What is your political stance?

Re: What is your political stance?

I am surprised I am that much to the left of center. I'm also a little surprised that I'm "only" a 3.81 in my foreign policy views.

I found the Left-Right part reasonably accurate. It's the North-South dimension that's out of whack. You have to be Attila the Hun to score much higher than the x-axis (as RC mentioned earlier - slight "libertarian" bias).

The culture meter seemed close enough. I'm pretty sure the foreign policy stuff is botched, if not outright broken. Whetever. It's not the worst one of these that I've ever seen. And I'm not going to spend the time to make my own...

Re: What is your political stance?

Under that definition many forms of birth control are also "murder". Yet, everyone ripped George Stephanopoulos for asking that very question to the Republican Field at the debate he moderated.

Personally, I don't buy that one bit. If having sex automatically meant the woman would end up pregnant, it might be worth discussing.

The abortion issue is basically dead if people don't have pre-marital sex. Seems like a simple, nondivisive, cost free solution to a huge hot button topic.

And yes, the truth is as Priceless stated. Why not believe? What do you lose in earthly terms by believing?

No surprise here - I am apparently a culturally conservative, authoritarian neo-con. :)

You don't buy what?

Certain contraceptives are murder if we use the definition of murder that you cited. That's just a fact. Your post above only talks about abstinence. That form of contraception would not be listed under the murder column.

Sure, you have a perfect solution to the problem. Unfortunately that form of birth control has never been foolproof in human history.

I am all for abstinence. In a perfect world it would work perfectly. It is indeed a beautiful thing to see the world simply but God did not create a simple world. It is messy and so are the predicaments people get in. I don't believe in the absolute for anything. What do you do with the woman who will die if the pregnancy continues? What do you do with the rape victim who would rather have abstained? What do you do with the 10 yr old who was raped and birthing would put her at medical risk? Unfortunately unplanned pregnancy happens even for the most careful. I have personally taken care of someone who achieved pregnancy after a tubal ligation with a partner who had a vasectomy. What are the odds of that? The pregnancy failed. If it had not, the woman was in serious danger d/t her medical condition. Granted I have seen this once in my career but it happens.

Exactly.

"The Gospels offer no support for us if we fantasize about a sunlit holiness that knows no problems."

Kill the child. It's his/her fault.

A monotheist rejects 99.9999% of all the gods humans have invented and sought solace in over the millenia.

So why not believe, indeed.

with respect, you're confusing your own viewpoint with a believer's. The monotheist rejects ALL man-invented gods in favor of the one true God. Not most of them. So from there, it's perfectly rational.

Fiscally Conservative - Socially moderate.

I am a christian but I am NOT a fundamentalist. I use common sense.

Re: What is your political stance?

For the exact same reason I do not choose to believe in Santa Claus or the Easter bunny - lack of proof/evidence.
What do you lose in earthly terms by believing?
I could pose that question of many beliefs that I view to be similarly irrational such as people's superstitions regarding mirrors, ladders, black cats, mentioning a pitcher has a no hitter in the sixth inning = jinxing him, etc. None of these things are grounded in reality.

Kill the child. It's his/her fault.

Kill the child. It's his/her fault.

In all three cases it's not the mother's fault either. But, you would punish the mother and quite possibly the child.
