heel of the Church has always been its hatred of women and sexuality. They've pretty much gotten over the Jews, finally. Next stop maybe work on realizing that the worm in the apple came from the monastic pervs of the Middle Ages. Certainly not Jesus, who was way ahead of the curve.
