What is your political stance?

Re: What is your political stance?

I haven't taken "the test." I will say:

I consider myself fiscally conservative, probably slightly to the left socially.
I am against abortion as a "birth control" option, am fine with it in cases of forced sex, or mother-in-danger sort of situations (her life, or the baby's).
I think you can say whatever the hell you want, but the government (looking at you NEA) should not necessarily fund potentially obscene displays of art (oral, physical, etc).
I like welfare in spirit (get people back on their feet), but I hate how it's carried out/abused. No, McDonald's ISN'T beneath you. Get over yourself.

There are many other minute points, but you get the idea. That's where I stand.

Not necessarily contradicting you, but who gets to decide what's obscene. I would imagine there's art that might be obscene to you that isn't to me, and perhaps vice versa.

There lies the debate. Those who know me, there is no line. I follow a morbid/outlandish/no tact style of humor. So in that aspect, keep the govt out of it, so there's no "legal" ruling of what's obscene.

Specific example(s): I've made 9-11 jokes. But I don't think the gov't should fund a statue of Jesus Christ, that is made of human excrement. And I'm spiritual, I don't follow one religion.

with respect, you're confusing your own viewpoint with a believer's. The monotheist rejects ALL man-invented gods in favor of the one true God. Not most of them. So from there, it's perfectly rational.

Gimme that old time religion
Gimme that old time religion
Gimme that old time religion
It's good enough for me

Shall I worship Zarathustra
just the way we use ta?
Be a Zarathustra Booster
What a thing to be!

(Chorus)

Or maybe Aphrodite
She’s beautiful but flighty
and doesn’t wear a nighty,
now there’s a sight to see.

(Chorus)

Or perhaps I’ll choose Apollo
a decent god to follow
I’d grovel and I’d wallow
Brought low on bended knee.

(Chorus)

Elohim or Yahweh?
Allah or the highway?
I think I’ll just go my way.
That’s good enough for me.

(Chorus)

We will pray with those old Druids
They drink fermented fluids
Waltzing naked through the wuids
And it's good enough for me

Perhaps they could just supply the excrement, of which they apparently have an overwhelming supply, eh?

Re: What is your political stance?

You are a right moderate social libertarian.
Right: 5.52, Libertarian: 1.77

Odd-I always considered myself an orthodox pervert;)

Oh yes indeed, perfectly rational. And it's good to see Pascals wager alive and well. Always fun to meet someone who thinks that it's possible to trick an all knowing super being with false supplication .

That's only a small part of why Pascals' Wager is ridiculous.

BTW, I read geezer's statement as a commentary on what a certain type of "naive believer" would argue, not his personal conviction, just as my comment about polytheism was.

That's exactly how I intended it, meaning I have no plans to put my own faith in Jesus up for debate (rational, commonsense, scientific, or otherwise) on an argumentative internet forum considering that no good could possibly come of such an exercise... even though my own faith is my lifeblood.

Re: What is your political stance?

I am all for abstinence. In a perfect world it would work perfectly. It is indeed a beautiful thing to see the world simply but God did not create a simple world. It is messy and so are the predicaments people get in. I don't believe in the absolute for anything. What do you do with the woman who will die if the pregnancy continues? What do you do with the rape victim who would rather have abstained? What do you do with the 10 yr old who was raped and birthing would put her at medical risk? Unfortunately unplanned pregnancy happens even for the most careful. I have personally taken care of someone who achieved pregnancy after a tubal ligation with a partner who had a vasectomy. What are the odds of that? The pregnancy failed. If it had not, the woman was in serious danger d/t her medical condition. Granted I have seen this once in my career but it happens.

That's why I used the word "basically" in my original post. Abstinence stops 90 something percent of abortions. What to do with the other percent left over? Leave it in God's hands.

Re: What is your political stance?

You don't buy what?

Certain contraceptives are murder if we use the definition of murder that you cited. That's just a fact. Your post above only talks about abstinence. That form of contraception would not be listed under the murder column.

Sure, you have a perfect solution to the problem. Unfortunately that form of birth control has never been foolproof in human history.

I don't buy the fact that birth control = murder. Human life doen't begin until conception.

Depends. According to your religion is conception when fertilization occurs or implantation? There are many forms of birth control that work after fertilization but before implantation. Most consider fertilization when conception occurs. Thus, many forms of birth control are murder by your definition.

So...Rubbers=good and Coat Hangers=bad ????? What if you claim that the baby had an itch and you were just trying to scratch its back with a coat hanger? Then is it a horrible accident instead of murder?

(for the record, kill babies, don't kill babies, don't allow others to kill babies...I really don't care, I'm bored with the whole abortion issue and really don't give 2 ****s one way or the other. Which, I'm sure, puts me in the minority)

The heck with it -- abstinence is murder.

This could be a great pick-up line if used properly.

edit: Oh, my bad. I shouldn't try to get in a girl's pants, because I shouldn't **** someone before I'm married, because my life is supposed to suck. Sorry about that, godly ones. :p
